  • I met Alan Wilder and I filmed him talking about Martin Gore. Meeting him was one of the greatest moments in my life! He is hte most sweetest person ever. I was the first person in line, 2 hours early. I was the only teenager there too. I started freaking out when someone said, "He is here!" I almost started crying, but I held myself together. I remember walking over to him and I was just so awestruck. He is an amazing man! He let me take my time, take a picture with him. Greatest moment ever! I will never forget!

    This little clip made me cry just now because I was fortunate enough to meet Alan in Toronto just a week or so later at the Recoil after party!! he was soooooooo nice and sincere! Made lots of eye contact with me and I got to touch his shoulder and he shook my hands 3 times! He also put his arm around me once!!!!! FYI for those who have never shook his hand....his hands are freakishly soft. Like silk! NO LIE!!! LOVE U ALAN!!!

      Tim Simenon, was the producer for ultra, if not for him it would have been horrible. Mark Bell produced Exciter, he was a genius that's where bjork got all her techno from. Ultra was an awesome record so was Exciter after that turned in to shit with the exception of 6-7 songs I think

      Talking about Ultra check how many people were involved to record it. Band was broken and without help from outside DM would be finished and Gore would record solo album. Gahan was unable to sing, Flatcher was mentaly instable.

    • @Garylpool1
      @Garylpool1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@shannonhutton6879 Yes we know Martin wrote the songs but he provided them as demos for Alan and the then producer to work on. Musically Martin provided the 'skeleton' of a song and Alan would then take Martins idea and and add 'flesh' to it to change it from a demo to a complete song, look what he did to Martins slow demo of Enjoy the Silence and speeded it up and is now considered one of DM's best. It was documented that when the band got back together after Alan left that they suddenly had to face the huge amount of work Alan did (and now they would have to do it). Sadly they were not adult enough to admitted it and carried on with a 'we will show Alan we don't need him' attitude that over the years has shown to be detrimental to the bands music.

      @bandit217 9 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      margus kiis it was a mystery for a long time, but he pretty much came out and said so in those 2006 documentaries that came with each of their albums. he always liked dave but felt he lost his ally when he turned to heroin and was not around for SoFaD, and he thought fletch was kind of annoying but mostly just tried to ignore him. it was the tensions between him and martin, and his perceived lack of appreciation from him, that finally drove away.

    • @chemicalpoisons
      @chemicalpoisons 9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      bandit217 Basically, it was Martin's refusal (I think) to allow Alan to express himself through the music and/or lyrics, a thing that Dave had also strongly complained about. Had Alan had Dave's support, things may have had turned out different. But, as you said, Dave was knee deep into his own problems at that time.
      But also, the one thing that nearly destroyed the group was the success of Violator. They were so pressed to be as successful as they were, that SoFaD was a product of mandatory work, not an outcome of a fun environment and spirit. According to them, they were _miserable_ in the recording studio of Madrid.

    • @bandit217
      @bandit217 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Stephanie Louise I agree about the expression through music, but not necessarily through lyrics. Dave complained about it later, yea, but Alan has always said he was fine letting Martin write the lyrics. In fact when they "let" (i.e. Made) him write those few songs on Construction Time Again and SGR he said it made him very uncomfortable. He was much more about the musical atmosphere and production. Input which Martin, and his little yes man sidekick Fletch, was squashing more and more on SoFad without Alan's backup to help him out.

    • @chemicalpoisons
      @chemicalpoisons 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bandit217 I am sorry, I was misinformed apparently, I thought Alan wanted to write lyrics as well.
      But yeah, SoFaD, as great as an album it was, its production through turmoil, and the hellish Devotional tour afterwards, did little to help them. Especially since, from Dave to Alan to Martin, everyone kept their opinions inside, and never sat down to solve their problems. And those problems eventually combusted.
      (I also assume you wanted to write _without _*_Dave's_*_ backup to help him out_, not Alan's?)
