    The exterior design of the subway[MTR] stations look almost exactly like the ones we have here in HK, the speaker announcement speech inside the stations are the SAME. The soundtrack uses a mix of chinese music instruments. The districts don't look much like HK but hell it's sci-fi so they might as well go crazy with those designs, it's not a bad thing.
    They really did put some effort into making it "feel" like Hong Kong.

    I was one of the Kickstarter backers on this one, and I regret nothing. These are a kind of niche thing that isn't going to appeal to everyone, and it's obvious that certain compromises have been made due it's limited budget, but the Shadowrun games are still fantastic and frankly offer a more engaging and interesting experience than many of the far more expensive "AAA" titles.

      I was gm and played both games back when they were released and while Shadowrun seemed to have great new world, grittier Cyberpunk with its style and overall world walked over it. Style over matter, easy.

    This review tipped me to buy the game. For the price I paid of $29.99, the dollar to fun ratio is well worth it. I agree with Karak that there are a lot of things that could be improved like adding voice over and maybe more variation in the soundtrack since it is such a long game. But overall, I find myself totally immersed in the world and each character had things to say that I actually found interesting. The turn based combat is a blast and the world and atmosphere gripped me in a way I haven't been by any game for a while. I agree with Karak, this is worth a buy if you like turn based action with a rich story.

    I was VERY late to SR:HK because I bought and played Shadowrun Returns. Talk about dissapointing! I bought it in 2013. It looked and played like a game from 2003..but I thought "Oh well. It'll probably have dozens of hours of gameplay, great replay-ability, complex moral choices, lots of character equipment and team building options". What a joke. My $20 got me what I would have expected to pay $2.99 for on the Google Play store.
    Hong Kong is MUCH more to what I expected in a modern Shadowrun reboot.

  • @Ariranhaa
    @Ariranhaa 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This "static scenario" is what separates Shadowrun from the top RPGs. This and the linearity of the game. The visuals are pretty, the writing is very nice, but it lacks this "open-worldness" that make some RPG games enter the hall of fame. If we consider the price is half of Pillars' and Divinity's, this lack is understandable, but I'd rather pay double the price for double the interaction with the game world and the freedom to explore it.
    I think Shadowrun is more of an isometric tactical story-telling game than an actual isometric RPG (considering the paragon of the isometric RPG is BG, IWD, Fallout and the likes of them).

    • @ACGreviews
      @ACGreviews  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matheus Moreira ya

    • @Icipher353
      @Icipher353 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Matheus Moreira Open worlds are completely overrated when it comes to story driven RPGs. A sandbox is alright for Skyrim, where the story is less important than the exploration, but you only have to look at Dragon Age: Inquisition to see how the open world diluted Bioware's usually strong narrative design. I'd much prefer a linear design with a strong story, than an open world with a weak story.

    • @OldyAlbert
      @OldyAlbert 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Matheus Moreira But should every game be the same? Yeah it's more basemission system, just like one of my favorite games - first Deus Ex. And Shadowrun still has different choices and endings. It's just more focused. Yeah it would be cool to see real big shadowrun game, but only if it can sustain same level of detail as Dragonfall and this one does.
      Dragonfall: DC and Grimmrock 2 was my favorite games of 2014.

    • @Ariranhaa
      @Ariranhaa 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ole Gerko Yeah, it has to do with personal opinions and all. I'm much more into The Elder Scrolls and Fallout than into DA:I, for example. But we have DA:O with good story and good exploration, the same goes with Baldur's Gate. I think the developers can mix both aspects in a good way when they want to and have the time lapse to do so.

    • @Ariranhaa
      @Ariranhaa 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ole Gerko They shouldn't be the same, of course, but there are certain aspects that could be implemented in some games to make them better. In my opinion, open world in a RPG game is one of those aspects, as it is scenario interaction, like grabbing stuff, going into buildings that doesn't have to do with the missions and things like that. The more freedom you have, the more you can role-play your character they way you want it to be.

    as someone who isn't really a gamer [last console i owned was X-box and didn't really use a lot]. Only games I have played since ME3 are Dragon Age: inquisition and these HBS shadowrun games. I still enjoy this more than DAI, but I do have the love of nostalgia having an affect, whether subconscious or conscious. They finally got real close to near perfect for the budget they have, but what is even greater are the UGC runs and whole games that other people make, some with plots and writing almost as good. It makes it feel a shit ton like the tabletop game I played years and years ago. I would say this reviewer points out exactly what the negatives are, i was just curious, as i rarely delve into the gaming community, what they thought about this enjoying hodge podge. Sadly, new players have to buy the original Returns (featuring Dead Man's Switch story/run) to get this and Dragon fall. HOnestly, i would say skip Dead Man's switch all together and even the UGC, the mechanics that hurt the enjoyment factor were fixed between them

    my three biggest pet peeves with shadowrun since shadowrun returns is the boring animations,overly static environments, and the fact that i can't hoard loot ..i understand that the Devs have to work within their means/budget so i don't blame them other than that i have definitely seen improvements with regards to story and characterization but if they could just give us smoother animations with pop/character or environments with more moving parts like npc's that walk around without it having to be an instances or a car that goes up and down the road a few times or destructible cover/clutter or just more npc's moving around simulating a living commotion then all i would want is a loot system were by enemies drop ammo,clothing,weapons,programs,because honestly buying from a vendor all the time becomes a little boring.

  • @talon6890
    @talon6890 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i heard good things about this game because i was looking for similar tactical games like baldurs gate and dragon age origins, but what i found was a lifeless, linear, repetitive, overly basic game. the cyberpunk world does LOOK really cool, but it's not a good game.

    Great game if you want the old school experience. But for me it came across as nothing more than the low budget game that it is. I'll either read a book, or play a game; not interested in a (compromised) combination of the two. Really hope there's a future Shadowrun, with a budget to bring it into the 21st century. For what it is, this game was 6.5/10 for me.

    Problem with this game series is that they are very poor in content. Compare it to OLD fallout 2. Which is in same genre yet much muuuuch bigger. This isnt even 1/3 of fallout 2. Which makes me sad since fallout 2 was soo long ago.
    This is 3rd game of the series ..which is another pathetic overpriced DLC.

  • @peterfox6159
    @peterfox6159 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hong Kong is far from being as good as Dragonfall ... and Dragonfall had a truckload of problems.
    The first game was a bit to simple, the second one was better in almost every way and "Hong Kong" is, sadly, somewhat of a "tragic figure" ...
    The third title, "Hong Kong", is more boring than the first game, "The dead man switch", and almost everys aspect of it has tons of proboblems - more so than "Dragonfall"! But anyony who compares the three by playing through them can see that.
    Which raises the question: "Why, HBS ... Why ???"
    I really hope that some day HBS will some day learn to do it better. But my gut tells me, that they pushed this title ouit the door before it was ready! And I take no argument on that ... DEAR HBS ...
