Hi there, some information on the abandoned platforms (17:30 in the video). They are the remains of Nothberg Station, which has been out of use since 2009. However, 5 years prior to that, a new station opened on the parallel running railway line a little to the north of the mainline, which carries half-hourly local trains. The resons for the closure were low passenger figures (enough for the new local services but not for regional trains on the mainline) and improved capacity on the mainline. The local line splits off of the mainline at Stolberg and rejoins it at Langerwehe. This local train line, the RB20 or "euregiobahn", is in of itself quite interesting: The trains run around Aachen and its neighbouring towns in weird bow-like shape, with the two ends meeting at Stolberg. There were plans to fit these mainline trains with tram equipment (like indicators and rear view mirrors) and let them run directly into the city centre of Aachen. Not tram trains running on railway lines like in other towns, but proper heavy rail trains running in the streets. The plans are now abandoned, but there is always talk of revisiting the plans.
This RB20 "Euregiobahn" also stops at Heerlen en Kerkrade in the Netherlands. It serves as a local connection in our border area, between Heerlen in the Netherlands and Aachen-Stolberg in Germany. I live in Heerlen (NL), right next to the station.
@PTGRail, Nicht Einsteigen means Do Not Board. So in a more common way in Brittain it would be Out of Service. If you'd like more German to English or even Dutch to English translations, plz let me know as I'm happy to help. Station translations for those who find it interesting, here Hauptbahnhof in German literally means Main Station. (Central Station for our American readers) Start at Aachen Main Station (Central Station for our American readers) 10:30 Aachen - Red Earth 12:05 Eilen Village 14:15 Stol Hill (named so after their mining history, the big hills of waste material formed while mining for brown coal) 16:10 Eschweiler (No suitable translation) 17:30 Nothing Hill (Remains of Nothberg Bahnhof)(according information below from @LondonUndergroundFan, many thanks) 19:30 Longwind 23:15 Düren (No suitable translation) 24:35 Merzenich (No suitable translation) 25:47 Farmer (Buir is pronounced as Bure, as in pure w/ a B, approximately)(Buir is the predecessor buer or bauer, which is simply Farmer in German) 28:10 Sin Village (Not to be compared to the English word Sin) 29:10 Horrem (No suitable translation) 30:56 Frechen-King's Village (This is actually a station that, as the place name already suggests, is shared by 2 villages. Frechen and Königsdorf.) 31:56 Cologne - Meadows West (Weiden used to be a seperate village, but is new integrated into the city of Cologne and serves as one of many suburbs) 32:25 Lövenich (No suitable translation) 33:55 Cologne - Mungers Village 36:35 Cologne - Honourfield 39:00 Cologne - Hansa Circle 40:00 Cologne Main Station (Central Station for our American readers)
It'd definitely be quite uncomfortable to leave the power controller in maximum power whilst following red signals under LZB, so a better driving practice would be either to idle the power or apply a little bit of power to keep the train ticking along instead of having jolts of acceleration every time the signal clears. Awesome video, great to see you back!
I really enjoy watching your videos. They are so informative and interesting to watch. Thank you! Just some information about lzb end and afb. When lzb ends, the afb is automatically disabled and you will be unable to use the throttle. This prevents you from speeding away as you described. After lzb end, you need to reset afb. To do this, cut the throttle to zero, turn off afb, move the afb handle to zero, move the afb handle to your desired speed, reactivate afb. All should work again. It can be quite fiddly when dealing with approaching speed reductions!
Excellent video, much appreciated! Just a note on SIFA: It's considered better form to reset SIFA when the white indicator light comes on, rather than to wait for the auditory alarm, which is only intended as a fallback. It's also possible (and, as far as I know, permitted) to preempt the visual alert altogether by resetting SIFA every 30 seconds on so unprompted.
Preempting it is probably the better way! The button is so small on the screen most of the time I don't see it lighting up, hence relying on the auditory alarm so much.
Thanks PTG, I upgraded to TSW2 during the Steam Summer Sale and received Köln-Aachen. Being familiar with similar systems, I dived right in and love the automation, but it's good to be a passenger on your drives and to get the LZB activation and control points clear in my mind 🙂👍
Oh how ive missed wayching new vidoeos i watch ur stuff every night as i love ur voice and how everything is so clearly explained ty for everything u do kind sir
I am glad to see you're back making quality content. I must say that your videos are what got me into train simulation in the first place, and most everything I know about UK and German railroads came from your videos. So big thanks for that, and I hope your "short" foray back into TH-cam is not going to be that short after all.
Another fine video, Peter. From my O-level German back in the 1960's, the two dots over the letter O (called an umlaut) turns the O into sounding like the English word 'err'. That makes the pronunciation of Koln as Kerrln.
P.S. when approaching an LZB restriction, you'd generally cut the power in order to avoid accelerating and decelerating in rapid succession, as this wastes traction power. It is also not permitted to approach an LZB halt/danger signal without manually breaking yourself.
Thanks for the tips, especially in regards to stopping at a red signal whilst manually braking. If I had stepped in, I felt we would stop too early before the signal. Could that just be a TS issue?
@@PTGRail No problem! From what I understand, LZB tends to be quite shy about getting too close to a red signal. The recommendation seems to be to get close enough to be able to read the signal number plate (about 50 to 100 meters), but no closer.
@@PTGRail Might as well wanna add that you'd normally use manual braking under 100 km/h. The LZB and several displays sadly aren't quite realistic in TSW 2, especially when it comes to brake curves and the actual in-cab display, where both the LZB range and LZB speed restriction displays are messed up (the ICE 3 has a different LZB range irl). They also didn't add a brake status display, which is quite sad. About the Hp0: You'd normally stop between 20 and 50 meters from the signal away. Edit: You'd normally also want to use the AFB, which you'd have to reset after LZB Ende by pulling the lever back and setting it to the current speed limit again.
Great to see you back! 😊 I noticed you have the same thing as me when going to Köln in the ICE, where the LZB keeps speeding up and slowing down the train as red lights come and go in front. I’ve done dozens of routes in this train in this game, but I seem to get that every time.
I was beginning to think this might be an LZB issue - I've only driven two journeys in that direction, but both of them slowed me down at the signals in exactly the same way. It doesn't seem to happen in the opposite direction.
I don't know if it's my phone, but sometimes in the video the frame rate seems to drop a little, especially when passing through cities, but in general it's a great and more fluid video, just like any other video from PTG
It's not just your phone, the frame rate does seem to vary a bit. I can't get a stable 60fps, but recording at 30fps in the previous video seemed to cause even more issues for some reason (the opposite should have happened).
Would love to see the way back in a 442 or even the BLK line! This is great material. I would love if you could share the notes that you make to learn the routes.
If you go to the PTGRail Facebook page, I shared a copy of the notes used in the East Coastway video in a post earlier today. It's the first time I've shared my notes with anyone.
Not sure what changed! Maybe 2 years of talking to the public on the phone in a 999 emergency dispatch centre? Other than that I feel like I sound the same haha!

Heyy very nice to see you posting content again man welcome back we’ve all missed you :)

No it’s fully real
The trees look a bit more blocky, but overall much smoother than other videos. Prefer this render!

Are you going to send him the money for his time and effort ? Hmmm... didn't think so.
Oh he is back :-) welcome back nice to find you active again :-)
I know what we should define tilt do. Bakerloo line because it will help me learn the full route end to end

Is TVM430 simulated in tsw 2
Yes - on the Southeastern High Speed route, and the LGV Marseille to Avignon route.
Is the ETCS-system not simulated?
No, because we have no routes to run with it on at present.
Is this a mod?
