      Also, could you guys watch another guide 🙏🙏 The one you watched last time sucked tbh, it was only funny clips. Picking short videos to get it in quickly isn't really helpful in a group with 8 members that have so much to them. So I recommend teanosugas 2023 ver, it long but really is gonna help u learn abt the members and their music.

    If you don't like them switching from rap to singing then Kpop is the wrong genre for you...please understand i am not trying to be mean or rude at all but literally 99% of Kpop has rapping that goes into singing or vice versa. You get used to it the more you listen to it. Also yes this a rock star album..but Their "rock star" definition means to be yourself no matter what people think..enjoy yourself ..dress the way u want, paint your nails black if u want...enjoy your one and only life. Thank you for your reaction 😊

    Tbh, have a bit of a teeny bit of a “love hate” reaction to your reactions but in all seriousness, if you want to listen to Stray Kids, you are going to have to expect the unexpected and keep an open mind. They deliberately don’t conform to expectations and standards but their own flavour. They will switch up rap, vocals, beats, genres all one song. I never expected to like K-pop either at first but I love the energy Stray Kids especially bring as well as the beautiful vocals when they slow things down, and their often thoughtful, relatable, empowering lyrics. If I recall they sing they are “not different but unique” in Comflex. It is a cultural adjustment and I appreciate that you are open to listening and learning unlike some reactors who insist they sing in English or stop wearing makeup (it’s just part of how K-pop works). There are other K-pop groups you might prefer because they have a more mainstream melodic sound such as TXT (who I enjoy for their different sound, no disrespect to the group at all so no hate from MOAs please). By the way, I love Cover Me for all their gorgeous vocals, as well as Megaverse despite how different they are. Thanks for keeping it real, guys.

      I'm the same, but for me it's the not finishing the song for me. That drives me nuts, it feels like the interest is really there, just eager to finish asap.

    • @nbucwa6621
      @nbucwa6621 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      I would honestly say that skz is not for people (not talking about these two reactors now but in general) who are closeminded about music and only interested in listening to one sound/genre.
      Part of the reason I love skz is because their discography is so diverse. You never know what to expect with each album and they don't shy away from experimenting with different genres, even crossing cultures, in one song. I listen to a lot of western music of different genres and I can say that I've seen the backlash that bands face when they try to move away from their previous sound that fans were attached to. It can be brutal. Which makes Skz pretty brave because they are willing to risk the loss of their original audience in order to keep pushing the boundaries of their own sound rather than just replicating the formula of whatever music has brought them the most success (tbh it would be so tempting to just keep remaking "god's menu" but packaged differently and try replicate the "hit" they had with it for example). Taking these risks also shows skz's trust in their fans that stays won't abandon them but are open to their experimentation.
      Stays are crazy but I love that we are always ready to try something new and embrace the experimental element of skz instead of bashing it like I've seen countless times with other artists' fans. We really allow Skz to take us on a journey to wherever they feel like and just enjoy the ride.

    • @kiaretts1102
      @kiaretts1102 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@nbucwa6621 I agree, and I think part of it is also that from the start Stray Kids “educated” their fans to always expect the unexpected. Each of their vocal qualities are so different from each other that putting them together could have been really hard and not ideal for a K-pop group, but they manage to transition into one another in a very harmonic way. So they were “unique” ;) from the very basics, and they also always experimented. Their true cypher, so to say, is that their songs are artistic collages of different elements, be those different genres, or beats, or voices. I don’t know, but for me, you either hate it or love it, or you start from hating it and end up loving it, but there’s never a lukewarm middle ground.

    The first part “welcome to the stray Kids hot Megaverse” sang by Felix which you did not quite like, was intentionally done that way. Rather than changing the beat at the start of the next verse, they chose to change it in the middle of the verse (Stray Kids are innovative and not afraid to experiment), but I see like it might not sound”right” to some. Switching from rap to vocal is also intentional and Stray Kids are one of the best in making it seamless, it provides the listener with a respite from the beat and it enhances the impact when the beat returns. I recommend you listen to those songs a few times to see the value of it. Kpop does that a lot, so you are out of luck if you don’t like it, sorry! Cover Me is one of my favorite songs in this album!! Stray Kids are amazing producers.

And if they don't like the switch from Rap to sing, vice versa, they shouldn't even try kpop 🤷‍♀️. "Being honest" doesn't mean being rude or tactless. I know you guys probably think it's necessary to be so radical in your judgement, but being disrespectful towards a song when you could just say "It's not for me/my preferred style" is disrespecting an artist's work, and that's uncool for anyone out there. "Noisy" switchups and especially melodic parts alternating with rap is Stray Kids's brand and they've gotten enough hate and complaints for that - and it's also very common in kpop, so you probably will have to get used to it and talk about it in less condescending terms if you plan to continue reacting to that genre :))

    For alot of StrayKids music you have to listen to it a few times before it truly hits so I'm sure if you give MEGAVERSE a few more listens, you'll notice a change in your perspective.
    I'm a hardcore StrayKids fan and I love ALL of StrayKids music but I don't love every song at 1st. For example, I wasn't sure if I liked BLIND SPOT and COMFLEX at first. By the 3rd listen I was jamming hard to them and I truly love them now.
    StrayKids describe their music as "funnily annoying but addictive" which is definitely a true description lol. Changbin said if your 1st reaction isn't "wth is this... but why do I keep wanting to listen to it?" then it's not a StrayKids song lol. They pride themselves on their unique, strange, "noisy" sound and refuse to conform to mainstream music standards.
    That's why our fandom loves them and resonates with them so much. Also the fact that their lyrics are very relatable. I hope you give the songs you're unsure about a few more listens and just see how you feel and if you come to a different conclusion later. I'd be curious to see if your opinions change over time like mine do 😉.

    All I have to say is, Stray Kids is def not for EVERYONE and you can dislike their music and that’s that, but I will say that when it comes to SKZ they have said themselves that their music is “petty” or somewhat playful/annoying. Their element is being unpredictable and getting stuck in your head, so on the 1st listen you may think you hate it, but you find yourself being more and more absorbed and attracted into their sound and all of sudden it’s like “this isn’t even my music taste, why do I like this..?”, and that is the “ annoying” aspect of their sound. That’s what they themselves have described their music as, and I would say it couldn’t be more true. They can be jarring to listen to for someone who isn’t familiar with them, as they have a very unique sound, to the point they created/pioneered their own genre called “mala taste” and never follow the norms, but somehow we all end up slowly but surely becoming stays when we realized we have been caught in the trap of their sound. Once the song hits, there’s no going back, you can’t unhear it even if you might’ve though otherwise on the 1st listen.

So they are playing around with the rock genre but the album is more about pleasure or like being who you are. So they kinda made some songs that they've wanted to. The album intros are interesting if you're into that kind of thing.

    tbhh almost, if not all, of Stray kids songs include that switching back and forth between signing and rapping. It's honestly what draws a lot of stays in to the fandom. Stray kids make loud music which build up momentum and catches you completely off guard when the rapping abruptly stops and switches to soft melodys. Their songs are always so upbeat and chaotic and its rare to get songs like 3rd eye, Hero's soup, and There which are very mellow and calm skz song's. It happens a lot in their most popular songs like S-class and God's menu. Honestly, Kpop groups as a whole often do this so if ya'll don't really like it then the kpop genre is def not for you😭 I luv watching your reaction's though frfr (even though yall skipped like half of blind spot WHICH WAS A CRIME LMFAO)

    Cover me is definitely my favourite from the album. Hyunjin and Bang Chan wrote a beautiful song. All 8 boys, including the 4 main rappers, really prove they can really sing too. Seungmin really proves he deserves the label of main vocalist with that drawn out high note and Bang Chan follows him up proving he's an underrated vocalist who, as the leader and main producer, usually takes a backseat to let the other boys really shine, but is still very capable. I love the rest of the songs though. Megaverse and Leave took a couple listens for me to decide whether I really liked them or not, but they have definitely grown on me. Lalalala has become my favourite song to put on while working out and cleaning right now, it's so high energy. The 4 solo songs you haven't heard yet that you need to hear are Lee Know - Limbo, Felix - Deep end, Seungmin - Stars and Raindrops (I prefer Here Always from Seungmin but that was a song he did for a k-drama, not a solo song as a part of Stray kids) and I.N - Hug me. (although I prefer Maknae on top from I.N but that song features Bang Chan and Changbin, so it's not a solo) Now I mentioned earlier that all the boys proved they can sing, if you want to check out them all also proving they can rap, check out Maze of Memories and FAM.

    heart without leaving anyone indifferent.

    Stays or casual listeners in the comments, please chill out. We are getting an understanding of the music they like. If the main stray kids music doesn’t resonate with them, point them to other tracks, we have many to choose from. Or even point them to a group with the sound they seem to like. No need to be negative and tell them that kpop is not for them, when the genre is so broad. God Bless♥️

    • @nbucwa6621
      @nbucwa6621 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Agreed stays should chill but the problem isn't disliking the tracks. It's acting like a song is objectively "ass" just because they don't like it. It just shows ignorance and closemindedness. Not bashing them but they should reflect on how they engage with music that isn't their preference. That's why I prefer watching reactions of people who are actually musically trained or have a background in music, they tend to bring a better understanding to a song than "I didn't like it so it sucks". There's so much depth to this ish (not talking about skz specifically but artistic production in music in general).
      I do actually like these guys so I'm not being negative and I hope they keep listening to music outside of their regular scope because it will definitely help them build a repertoire to reference from when engaging with art that doesn't cater to their preferences.

  • @stillastrayyayayaya
    @stillastrayyayayaya ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Appreciate your reactions but I really think you guys should have reacted to the Prologue Video to Rock Star before going into this one! The references would have helped you get an idea of what Rock Star as an album is truly about. (btw, I'm surprised you both didn't pick up on the Dark Knight bus reference in Lalala).
    FYI, the album may be called Rock Star but it's supposed to be *"rak"* which in Chinese means *"pleasure"* (yes, although they are a Korean group, they take on different references which are inspired from different cultures). So it's a play on the word- "rock". They play on this word in their title track, "Lalalala" as well cause it sometimes sounds like they are saying "rak rak rak rak". In the Prologue video to Rock Star, they reference 4 Chinese characters which are sorrow, anger, joy and pleasure. These represent the emotions one feels when going on stage to perform for the first time like a school kid performing on stage as a part of the school marching band. Plus, they also take on references to Japanese folklore- "Umibozi" are the giant sea monster like creatures seen in the Lalalala MV. It is believed to be the souls of drowned monks or individuals who perished at sea. Overtime, fueled by resentment, they emerge into the bald headed, black eyed sea giants. So the reference to these giants in the MV adds an entire new layer of meaning cause it could mean resentment as a result of fears which turn into anxiety.
    That's why all this is important to understand Rock Star as an album, because it's not your regular Rock album. It talks about embracing your passions through seeking pleasure in the little things.

      Damn, ty for this. I'm an international fan and still new (about a year) as a stay so even though I tend to watch teasers and prologues for better context, I still miss a lot of subtleties. When consuming another culture (even if just musically) so much gets lost in translation. It's really cool when people take the time to explain the cultural context behind certain choices and inspirations that a foreigner wouldn't intuitively pick up.

    To explain what the album title means, you have to understand that Stray Kids like using homophones. Those are words that have different meanings but sound the same. The title actually has the Chinese word for happiness/pleasure. But when pronounced, it sounds like rock. So this album is Rock star, or pleasure star. It's all about emotions. From the in your face ones, to the quieter sad ones. Every song is written to play on an emotion....Or several in one go.
    Oh. And fun thing....Stray Kids don't actually swear....Even though we heard what sounds like "shit", they wrote the Korean word for "shh". "Swit". It sounds almost the same, and they can get away with "swearing" and not get in trouble. I think Bang Chan got extra inspired by one of their junior groups Xdinary Heroes. They have a line in one of their songs that goes "If you seek it, Why Owe You?" Just say that line fast & you can see how it sounds when they sing it. Especially when they slur "seek it" together.

Not just creating guff but producing top tier next level tuuuuuunes. Their lyrics and videos are layered and meaningful.
    You might want a group that's more...formulaic? Popish?

    @victoriarosenberger2716 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Stray kids are not only experimental with blending vocals and genres (which not everyone likes), but their music also holds to a lot of traditional asian elements. It's like language (grammar, sound, tone) but even further. Victor Zuckerland wrote "we can translate from any language into another language; yet the mere idea of translating, say, Chinese music into the Western tonal idiom is obvious nonsense".
    It's like taste in food- even if you went out for Thai, it will likely be a blend between what you'd normally find there and what's available in your own country. These comments aren't objective. If only commenting on subjective topics, it's cool to say "I hate the style, it's not for me" but simply insulting the work really demonstrates a lack of understanding of... well, anything outside of your immediate surroundings.
    It's like going to eat Mexican food and a dude at the next table is going "this restaurant sucks, it's nothing like Taco Bell." Or: it's like saying blonde chicks are ugly. Just. No. That's not how preferences work.
    Opinions are fine. Focus on critiques, not insults. Feedback will be far more positive. Good luck.

Once you get passed that stage you'll definitely enjoy the genre more. love the real reactions btw!! its nice to see reactions from ppl whos just recently introduced to kpop, if you guys love dance videos to get to know the individual members better, check their dance line Hyunjin Lee Know and Felix, they choreograph and has a lot of dancing videos in youtube individually and as a group.

    I feel like if u guys were to watch any of their content ur UK asses would b BAFFLED at how they act💀 like the things u said about being looked at weird if u acted like this/said these things to someone, bc like in Korea it’s very normal for men to be physically affectionate towards each other so like skz r always cuddling up on each other💀

    I’ve said it and I’ll say it again kpop is not for British people, you guys just don’t get it and that’s fyn I live in the UK so I know what am saying, SKZ is not the group for you “emo” type shit is not what you should expect from stray kids cus there’re more upbeat type maybe try listening to tomorrow by together in short (TXT) then you’ll find the “emo” type music you like. and NEVER compare Bangchan to that man ever again. Peace👍

    Not going to hold you guys. Your reaction definitely gives me mixed emotions. I understand if you might not like something but try finishing the songs. Most Kpop songs take a full listen or more than one time listen to feel right. Love your guys opinions but I feel you guys can understand more if you finished the songs and try watching a behind the recording scenes and that’s with every Kpop group. If you really want to understand Kpop you must do your research and watch their masterpieces being created
