    Wonderfully Made
Lesson Title: The Lord is my Shepherd
    Scripture: Psalm 23
Wonder Truth: God cares for us
    ------
    Foundational Building Block
    WHO?
David grew up as a shepherd boy in the Judean hill country. His experience in leading sheep, directing their paths, and providing nourishment and shelter, gave him insight into God, the Great Shepherd who leads and restores us.
    WHAT?
Psalm 23 is the most famous psalm in the whole Bible. It has brought truth and comfort to people throughout the ages. The psalmist finds security and rest in the Shepherd who cares for him.
    WHERE?
David grew up in Judah-the southern part of the nation of Israel. It’s not a lush area but is filled with deserts and hills. Shepherds were responsible for finding clumps of grass and rare streams of water to feed and nourish the sheep.
    WHEN?
The psalms were written over hundreds of years-from the time of Moses to after the exile from Babylon. David-the author of Psalm 23-would have written it sometime during his life, likely between 1035-970 BC.
    WHY?
Psalm 23 is a wonderful encouragement as we are invited to rest securely in the care of the Great Shepherd. He gives us enough to feed us, He brings us to rest, and our lives overflow with His goodness. Under His guidance, we don’t need to fear.
    -----
Personal connection comes through honesty. The psalmists understood this better than anyone. From the pages of the book of Psalms leap lament and joy, anger and mercy- honest cries to the God who hears us and knows us. During this series, you and the kids you lead will discover more from the Psalms about the unchanging character of God-the loving, caring, faithful shepherd-and your identity as His kids, wonderfully and purposefully created. Together you’ll come to God like the psalmists of old, singing, shouting, and crying out your prayers and praises to the one who is worthy!
