The data and the algorithms are separate. What generates the buzz is the algorithms, which is completely transparent unlike ChatGPT (it is open source, OpenAI is not except in name) you can train with different data. You just show your ignorance of how these things work.

It is a win for DeepSeek, even if the cost savings may not be as great as they said. It definitely shakes up the big boys. The competitors should take it seriously, revisit the drawing board, and meet the challenges head-on. And those sitting on the side-lines should not hide their heads in the sand.

How is it "stealing"? You have no evidence and reach your conclusion because it is from China as if Chinese people are genetically incapable of innovation, so if they create something nice it is an axiom that they must have "stolen" it.
Well it is open source, why not get ChatGPT to also release its source codes then the experts can compare and decide whether they "stole" it? BTW OpenAI is being sued left and right for stealing copyright materials and confidential info to train its models so that is really rich.

I find you refreshing among HK's KOLs because I quite agree with your take on Trump and your commitment to universal values. But it seems that you still have some blinders on.
While I share your hatred of the CCP and I am aware of the scams and counterfeits that come out from China I wouldn't assume guilt just because "it is Chinese" based on no evidence, or just accusations from actors that obviously have a vested interests (the big techs) It would be very unfair to the people who honestly put a lot of work and efforts into create something nice and then be dismissed and vilified as thieves just because of their country of origin. How is it different from Trump's approach of accusing all minorities who rise through the ranks in the government as "DEI" hires?
All reviews of DS from the academic and technical communities have been positive and the source codes are out there for all to see. If OpenAI thinks it is stealing then why not settle the matter by releasing the source codes of ChatGPT so experts can compare line by line and see whether the accusation has merit?
