- G'day and welcome to my last video of 2022, What a year and I was happy I uploaded 42 youtube videos with 2 of them being live.
I sold a few paintings which was good and kept me going with my art supplies. So overall I had a good year.
I hope everyone has a great 2023 and you can get out and paint as much as you can.Thank you everyone for supporting and encouraging me week in and week out and lets keep painting :)
In this demo I used
Titanium white
Cad yellow
Sapphire
Burnt sienna
Yellow ochre
Ultramarine blue
Cad Orange
And Alizarin crimson.

In this and many paintings, I really like the energy in the froth as the waves break. You can feel it crashing and spraying. Love the colors and movement in the sky, too.
G'day Kirsten, Thanks so much. Yes I always try to put atmosphere in my paintings if possible and getting the tones right makes that easy. With the sky I fluked that one Kirsten. I haven't been able to do one like this in a while. Happy painting 🎨🎨👍

Man that's the best painting you have done in my opinion mate, it looks like a Turner. A couple of weekends we went to Liverpool and at the Tate Gallery there was a Turner exhibition and you sky his as good as his. And the mood of the painting is spot on. Hope you have a good new year mate take care

I was worried you was going to overdo the white water, each extra bit you added i was like, stop there but the end result was awesome mate.

Watched you create this painting, I think you were right, the mood was right, the colour was right and the whole painting was right. It was a very tonal experience and if I had painted it I would be more then delighted.
G'day Frits, Yeah the tone's in the sky really set the scene in this one. I took my time with it. The sky was mostly grey after that sunburst that lasted five minutes so I plugged along with no rush as the light wasn't changing much. Thanks so much Frits🎨🫶

Yeah I thought if I could get the sky right (I used cad orange, cad yellow, yellow ochre and white) and with some mood it will set up a good foundation of a good painting. A lot of people don't use a palette knife but I think it is a great tool with clean marks if ya go gently. Happy painting Cedric 🎨🎨🫶

I think you’ve done outstanding! I noticed you use your fingers too. When something is too delicate for fingers I keep q-tips in my arsenal! By the way, you did an awesome job on the life guards. In fact you caught a story in history there. Not many get to see them train. One day I’ll get brave enough to film my painting work. How did you get started posting vids?
Thanks so much Detra, Yeah I want to get more confident in doing subjects like this. I know I can do them it's just a confidence thing. I wanted to share my passion coz I know I'm a really keen artist. I'm not a camera person but my passion to share overpowered that fear so I just kept going. Now filming myself is easy.
My advice just go for it coz we only live once and you can make a difference in this world. Go for it Detra 🎨🎨👍
Considering you were using your left hand …. That’s a handicap, not too bad . I would like to see the fore ground a bit more developed. I like it .

Wow! ... That's what I call mood and movement! .... The color of the water compliments the sky ... I'm trying to make a color similar as my ocean water is always too blue or green ... Was wondering what your mixture is?
Hi Nancy, Thank you so much Nancy. It turned out good. I was happy I got some mood and atmosphere in this one.
With my water I used my sky grey which was Cobalt blue, Alizarin crimson, Ultramarine blue, burnt sienna and titanium white that I made it a touch warmer by adding a little of my warm sky colours which was a mixture of Cadmium yellow, Cadmium orange, Yellow ochre and white to it which gave a mauve glow to it. I then added Sapphire as I got to the foreground then with yellow ochre on that water on left. I should have filmed it but I just skipped all that colour mixing.
If you make you're water colours from your sky colours you get good colour harmony and I do that often that's how I get atmosphere in my painting's. Colour has a science to it and if you can work it out your on to something good I believe. When I do it it just happens subconsciously but documenting it is a bit difficult sometimes. Hi Nancy, You could add viridian,a touch of yellow ochre and Ultramarine blue than a touch of white. You can order Sapphire online. It's great for seascapes 🎨🫶🎨

Hi Maryclare, I mixed, sapphire, burnt sienna, alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue and titanium white for this sea. Sapphire with the other colours make a good dark sea colour. I hope this helps.

Yep just pure gum turpentine and oil paints 🎨👌
Got that white water just right then ruined it. Also lost luminosity from earlier on made it look too dismal.The whole thing is depressive. and overworked. Waste of paint.
