Must have been a really sweaty and noisy experience. I think Awa-odori really captures that deep-summer festival vibe. I like watching it with a cool beer and just letting the music and dancing transport me to a Japan without having to endure the 30C. A real summertime treat! And I must say I'm really impressed by the dynamic range of that mic. You get so close to those drums and I cant' hear any clipping and I can still make out a lot of the more quiet environmental sounds at the same time.

I work at a Japanese restaurant and inside we have some display screens where we play your videos every night for people to watch while they eat and so many people love it!! Sometimes it’s a little distracting because i love to watch it too haha :-)

the dancers are so cute and pretty! and mad respect to all the performers, must have been exhausting to keep this up on what looks like a really hot night. especially the giant drums probably arent light.
I think being the first Awa-odori in four years gave it an extra positive energy that shows in both the performers and the people watching it from the sides. Thanks Ram, I've missed this, too!! 👍
Thanks for posting this video. I hadn't heard of this festival even though I've been to the Tokushima Awa Odori twice, and the Koenji Awa Odori. This reminds me of some of the free routes in Tokushima where the crowd is very close to the dancers. Koenji seemed much more crowded than your video of Shimokitazawa, (the night I went to Koenji it was super hot and humid (I think even hotter and humid than normal), and JR had to have traffic control inside the train station because there were so many people getting off the trains).
