      Devil HimSelf Thanks for the compliment.
      A correction. The acronyms below describe the same function. There is a low lift cam which transitions to a high lift cam (or vice versa):
      -VTEC = Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control
      -VVL = Variable Valve Lift
      IVTEC incorporates VTEC/VVT/VVL (same thing) and VTC (Variable Timing Control)/VVT (Variable Valve Timing)

    I love Japanese engineering. I'm thinking of getting a 2010 civic 1.8 with the i-vtec. I had a ford probe 2.0 with the Mazda unit and I currently have a 2008 mk4 mondeo 2.0 duratec again another Mazda unit with the camchain. it's currently done 164,000 miles and is still smooth and quiet. a lot of civic owners reporting good fuel economy with that 1.8 engine!

  • @Can-Am1989
    @Can-Am1989 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the same car and going to reflash it next week, 6k rpm is waaaay to high to be usable, especially in a manual like mine. Here in Europe it costs around 350-400 dollars to reflash, not that much for a 9-10hp gain up in the range and 30 hp gain in the mid-range. There is no way of telling that the car has been reflashed, no errors, no check engine, cruise control still works, etc...

    FYI, your vtec cracks at 5,000rpm for lower engagement, 6,000rpm for upper.
    Basically, from 5000-6000rpm, you switch to high cams if you're on the throttle enough, and beyond 6000, you always switch to high cams.

    when the vtec came in, I was torn from the seat and felt a strong tear.
    fantastic!!! the noise also changed. the car and the muffler all original.
    now I have an accord 2007 2.4 tipes. and when the vtec comes in, there is almost nothing. no tearing, no noise, only slightly, but slightly increased. I could not try other tunings to see if it's normal. why? ;)

      -Install aftermarket intake
      -Install aftermarket exhaust system
      -Use tuner to set VTEC crossover for lower rpm for more VTEC sound

      Geo Gabri you can buy aftermarket camshafts that have a more agressive profile on the vtec lobe. This will provide the biggest difference on the vtec engagement.

      GT Content thanks a lot for answering!
      Since you are a Japanese guy and you have decent experience about Honda engines you are like golden source of knowledge to me!
      Will any CAI work the same or should i get a K&N/injen/DC sports? Unfortunately in Germany tuning products that are produced from other countries are illegal to be used here, there is a German brand called TSS which produces Honda tuning parts but i don't really feel like putting any German bolt ons to my Honda since i don't trust them TSS produces a CAI dor k24 engines which has a weird twister that spins but i don't think that's something really smart, also the last owner of my princess threw a new full exhaust system from FOX (german brand i guess) but the catalytic converter is stock and lastly i plan to reflash my ECU with the integra Type-R setup which kicks at 4.6k RPM, a friend of mine with same car reflashed and has CAI with stock exhaust, the vtec kicks in at 4.6k but there is no loud crossover but the sound of the engine goes NUTS when is in VTEC, thats really confusing me... a friend here on same comment section suggested to change camshafts, will that make any difference? If yes will i have to remap the ECU since vtec cam lobes will be bigger? And at last lets say if i add a CAI and get an RBC intake manifold and a throttle body from the k20a/a2 engine will that help at all?
      Sorry thats too much to answer i am a pain in the ass ^^
      I hope you can find so.e ti.e to answer my questions, REALLY APRECIATE IT SIR! wish you the best! 😘🇯🇵🔰

      Devil HimSelf thanks for the input buddy!
      Just a question, will that really work?! Do i have to change anything at all after installing the bigger lobe camshafts? Like... the timing maybe or remap my ECU to match or just replace the camshafts and start the car and i am good to go.?

    Thinking of Civic 1.4 (2015) would that be slow? Coming from Civic Esi D16Z9 engine. :/ Thanks for all the videos.

    • @GTContent
      @GTContent 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slow is what you think of it. I'd opt for something along the lines of dual cam and VTEC if you're looking for performance with potential for future upgrades.

    • @konpasterr
      @konpasterr 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. I am not talking about future upgrades. Just a Civic that is fast enough like the older model. Let's see 1.6 (2010)? or maybe 1.8 (2015)? Are those any good?

      piratx mac I'd shoot for the r18.

    It's VTC on the SR20DET right? I do know for sure it's The part that makes SR engines sound like a diesel when they go bad 😀 Is VTC more like Toyota's VVT or is it more V-tecy? Is it the VTC on my stock S15 that activates more boost from the turbo, a system that was set in place for the S14a as well, but never worked? It's only a 0.1 boost increase, but I'll take everything that makes me faster. Hmm, now I must Google. thank you for the information.

      The S14/S15 had Variable Timing Control (VTC) on the rear wheel drive SR20DET.
      Honda VTEC is like Toyota's VVTLi. Nissan also has "VTEC" which they call "Variable Valve Lift", but it's only available on their front wheel drive SR16VE, SR20VE, SR20VET.

    So I have a stock 2015 Honda Civic LX with the VTech engine and a CVT tranny. Its my daily driver and I don't race. I don't ever remember seeing my RPM gauge ever going above 4,000. Does this mean I have never engaged the secondary cam lobe? Does that mean I have never used the VTech feature?

    • @GTContent
      @GTContent 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nick V The VTEC on your engine (R18) is actually different. It has a standard lobe and switches over to a smaller (fuel economy) lobe. In a sense you are always driving in VTEC and then it engages to the fuel saving cam lobe.

      Got it. Thanks. That explains why even at highway speeds my RPM's average a very low 1,500.

      GT Content so the engineers can plan for an economy car for the parents and a q-shop that the son understands but points out great fuel economy when the family is in the showroom. I drive a ‘91 Civic 2WD wagon with 16V SOHC. It certainly has no pickup outside of first gear LOL.

    Hey buddy plz help my 2009 Accord EX-L i4 has been getting a bad noise on cold starts for 1-2 seconds. I did some research the VTC actuator is bad. Do you know anything about this? Thank you

    • @GTContent
      @GTContent 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Michael Broski If the VTC actuator is bad, then it'll need to be replaced. I'd suggest doing an oil change first as there may be gunk in the oil causing it to malfunction (Use some kind of oil additive that'll break down gunk) and then see if the problem persists before replacing the VTC.

      @sheldonm3535 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      GT Content I'll do an oil change any suggestion on additive? I've only ran Mobil 1. Changed every 5k many times before even the service monitor even suggests. I take great care of this car. Sometimes even better than my M3 tbh
