Mr French, I swear I get mesmerized listening to you narrating these stories. I'll get so into your voice and telling that I find myself completely still, then suddenly I'll shudder accompanied by chill bumps or as some call it goose flesh. Not so much out of fear. I can't explain it. All I know is when I was a child, 6 years old and onward until she passed away. My Choctaw Indian Aunt Lizzie from Caddo Oklahoma would tuck me up beside her, patting my legs and start telling me stories. I would get lost in her stories and shudder from time to time. Sometimes it seems I would be so focused through mesmerization, looking at one spot on a wall for instance that I would develop tunnel vision ! In my life I've never heard a voice with such great inflection and perfect cadence and so into relaying a story wholeheartedly to its listeners until I found you on TH-cam. Aunt Lizzie and Mr Edward French. Wow !

The fact that cosmic rays really can and do cause genetic mutations is fascinating, no wonder someone wrote a Sci-fi story about it! Thanks for the upload.

Excellent narration! I absolutely love these weird stories, your voice does them a great justice.

This one is fun! It has a severe tone but also some silliness.

Here on the channel we love a little fun and silliness.... occasionally. I think that's happening right now as the Fu Manchu epic comes to a close.

This story reminds me somewhat of "The Outer Limits" episode, "The Sixth Finger" (starring David McCallum). That tune by Max Frost and The Troopers was a terrific way to conclude this video. Thanks!

You're rapidly becoming my favourite storyteller. Unlike many narrators you make each reading a complete, compelling performance. Your choice of tale is superb. I'd love to hear you read Theodore Sturgeon's IT.

Thanks, Chris. Well, if you're going to take time to record a book, there's not much point in merely reading the words. I have a lot of fun putting a performance spin on these things, hopefully not at the expense of the author's narrative intent. I will check out Sturgeon's IT.

Elements of the Outer Limits original series episode “The Sixth Finger”, one of the very best! What genius Hamilton had to write this story in 1931, extraordinary foresight and imagination 😊👏👏👏👏👏👏😄👏 Beautifully read too! 👍👍

Yes, The Sixth Finger was obviously what the writers call "a haircut" of this story. E.E.F.

excellent! is this the story The Outer Limits'The Sixth Finger' episode is based on?

Hi Paul-I would be surprised if 6th Finger writer Ellis St. Joseph had never read The Man Who Evolved. However, The Outer Limits episode is original enough not to be considered a "haircut" of Hamilton's story. St. Joseph threw out the cosmic rays plot mechanism and replaced it with genetic manipulation......but the biggest change (and a vast improvement over the original), is they way he dramatized his teleplay with more complex characters with palpable problems than Hamilton's somewhat "stock" caricatures. Outer Limits would take a lot of old chestnut Sci-Fi pulp concepts and gin them up in exciting ways. Thanks for listening, Paul. E.E.F. 06.04.17

Great story so far. Tho for a biologist this guy sure doesn’t understand a lot about evolution.
