On level 3 there is a "pattern" you can do then you use 2-3 peppers to immobilize them all and they'll stay grouped together. Its basically like having just 1 enemy chase after you but you'll have to position yourself so they don't split up. You then make each layer of burger fall with them on it and you'll rack up points, and extra lives.
One of my favorite games since I was a little kid. I've played the Intellivision, Colecovision, and NES version but never actually played the arcade version. Great video!
I like how you brag up the game ALL ORIGINAL from top to bottom, then you get into about 5 different consecutive reproduction add on's you added to the game! Comical! Good stuff though - thx 4 sharing!
I used to play burgertime on nes with my brother all the time. I never knew the guys name was peter pepper though. I recently bought the my arcade mini cabinet and also have the game on a hand held
Picking up my Burgertime today! We always watch John's Arcade in the van on the way to pick up a new game. It's not a game pick up unless John is on :)
beautiful cabinet! and the look inside! first time i ever saw inside one of those. that is truly amazing! great game. thanks so much for the great vid!
The last time I played, via MAME, I was very good at this game. I was able to flip the score. I reached level 22 or 23 (somewhere in that area). I played with the maximum enemies, because when you dropped them all together, you would maximize your score (something like 16,000 for each drop, and there are ways to repeat that for each item on the board). During the last 10,000 points (if I am remembering correctly), leading to flipping the score, you would get a free life for each item that scored. Although that might seem great, it was of little use, because the enemies got so fast that the only way to reach beyond the first few inches of your starting position was to pepper your enemies (they were on top of you in 2 or 3 seconds). So you could have 20 lives. But without peppers, eventually you would just die before you could do anything. So the goal of scoring high in this game is in two parts: 1) Run in a pattern that will get all of the enemies together, and have them chase you to the bottom row of burger parts, and drop them (and get your 16,000 points). Then repeat for every other burger part, working your way up (because if you start from the top, then you get only one 16,000 drop for the column). 2) Never miss a pepper (not easy). When you get to the high levels, that one or two extra peppers will allow you to eek out a few extra points, and if you have a really good game, then your last dozen peppers might allow you to reach the next level (and die on that higher level -- you'll die either way, but at least you have the satisfaction of reaching an even higher level). There comes a point, no matter how perfect your game play is, you will simply not be able to even get started. The enemies just start running faster than Usain Bolt.
Very nice video, John. Subbed to your channel a month or so back due to your awesome video on recapping a WG4700, and have been addicted to this channel since. My wife gets annoyed that I hog the Chromecast/TV in the living room to watch arcade vids, haha. Also great to see some good gameplay on Burger Time. Played it several times as a kid and always loved it. Still haven't run across an original cab in the Youngstown, OH area yet, but really hoping to find one someday as it's one of my all-time favorites. Until then, my MAME cocktail and 60-in-1 JAMMA cab will have to suffice. Great tips on gameplay as well! Will keep watching.
Thanks, glad you are enjoying the vids! Yeah, I don't see many Burgertime cabs come up for sale that often. But, the game does play well in MAME and on the 60 in 1 if I remember correctly. FUN GAME!
Thanks john. Burger time is one of the few games on our mame cabinet that my wife likes. We both just watched your vid and got a few pointers for playing better !
Cool! I was just playing this last night on Mame and just randomly saw this on the right side of your videos. I was wondering why I couldn't get them to fall when I was doing what you were, IT WAS THE BUN that makes them fall down! I was thinking you could do it with any part of the hamburger. I had no idea the ice cream cones and coffee gave you more peppers. I really know a lot about this game! lol One thing about these old games, they are tough as nails! So there is a lot of respect for those who own high scores, and because of the high scores and no continues that adds to the replay value. As Billy Mitchell once said, "When someone tells me about their new high score today, I usually ask them, how much did it cost you?" The Golden Age of arcades was a little before I started going to arcades, which was around 1986 to the early 90s so many of the classics were on the back wall of the arcade and not played. I love them, but I'm horrible at them!
I was eight years old when I played this wonderful game, thanks to MAME we can play these wonderful games that are over forty years old!!! It's a shame that in Italy we don't have arcade games fever like in the USA.
I have been looking at videos like this so hopefully I can have some of my own Arcade machines to repair and have fun! I just crave Donkey Kong, Packman, Mario Brothers and more. The biggest part is making that money!
Always loved the uniqueness of this cabinet and one of my favorite all time games. I've recently posted a video of my game-play on this game. Wasn't on factory settings but a great game nonetheless. Good job on that second game and a great video. Take it easy John. Thanks for posting ;)
I like the gameplay and review videos, definitely do more of them. BurgerTime isn't a game I've played much, but I'm familiar with it because of one of my favorite classic game show hosts, Geoff Edwards. He got into video games in the 80s when he hosted the arcade game-based game show Starcade, and he often cited BurgerTime as one of his favorite games. I'm sure the timing of this video is coincidental, but unfortunately he passed away a couple weeks ago, so I'm thinking of this video also as a sort of unofficial dedication to him.
Awesome video man! I have this game on my arcadesd but I have never been able to get into it because I suck at it...it was helpful to watch some gameplay and learn a few things too! Cheers!
owned it for 15 years and just put up a 126k tonight and I am super excited about it. until tonight my highest was 68k that I put up 6 or 7 years ago. love BT!!!!
I use to play BurgerTime on my Intelivision "Cause i love the arcade game sooo much :) I bored my parents to buy this game so long time they finaly do ... haha
Awesome video, John! I'm going to throw up a "EYES" score here soon for the contest. You should do one of these videos on the Star Wars vector game. Or maybe show us the JROK more in depth. :)
"Cornered by a pickle." Imagine...if it wasn't for Burger Time, we'd never have reason to ever say that. And that's just wrong. Thanks buddy and good luck wirh the high score!

Data East produced the original version of the cabinet in the same year. The artwork differs substantially the marquee is a smaller size with completely different depictions of Peter and his foes. The instructions on both the cabinet and the screens of this game do not say that the restaurant in the game has a name. Some references say that the name of the restaurant is BurgerTime, just like the game itself, but other references say that the restaurant can be McDonald's, Burger King, Jack-In-The-Box, Wendy's, Whataburger, Sonic, Five Guys Burgers & Fries, Cook Out or any other famous fast-food franchise that serves burgers. The game itself never mentions that the restuarant where the game takes place even has a name.
I used to hit well over 2 million points and so many bonus chefs the game could run for an hour after I walked away. There was a quirk that collecting too many would cause the game to reset so I HAD to stop. Of course, level 22 was so insanely fast I never made it through anyway.
Come on John, haven't you ever eaten at Red Robin? Their Royal Red Robin burger has an egg on it and it is fantastic. Definitely a must try, you'll love it egg boy. Lol
Nya, "Burger time" it's a great game :3 I found interesting what you say about hamburgers and fried eggs as topping. In Spain there are hamburgers with egg, as well as sandwiches, which have a hole in the center through which you see the yolk. We call them American sandwiches! It's very funny to know that in the USA you don't eat that XD (I suppose those sandwiches and hamburgers will be of English origin)

Love the game play vid!
LOL! THANKS! :)
BurgerTime, one of the best arcade games ever released. Endless fun and frustration!
sound track is to die for/from
Actually learned a lot from this, thanks man. Nice arcade, I wish we appreciated what we had back in the 80s...
One of my favorite games since I was a little kid. I've played the Intellivision, Colecovision, and NES version but never actually played the arcade version. Great video!

had this for the NES, but never got to play it in the arcade. has always been a favorite of mine.

I just love your place! So many games that bring back so many memories :)
