    Hi Sal, pretty well with the graph explanation but make it a bit simpler. Find f(x)=y such that the determinant is negative and the number turns imaginary. Since for y=-5, you get 3(x-1)^2 and hence the determinant must be 0 because there are equal roots, any y below -5 would make the discriminant 0 and hence the range is [-5,∞). This is what I was taught in 8th grade.

    One can also calculate the range by using differentiation... That'll make it easier. But yeah, this falls into algebra, before the calculus. So, great.
    Btw, thanks a mountain for this video! 🎉

    1:03 11 years late, but technically speaking, Real numbers ARE Complex numbers, in the form of a + 0i. More accurately, real numbers are any number that does not contain imaginary parts. (And Imaginary numbers would be any complex number in the form of 0 + bi).
    Which is a little too complicated for anyone who isn't familiar with complex numbers, but I wouldn't have said Real numbers are everything but Complex numbers, since, you know, they are contained in the Complex number group.

    our Domain and range only has {x|x} or {y|y}, no graphs or table of values, how about that???

    For the range, is it always bound to the y axis? and domain in the x axis? Or am I just imagining false information that will mislead me?

    • @MeetByTheRiver
      @MeetByTheRiver 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      josh lerio no, you aren't imagining it, it took me forever to realize it too, but the range is always going to be the y-axis or the y of an order pair (x,y) and domain will always be the x-axis and the x of an order pair (x,y). Also to find the range on a graph, when looking at the y-axis it's going to be where the graph starts and ends, kind of like when you do a vertical test with a pencil to see if a graph is a function, you bring that pencil up from where it starts, and down to where it ends to see if no other point crosses. The same goes for the domain, but instead of the vertical test, it's the horizontal test, where you bring the pencil from left to right on the graph, to see if no points will cross.
