Jamie Vorne at the time he signed up to do 6 of them i think. Went to a red & black night there aswell & New Year’s Eve 2002 maybe 03 Eddie played that night aswell guy ornadel closed the night.
I Was 20 At This Gig . . . Never B The Same , The Days When Ideas Where Signature , Nothing But A Pair Of 1210s And A Mixer With A few Effects If You Were Lucky. Excuse Me While I Go And Cry With My Vinyl 😢 . . .
Imagine going to a meganite in Ibiza 15 years ago and getting this all night. Go now and it's all about pastel coloured shorts and lads fake tanned up 😂
Can't believe it was that long ago! I was 17 when in 2002 when this was mix was on galaxy... rememeber the days of recording the sets from the radio onto blank tapes! I remember recording this mix and being pissed with the presenter who kept talking and all the adverts! I never got to go Ibiza when Meganite was on :( Was great lineups and he had chris liebing as a resident alongside him. I went to ibiza in 2016 when there wasn't really any techno and was just guys with bare chests and the rise of the daytime pool parties
Cream Fields 2003 lads! Mauro was legendary 🙌 one of the best sets of my life. Derrick May is there too though . What the fuck is wrong with German people...
I am from Glasgow and travelled to this. Stayed on the Haggley rd. If my memory serves me correct it was called Cook house. Got a taxi to the NEC and then fuckn went for it. Amazing 9 hours. But the best of the night was Roger Sanchez. Never heard anything like it.
Sometimes it amazes me that Techno DJ's like Mauro Picotto used to play this kind of techno in comparison with what he plays today. And what I find even more amazing is that the entire Techno scene shifted dramatically in there sound and BPM and yet apparently all of them like it that way. Makes you wonder did they all change, really because they like the new sound more then the old? Or did some of them change because they simply follow the Trent of what's popular right now? Because I find it hard to believe that all of them changed there musical taste together at the same time. :P Any of you have a opinion about this? :)
i find it hard to believe that they changed their musical belibefs and tastes as well. simply becasue my tastes have remained the same for the past 7 years!
Gabriel Black Do you think that music is always progressing? To a curtain extend that's true. But look at all the other genres? For example how much has Trance really changed the last 10 years? Or all the other Dance genres? Its true that they have evolved. Just like the technology has evolved, what plays a big role in creating Electronic Dance music. But the changes in Techno are far more dramatic then all the other genres. Compare this DJ set to a Mauro Picotto set when Minimal techno was all of a sudden popular. No hardcore or Trance DJ has shifted that dramatically in such a short time. Besides its always a choice what you play. Look at DJ's such as DJ Rush, or Marco Remus? But I can imagine that if you create the same music for 10 years that you like things to change. So it is probably a little bit of both. Meaning there taste changed and it changes with the current (to use the same word as you did) But a current can only exist if somebody decide to change in the first place. And then its a question of do others follow yes or no? And it still amazes me that in the Techno scene, so many are willing to change so dramatically. I mean do you all remember the minimal techno hype all of a sudden? I mean what the fuck? One year Adam beyer, Mauro Picotto, Monika Kruse where fast and hard. The next, they all played fucking minimal. And what surprised me even more. Is that the audience allowed it to happen. Example, I went to this party with several techno Areas. And I wanted to see those 3 DJ's that I just mentioned. And they where all playing on the mainstage. I heard they where playing minimal so after 3 songs I left. But all my friends stayed there. Just because of the reputation of those DJ's. I went to see other hard techno DJ's and discovered some great new DJ's because of it. When I returned to my friends and asked, And did they remained playing minimal the entire set? They replied, well the last 15 minutes of there sets where OK. So I think to my self. Why the hell did you stay there all that time? So in the end. Its not just DJ's its the Audience too. If everybody would walk away during the sets of those DJ's. The Minimal hype would have ended before it began. Being a producer myself, I think that Techno is the most creative and innovative Dance genre there is. What is a good thing. But innovation and creativity are linked towards doing NEW things and this means change. And I think that is the reason why Techno changes far more dramatically then other dance genres. Because innovation and Creativity is really far more important defining the Techno genre then Bpm range or how hard it sounds. But this is my own theory. Opinions anybody?
Your totaly rite in what your saying. Im on both sides of the fence as i love the old tech sound of the early 00s but i also like the new minimal stuff from today. Its hard to find new djs pushing through the "old sound". So you kind of have to listen to the new stuff and hope some one plays a bit of an older sound. Their is an english dj called ben law. He has an itunes podcast(benlaws techno podcast) have a listen to the la la land mix. And the techno law061 they are like the old. He pushes a dark hard sound. Not euro gabber or hardcore .old tech. Good luck
By far, one of the best sets to train to. Gym, running, anything. I have been listening to this set on and off since 02, and am dying to get a good rip of Dariush - Ira, I may have to get it from this set. Bravo for posting this. I also endorse Johan Gielen - Trance Energy 2004 for being a wicked training set.
@@benhartley5495 It's a selection really combining actual techno tracks with some hard/techy trance as it was called back then. I get what you mean though bud regarding surgeon, etc. That is proper nice dark and chunky techno.
I was there, what a awesome time we had, I would give my right arm to go back to these epic nights, wish they would a one of, so we could all relive the true discotech generation ;)
brate moj Nikola hvala ti za ovaj post tebra vratio si me u vrijeme kada sam poceo da slusam techno....a ovo je jedan od najdrazih setova koje sam cuo jos tada...hvala ti stari moj .....Techno for Life.....LETS GOOOOO
My uncle introduced me to this guy and gave me my first trip into these pills that were called bumble bees. He explained the different sounds Mauro would use in this set and man was it amazing to hear .
Think I remember listening to this set on the radio, my nights that I couldn't afford to go out consisted of listening to sets like this broadcast on the radio and they always had me rocking out more than a night out in town did, just wish I was at them when the Trance was in its peak ^^
We're in 2018 baby! This set reminds me of myself as a 17 year old kid recording this onto a blank from Galaxy and being annoyed with the presenter leaving the set to go and talk.... so cutting that out and all the galaxy adverts. Killed me! I've just found the tape out of this mix from all those years ago and i did cool artwork on the tape cover like i did with all my tapes recorded from the radio. I enjoyed making the covers but the hassle of recording the mix was a pain.....look how easy it is now.... you go on youtube and type it in and oula. It's on in. I did enjoy making the mixtape cover art though from cutting from Mixmag. Haha. Good times i'm glad i didn't have youtube when i was growing up and social media. Peace!
So brutal! Absolutely insane assault on the ears, techno from a different era but still so fresh. Btw people moaning about this type of techno no longer around check guys like Ben sims etc. techno today is just as dope IMO just not as frantic, I'll take today's techno over any of that other trash around now anyway
yeah, techno seems to have evolved and agreed better than a lot of other genres...I mean, yes, tastes change and artists grow (hopefully) and you can DEFINITELY still find since great techno around now. I really like the more progressive, minimal and deep techno and tech house/funky techno...I hate to pigeon hole with all these genres but it's the easiest way I can think to explain it. if it's GOOD music then it's GOOD MUSIC
I was there that night but at the time far too hard for me to get into as I loved my euphoric trance. Now I love the harder side of techno more than anything else and regularly drop stuff like Ira and Benazol into my sets and stuff like Verdi and Joyenergizer. I think we nipped next door for Erick Morillo instead but might be getting my NEC dates mixed up! We went to three Gatecrasher ones in April 01 (best night ever), Nov’01, April’02 and Nov’02 which I’m pretty sure Gatecrasher advertised then gave the night to Godskitchen???
Quality set! Athos - Oh My God made me root out this set. What a fuckin bass drop!! Was at this and what a night it was. Scot Project was on after Mauro Picotto and played some really hard trance/techno, what a shame Galaxy never covered this also!

Was there. Mauro was my favourite dj at the time. Saw him do a 6 hour at the republic in Sheffield aswell. Brilliant.

I agree it's all coming back now I'm 40 I used to go to all these events like goodsgreef godskitchen best time back in 2000

music is always progressing so most prominent DJs don't want to fight the current

Thank you very much for posting this. I was there that night. Brings back so many memories.
Ashley Holmes I’d pay 500 bucks to have been there. Haha.
I was there that night omg absolute banging night
I just wish techno was all as fast as this stuff back in the early 00s....i don't get how people can dance to minimal stuff with a low 125 bpm....
Gabriel Black And white 1aa
This style is called tech trance these days.
This isn’t techno this is hard and German trance techno was played by DJs like John Berry and sergon worlds apart
