The advent of televised wrestling and maybe even the breaking of kayfabe has moved wrestling from a fake combat sport to a real fictional product, storylines and all, and that is probably the best thing to have come out of the mid-1990's in wrestling. I actually liked Yokozuna’s title reign a lot. Rarely did they ever make a heel appear so dominant, and for a guy his size he could wrestle pretty well.
I hated it. He was just kind of boring and I wouldn’t of minded if it was a semi short reign but it dragged on for so long and even as a kid I started to fall out of love with the product.

At Royal Rumble retained his title against Undertaker after about 6-8 other heels teamed up to bail Yokozuna out. Retained the title against Lex Luger at WrestleMania thanks to Mr. Perfect disqualifying Lex Luger when he had Yokozuna Beat. Lost to Bret Hart later that night. Yokozuna was the most pathetic monster heel WWE has ever booked.
Andre the Giant was an attraction on his own. He didn't need a big, glittery belt around his waste to let everyone know he was the man. You just needed to look at him to see that. RIP Andre! You were a legend!
Bret Hart was No1 for me. As a kid he was my favourite wrestler face or heel, and when he turned heel I actually understood why. His matches were exceptional his story telling got me watching every week and if it wasn't for Bret Hart, I wouldn't have believed in the stone cold gimmick as much. I'm not slating stone cold he'd be my No2 pick. Bret had a way of making other people look fantastic.
"because he was REALLY REALLY REEEALY good at wrestling" I got goosebumps when I first heard it and I rewinded it again and again and again. Bret Hart was a second of none ❤️
I honestly think JBLs title reign wasn’t that bad, he feels like the last genuinely hated heel WWE champion besides Jinder maybe but Jinders reign was just plain terrible
genuinely thrilled to see bret so high on this list. the fact that he's second to only bruno sammartino, a legend who really can't be compared to anyway, is perfectly alright with me
The excellence of execution was my favorite all along. Nobody worked as hard and faithfully as Bret Hart, nobody was willing and able to carry underperforming oponents as well, and nobody suffered personal losses that painful as he did. This man made me believe in wrestling as a sport, not just a show.
@@lol-fq8lp Money doesn't tell about how much effort and good will was put in. Money doesn't tell about how good a man somebody is. With the right marketing, you can sell rubbish to people and earn a lot of money. Does that make the rubbish good?
@@lol-fq8lp To be fair the business was down all across the board for a long time as wrestling as a whole was more or less shunned following the steroid scandal. Bret was given the task to carry the company during one of it's darkest moments and I would argue that he did pretty good. Certainly he did way better than Diesel who was champion for a year during that time and only drew in scraps. It's the reason Vince pivoted back to Bret.
Thanks for putting Pedro Morales on the #8 spot. Not only was his reign a good one but the list of men he defended against brought the prestige and brought moments at that time of professional wrestling. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Cultaholic.
Pedro was a good champion but he's bit overrated in that spot. He started off white hot and his first year was great, but fizzled out after his second year causing McMahon to scramble. He rejoined the NWA and maneuvered the belt back to Bruno who had already spent the better portion of the previous decade champion.
Bret hitman hart is one of my favorite of all time and I'm glad you acknowledged how great that guy was! The excellence of execution, the best there is, the best there was, and the best there EVER WILL BE!
@@lol-fq8lp Am I hunting down every one of the comments, yes I am. Just to once again remind you that context of what was going on in the company matters. Cause it seems to me that the loss of business has more to do with the steroid scandal in 94 than it did with Bret being champion.
@@night6724 Then why do millions of people all around the world still love him today? His personality is very dry I’ll grant you, which isn’t for everyone. But he managed to connect with enough people to inspire a whole new generation of wrestlers. Seriously just look to see how many modern wrestlers site Bret as one of their main inspirations to get in the business, including some of the biggest names today like Roman Reigns.
They probably wanted to give him a technical run because he was such a icon but knew he wasn't in the physical condition to wrestle properly week after week. 4:50
It should be okay if its a Cena only exclusive belt because it looks great if he's wearing it. It looks corny when another superstar wears it like imagine Triple H or Undertaker wearing that spinner belt? it will look awful.
I don’t get how Kofi is lower than Jeff Hardy, someone who never successfully defended the title. Kofi’s win was bigger, and his reign was better, so why is he lower?
The rock proves it’s quality over quantity. His feud with triple H was amazing and the fact he didn’t win much because he was cheated out of most matches made it so sweet when he won.
Adam....you and your team are workhorses! The process of this and the us title one you did recently is sooo impressive!! Thank you for always entertaining me and all of us Cultaholic faithful! Happy holidays to all the folks from Cultaholic!!
Thank you so much for putting Bret Hart in the upper echelon. No complaints he's second to Bruno Sammartino. Indeed, Hart is one of the most liked men backstage, seeing himself as "one of the boys" even during his title reigns. He's a pure wrestler making his opponents look good (not just simply selling), win or lose. He's not into backstage politicking (well, other than refusing to lose the title to Michaels leading to Screwjob, but not totally his fault and that's a story for another day). The best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be.
Brett Hart followed every step of wrestling to the top and did that spectacularly. 👏 His matches and character were golden and his wrestling ability is unbelievably good 👍 Hitman is simply the best 👌❤

I wasn't into wrestling growing up but when I was a kid The Attitude era was at it's peak so I had a lot of friends that enjoyed watching WWE/ WWF WCW all that so when I would hang out with them we played smackdown and would watch old tapes so I kinda started to enjoy it but the one thing I love about wrestling is that they respect their OGs it's cool thing for a father to see his favorite wrestler doing a tag team match with his son's favorite wrestler. It also teaches the younger generation about the history of wrestling I was born in 1994 I'll be 28 next month in April glad I was able to catch wrestling at it's peak
Bret and Stone Cold should be number one and 2, the greatest wrestler of all time and the guy he helped make a star. If not for The Hitman, Austin would probably have never been signed by WWE in 1996, let alone become the biggest draw in wrestling history. Steve had great talent, but for a time it seemed only Bret could see it.
Great list! I love how you guys gave Lesnar that recognition as a WWE Champion. That man can draw and is a big deal. Can’t wait till he makes an in ring return.
The fact that Eddie almost died in the JBL match was just as terrifying to think about as it is a testimony to how far Eddie would go to entertain the fans.
I still can't get enough of the Randy Orton songs we hear around 49:28-49:59, for example. Also, where can you find the actual instrumental song on TH-cam that's being used?...
Brett Hart is the best Pro Wrestler of all time as far as in ring work goes. Hes not the best on the mic for sure, Stone Cold and the Rock have him beat easily. Honestly even Savage or Hogan as well. But Brett Hart made the belt really feel like gold with just how much work he put into it. And how much work he put into his opponents. We wouldn't even HAVE Stone Cold if it werent for Brett.
mic skills really werent something the old timers had to worry about back in the day as they sold their story in the ring. I cant recall when they started to transition into allowing wrestlers to have more to say other than the usual promo of "im going to beat you this sunday at xxx arena" . that was something that the attitude era really focused on and perfected.
@@wantutosigh1117 oh yeah, Roddy was great but like I said, the mic skills weren't something that was pushed in the early WWE, if so, then Hulk never would have been a thing as he was horrible giving promos when compared to say Roddy. It was all about looking like a giant and everything else was secoundary. Would have to say as the WWE shifted away from the Hulk era is when they began to focus more on mic skills and the other stuff other than being a giant in the ring. Cheers bud but yeah, Roddy was awesome.
@@The_Zilli are you serious? Hogan was popular BECAUSE of his promos. Sure they’re corny but it drew massively. And Hart wrestled in the 1990s not the 1950s
@@night6724 Hulk never had the mic skills compared to Rody or even other wrestlers of his era. Hulk had the looks and the size which was what Vince craved back in the early 70s/80s. Or did you forget all about the "glass ceiling" in which smaller wrestlers had to try to get through. Im not saying Hulk wasnt influential to the business, far from it, but Hulk wasn't known for his mic skilsl but rather his physique and gimmick of saying your prayers and taking your vitamins and whatcha going to do when a million hulkamaniacs run wild on you. But in terms of being a natural on the mic, Rowdy Piper and others exceeded him in that area. Gimmick, Promos and Mic skills are three different things in my books. Gimmick is either (or both) company or talent coming up with an idea. Promos is company, talent, marketing team, etc. Granted, Promos back then weren't as scripted but being able to ham it up in front of the camera behind the scenes and doing it live is a bit different. And Mic is when you're on your own in a live environment having to react on the fly where being witty and quick on your feet is king. A good example of this would be Owen Hart's infamous leg kick comment where someone lacks the wits to do real time promos in the heat of the moment at that point in their career. Again, just to repeat, this doesnt mean that Hulk isnt da man, he had a great gimmick, the hulk up in the ring, the good guy attitude, the look, the size, etc etc. He just wasnt the best with the mic, no shame there. Heck, Im a Bret Homer and I know he wasnt the greatest on the mic as well.
Jericho really got shafted. Vince's comment about how "bad the state of the business must have been if we're putting the title on Jericho" is a horrible take from one of the kings of bad decisions.
They should put Hogan in Triple H’s spot and move Hunter to 7. Hogan was definitely a better champion the Hunter. But in my opinion Hogan is and always will be the Greatest champion of all time

Another great video another great list. I do have to mention one thing though. I am and always have been a pretty big Triple H fan. Aside from Ric Flair I don’t know that there’s ever been a better heel. Having said that I’m not about to pretend like the many criticisms against him burying multiple wrestlers aren’t valid, however you mention Jericho at Wrestlemania 18. That match should not have gone after Hogan vs The Rock, but as far as the outcome goes, Triple H was ridiculously over after returning from his quad injury and winning the Royal Rumble that year
I'm not going to lie but for all the reasons you put JBL down as a bad champion in the ranks is the EXACT reason why he was such a good heel champ. I grew up watching the JBL heel champ era, and I HATED JBL. God I hated JBL with a passion. But that's exactly what his character was designed to do. Looking back at it as an adult. It worked, it kept you engaged with the product because you hated him that damn much. Can't hate a gimmick for doing what it said on the tin.
I disagree with JBL...not that he should be placed super high or anything, but JBL had one of the most surprising reigns in history. It went from "you can't be serious, Bradshaw!?" to legitimately being entertained week after week, especially during the Cabinet phase.
For me #1 Bret Hart #2 Brock Lesnar #3 The Rock #4 Steve Austin #5 Randy Orrin I don’t know why Reigns is in the mid-ranking spectrum but I can him in the #10
Why Bret hart? He was champ at WWE’s lowest point and his entire character was being Canadian Reigns’ WWE title reigns weren’t that great (except his recent with the unified belts). It is his UNIVERSAL reign that is great
Wait so if Ric Flair has won the wwe title 2 times, the Nwa world title 9 times and the wcw title 8 times wouldn’t that make him a 19 time world champion? Not a 16 time champion?
There a video somewhere on TH-cam explaining all Ric,s title reigns,Because he lost it and won it back on a few different world tours,I think Inoki won it,Tatsumi Fujinami,And Carlos Colon were a few of the guys that beat him,Plus I don't think they count the reign he beat Barry Windam for the Big Gold belt and lost it to Rick Rude but that was the international world title then but still should have counted,I believe the real number was like 23 or 24 runs but they usually count the WWF run,s,It was the last two or three that probably didn't matter much because everyone was passing the title around in wcw and his last couple reigns were like A day,A week, then he was stripped again then only to get it back,to then lose it again to Jeff Jarrett after not just dropping it to him the first time instead of "Handing it over for whatever fake reason,WCW really did alot of shit that made no sense
I really hope and pray that some of the talent who held the belt at least once on here who are still active get at least one more run before their retirement. Kofi and Jeff being 2 of them
I think what makes Bruno Sammartino so great is that when he felt like he couldn't represent the belt properly he gracefully stepped down from the picture and left the title scene before anyone got sick of him *cough*Hogan*cough*Cena*cough*HHH*
I see the mistake saying Cena has 14 reigns wasn't fixed in this version of the list. Cena is a 13 time WWE Champion, 3 of his 16 world title reigns were with the World Heavyweight Title.

Rest in Peace to the Phantom Champion, Antonio Inoki, who passed away in October 2022.
Rip Antonio, did you know Hulk Hogan was technically the first IWGP champion? He is also known as a phantom champion
Really? I had no idea he passed away.

I love the belt, but it was around for way too long. Like why did it continue after Cena

@@The_Zilli I mean, Roddy Piper talked some wild smack.
Yes thanks I have been anxiously waiting for this 🤣🤣🤣

Reigns’ WWE title reigns weren’t that great (except his recent with the unified belts). It is his UNIVERSAL reign that is great
Wait so if Ric Flair has won the wwe title 2 times, the Nwa world title 9 times and the wcw title 8 times wouldn’t that make him a 19 time world champion? Not a 16 time champion?
Some of his WCW runs aren't counted by some people
There a video somewhere on TH-cam explaining all Ric,s title reigns,Because he lost it and won it back on a few different world tours,I think Inoki won it,Tatsumi Fujinami,And Carlos Colon were a few of the guys that beat him,Plus I don't think they count the reign he beat Barry Windam for the Big Gold belt and lost it to Rick Rude but that was the international world title then but still should have counted,I believe the real number was like 23 or 24 runs but they usually count the WWF run,s,It was the last two or three that probably didn't matter much because everyone was passing the title around in wcw and his last couple reigns were like A day,A week, then he was stripped again then only to get it back,to then lose it again to Jeff Jarrett after not just dropping it to him the first time instead of "Handing it over for whatever fake reason,WCW really did alot of shit that made no sense
Shawn Stasiak running into Angle’s milk truck!!! That’s literally all I remember him for and that still pic w/ that face was priceless!!
