  • John Adams has broken out this this "how we built our splash pad video" in 2 parts for the viewers. THE FIRST SECTION (which lasts until 5:35 in the video) is a quick run through of construction with lots of after footage. THE SECOND SECTION (which begins at 5:35 in the video) shows more in-depth construction information, details on the layout & pump vault construction, and gets more into the nitty-gritty of the build. At the end John shows you what he learned after a few years of owning the feature and what he would do differently to make the project turn out perfectly!.

    Hey John great patio idea with moss boulders and hiding all the equipment etc. With regards to the settling issue on the pea gravel even after compaction maybe laying a layer of water permeable fabric on top of your last compacted layer of 1/2" to 1" stone. Lay down 1" of pea gravel compact that into stone base (this helps to lock in stone) then laying your 2"-3" layer of pea gravel then compacting again the fabric will hold the pea gravel from consistently falling into crevices of larger stones. I love love the idea of everything being hidden out of site and pitching everything underneath to center and the top of patio is level. I think i am going to incorporate something like this into my new house patio design.. thanks for sharing your immense knowledge with everyone.

    wow talk about perfect timing on a video. I am getting stone delivered later today and I'm installing a permeable patio in the back yard next and was looking for something to accentuate the water retention side. What better way than a small splash pad for the kids and dogs for everyone to enjoy. Thanks for sharing!

    That is amazing. What would the patio cost without all the water feature work, say if a guy, an every day Joe such as myself, wanted the patio to frame the Serenity pond and stream you build me?

    • @KoiAddiction
      @KoiAddiction  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We would have to crunch numbers- gravel and material prices are changing so rapidly it is hard to keep up with it!

  • @TylerTervooren

    Awesome project, John. If I ever finish my pond, then I'm going to build a pondless waterfall in the front yard. And if I ever finish *that*, then I'm going to build a pervious patio w/ water storage like this.
    Your project might benefit from some downspout leaf traps Could spit out a lot of junk that comes off your roof before getting to the vault, which would allow you to extend the time between pulling pavers and cleaning your input vault.

    • @KoiAddiction
      @KoiAddiction  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I keep the gutters clean. No problems with debris at all. The “leaf vault” was empty when I just opened it for the first time- curious…

    Hi! Wonderful video. I am going to put in a smaller splash pad in my back yard and wanted to recirculate the water. One question I had was how does this do in the winter? I live in Utah, will the freeze and thaw degrade the water catch system? Did you incorporate drain for winterization?

    • @KoiAddiction
      @KoiAddiction  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We let it run all winter. Our reservoir is about 30” deep below patio surface, so it (the reservoir) doesn’t freeze inside (in Tennessee) due to geothermal. Ithas frozen over to the point where there was a total “ice dome” over the fountains and the water was flowing inside of the dome still without hurting anything. I can’t say what would happen in Utah, probably need to put reservoir a bit deeper but maybe no. If you try it out let us know, that would be great info to share! FYI- our reservoir under the splash pad holds 60+ tons of gravel in addition to the aqua-blocks. We calculated 4000-ish gallons in our holding tank (reservoir) below the pavers. Just some #’s for ya!
