He recently posted a map on Facebook of his perception of safety by state - but also mentioned that some unsafe states have pockets that are very safe. And some safe states have pockets that are very unsafe.

7 years ago I drove north to the south west to east of Mexico and I expected cows protest and many other things I also stopped driving almost every day by 3 or 4 pm, had a fantastic time on a few occasions I had to use good judgments and went with my gut, I had the time of my life.

in addition to night bus safety, I would not take overnight buses, especially mountainous southern Mexico including Oaxaca, there were quite a couple of bus crashes mostly overnight, I guess drivers get more fatigue during overnight driving, you can easily search out news like: Mexico Bus Crash: 25 Killed In Oaxaca, State Officials Say

This is true - night buses are more dangerous everywhere because of driver fatigue. And there are more road hazards like cows!

IMO the map is created to scare people from certain areas. Driven all over the state of Guerrero for years. Never a problem. Stay on the main roads and don't drive at night. The reason to not drive night revolves around large animals in the road, worn out vehicles without working lights on the road and hundreds of topes. Other than enjoy the beautiful drives and friendly people.
Luis addressed this in the post where I found the map, and also in comments in the video. He compared it to the US elections maps. States may be blue, but 90% of the land area is actually red. Same with this map. 90% of the land of the "scary states" is actually very safe. But that last 10% is really dangerous.
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico so does Mexico also have the concept of counties? what is it called of a smaller level area under state? has anyone ever made a Mexico safety map into details by each county of each state?

Dengue Fever seems really bad right now in Mexico. A friend who lives in Morelia, MX got it in the hospital and is still recovering from it weeks later. Have you mentioned dengue fever in any of your videos before?
I mentioned it in one video from Ajijic, but I’ve never focused on it. Mosquitos aren’t super common in the area where I live, and I’ve not met anyone who has gotten it. But that a great idea for a video!
Absolutely true about getting a hotel early. We drove from Nogales to Lake Chapala for our big move in May 2022. The First thing that happened is our water pump broke at the first toll entering the country. With the help of some wonderful road workers, we made our way to an AutoZone and my husband changed it at a Pemex parking area. Took 2 hours long and we would not make it to Guaymas before dark. We couldn't find a pet-friendly hotel in Nogales, and with my family's help in the States who booked us a pet-friendly place in Hermosillo. We made it just after dusk. Now we cross and stay in Hermosillo, and then wake up early and make it to Mazatan and stay the night. In January 2023 we came down again from Tacoma area and changed our plans to cross as Nogales and drove to Eagle Pass due to Cartel activity in Sinaloa. Be ready for the unexpected.
