    Blues style of play of forward dominant brutality has been the All Blacks DNA for generations. Only in the last few years have we ignored forward play and concentrated on razzle dazzle running game. Rush defense has countered the All Blacks running game since 2017. We need a dominant forward pack to get fast quality ball for our backs.

    Blues played old school All Blacks rugby. Back then, All Blacks beat every team up the middle. Less flair, more punch. Vern brought old school back. Was insane! Great to watch! Blues defense they focused on the 2nd player coming in to move the player a bit further behind the advantage line. That split second of holding up the ball and tackle assist reminds me of Lions when they were successful in Super Rugby under Johan Ackermann. This Blues team is amazing! Hope they play champions from Europe/UK in the Pre Season to see who’s the best 👀😂😎

      @D_Handler 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I don’t like the European match ups, it’s usually with a preseason team with little to no games prior, lacking match fitness and with a team that haven’t been able to build chemistry. Whereas it’s in the middle of the European season and at their home grounds. They have all the advantage

      Vern has been a great coach looking for a home, he did great things for Scotland but was stabbed in teh back by Gregor Townsend, was stuck with a weird Covid situation in Fiji, finally he has the back room and the players to do some damage: hats off to the man - and forward play? Vern is Old School with an Old School understanding of what is required to win.

    the blues were much more expansive and playing wide in both better weather and when Perofeta was playing 1st 5, plummer is awesome but he's not an expansive 1st 5 player, he can't attack the line like some of iur other 1st 5s. They will get back to it next year, but when they say we don't want to play this way they're wrong. This is the way the ABs and crusaders have always played. It's just your forward pack plays like this and your backs are more expansive, the weather and our injuries in the blues (no Sullivan, no perofeta until too late) meant the blues backs couldn't be expansive but this is what you want a forward pack to do

    10:50 This is debatable. And quite ironic
    The Blues won the Super Rugby championship by employing a very Northern Hemisphere style of rugby. Beating their fellow New Zealand teams-the Hurricanes, Chiefs, and Caders-who each played a traditional All Black Southern Hemisphere style of rugby. However, the panel is asserting that this style won't be effective against Northern Hemisphere nations and that we need to continue playing an expansive game?

    • @stealthpakfa

      @mungoblizzard6114 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@stealthpakfaI agree. It makes you wonder how a team like La Rochelle would fare in Super Rugby. Their players are even bigger than the Blues! If they played in the same style, or if South African teams were still part of the competition, New Zealand teams would need to adapt quickly. They're too used to playing a fast-paced, attacking game against each other. It's almost a relief that the Blues have highlighted the different styles of rugby for us. Barring the Blues, all the NZ teams now function as All Black trial teams with no unique style, which will eventually be exposed when they face different opposition who bring a different level of physicality.

  • @lovemysport7902
    @lovemysport7902 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    In relation to the ABs vs England, these 2 upcoming games will be England’s best chance to beat the ABs & I have England as favourites to at least draw the series & maybe even win it 2-0. My reasons are… The way the ABs season is structured, is that the ABs play all of their games in 1 ‘6 month clump’ - the June series, the Rugby Championship & then the NH End of Year Internationals & then a 6-7 month until the next June Series. Whereas the NH Countries have the 6 Nations, a few months break, the June Internationals, a few months break, the Autum Internationals, a few months break & then back into the 6 Nations. And this time around, England have had a warm-up game against Japan and have had Steve Borthwick etc at the Coaching Helm since leading into RWC23.
    So with the ABs playing their first game under a new Coach with the likelihood of new AB Players/Combinations, I would put England as favourites, albeit close, for the opening test down in Dunedin. Fortress Eden Park may even be too soon for the latest AB group to protect.
    It’s not all doom & gloom as the ABs are simply starting their journey with this new group of Coaches & Players which I am excited about & looking forward to see their growth with the next pinnacle being RWC27. It will be interesting though to see if this initial squad is being picked for the 3 games & then the squad changes slightly for the Rugby Championship & then changes again for End of Year Tour as the plans start to role out for RWC27.
    And while England picked a squad of 35-36 to tour, why are the ABs only picking 32 for a Home Series? Are those the rules or can the ABs also pick a squad of 35-36? Or is it an official squad of 32 with 4 extra players being brought in to help with 'training'...?

    • @bassk9939

      32 with extended training group. Home series so you can bring whoever you want with minor logistically disruption.

    • @lovemysport7902
      @lovemysport7902 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bassk9939 Yeah, since that post I have tweaked my thinking. As Razor said this 32 player squad is (more) about the ‘here & now’ to play/beat England so it is almost based on proven players/combinations of that first ‘23’ & then the other 9 as cover with the other 4/5 as extra cover/apprentices to see where they are at especially for the game against Fiji.
      Given that there was still the SR Final to go which could have incurred injuries to key players, given that when the squad could be named, when it came together, all of the PR etc they would have to do, how few training sessions they will actually have, especially those SR Final players doing their post-match recovery, before naming the starting 15 & the bench for the Test on the 6th July, I reckon that this squad of 32 was picked based primarily/solely on the 23 to be named to face England.
      There will be changes/additions for the Rugby Championship Squad & more than likely a few more changes again for the End of Year (NZ Autumn’s Squad) & going forward. With the expected return of Jordan, Roigard etc, the selection of the Maori ABs & the ABs (2nd) XV, that will show us where the depth is coming from. Then there are the current batch of U20s, U18s & those who are doing their time with the 7s, maybe Mounga, Frizzel etc. ‘We’ also have to keep an eye out for ‘late developers’ who aren’t currently on the radar or maybe a Tall Black, a Rower/Canoer, an America;s Cup Grinder, a ‘Brad Thorne’ who would like to try a switch of sports. Or we could get Kevin Barrett to advise some other ex-players on how to go home & breed some future ABs… Exciting times

    The Blues winning in that style makes you wonder how a team like La Rochelle would fare in Super Rugby. Barring the Blues, all the NZ teams now function as All Black trial teams with no unique style, which will eventually be exposed when they face different opposition who bring a different level of physicality and high pressure line speed.

      Interestingly Toulouse just edged out La Rochelle this weekend with their rolling-with-the-punches, expansive style of game. If they ripped the Band-Aid off for Super Rugby’s eligibility criteria (ie let Kiwis, Aussies and anyone else play for whoever and still stay eligible for their national sides) I would love to see the Force turn into a quasi Saffa side (with a good chunk of Aussies too) so that we’d have that South African style of game back into Super Rugby without having the expensive travel burden and out of kilter time zones.

And as JK said, the time zone differences between SA & NZ are too great for regular/frequent Player/Fan welfare. From a ‘fans’ perspective…
    Convenience of terminology: Are the NZ SR teams Franchises or (traditional) Clubs? How many U5s, U7s, ‘Ripper’ Teams do each of the SR teams have? For me the SR Teams are Franchises.
    With regards to expanding the SR Profile/Game, which Japanese Club or which US Franchise would ever actually win a game against any of the NZ SR Teams or would they be just a poor relation like the Sunwolves were? As a fan, I want teams who can contribute more to the competition as opposed to only money to pay for the Execs expenses.
    I keep banging on about it but get more games for the AB 2nd XVs, the Maori ABs and even create an AB Barbarians/Guest Team where the likes of old, new players could gain experience so that the likes of Fabien Holland, Anton Segner, Players needing game time, some U20s mixed with some ‘old’ boys or even NPC/Heartland players could just add to the depth of NZ Rugby. Even if the games are against Tier 2, 3 etc Countries or even Clubs in the Top14, Gallagher Premirship etc - just get games under the belt, experiences for players, improve the ABs Brand, a varied type of game for the fan to watch and hopefully not as a financial loss to the NZR/Grassroots rugby & doesn't involve Player Burnout.
    The overseas Broadcast/Content (I get to watch) is not as ‘complete’ as the NZ televised version. The coverage (I see) basically starts as the Players are leaving the tunnel to start the match & then the coverage stops just a few seconds after the Final Whistle with maybe the respective Captains immediate On-Pitch Post-Match interview. I personally would like to see more build-up & Post Match analysis/comment (if it was with Pundits I could relate to and/or tolerate).

    Idk what style we are adopting, but there's a reason we have this record, and it's not only because we razzle dazzle on a chess board. But when the boys click, they click no other.
