Thanks Bill- love your videos, keep em coming! I'm a 294MM Pro owner and just happened to be having a frustrating time with flats today when I saw the notification of this video being released! My flats had been all

This is a great video. 294mm is potentially great camera, but has huge problems with flats. Took a while, until I figured it out (without reading CN!).
Yes, long flats in range of at least 2-3 sec long (problem is to get so long with L filter). Moreover, you have to take them as frequently as every 10 days.

Thank you! Great feedback. A little more work with the 294 but manageable. ~ Bill

@@AstroVagabond Yes, more work. But, it is hard to beat advantages of this camera. I am long contemplating buying 2600, but just cannot convince myself.

Totally agree once again Bill. I came to the same conclusion with my ZWO ASI294MM Pro using 3 seconds as a minimum. I had to make my astroflat dimmer by using a t-shirt; paper, in embroidery hoops (See astro blender video) to keep the ADU to below 32,000 for Luminance.

Thank you just what I needed for feedback. 👍 I've placed two sheets of white paper under my flat master and I was able keep the ADU in the 32,000 range. I'm re-running all filters just to be safe. Much appreciated Andy.

I don't know if this depends on equipment. I have a rasa 8 and I take 1 sec exposures and they work for me at least for Ha RGB filters

Great question. Where I came down on it as a beginner and new to the ASI294MM not having done my own research was to go the flat / darkflat approach even though it required a little bit more effort. As new information surfaces or I take time to do my own research I will adjust accordingly. Thank you for taking time to drop into the channel and comment. 👍 Feel free to share links to your images if you like.

Glad to see your progress! But i dont think you should keep your histogram so high.. 30-50% is recomended is what I have read. If your flats are to bright with 3 seconds you can lower the brightness of your panel, use an extra layer of tshirt or but a regular A4 paper.
I have use a light tracing panel, 3 layers of tshirt and sometimes if my flats are too bright I also add 1 layer of A4 paper. And this keeps my histogram at 30-50%.
I hope this helps you even more=)

@@AstroVagabond you can also switch from dynamic exposure to dynamic brightness on your flat panel, maybe that is the best?

A4 paper is not ideal. It has unevenness. I use neutral density films. It is only need for L filter using Flat Master.

Interesting Bill. From memory you have the Pegasus FlatMaster? If so, how are you getting along with Sii Flats? I have the Flatmaster but my Sii are taking over 90 seconds per flat which is crazy long. Also, have you tried Dynamic Brightness for your flats in NINA?

Yes Simon you remember correctly the Flatmaster 150. Here is my times per filter: FLAT_FlatWizard_2021-10-28_15-30-56_Lum_120_-10.00_1x1_15.04s_0000 :: FLAT_FlatWizard_2021-10-28_15-32-17_Red_120_-10.00_1x1_18.36s_0000 :: FLAT_FlatWizard_2021-10-28_15-33-41_Green_120_-10.00_1x1_14.90s_0000 :: FLAT_FlatWizard_2021-10-28_15-36-27_Blue_120_-10.00_1x1_104.04s_0000 :: FLAT_FlatWizard_2021-10-28_15-42-37_HA_120_-10.00_1x1_129.35s_0000 :: FLAT_FlatWizard_2021-10-28_15-50-26_SII_120_-10.00_1x1_75.25s_0000 :: FLAT_FlatWizard_2021-10-28_15-53-35_OIII_120_-10.00_1x1_6.34s_0000 :: Note this was a practice run and the camera was cooled at that time. I'm following Charles Bracken who says Flats, Darkflats, can be taken at any temperature. So I doing a run of 50 flats 40 darkflats per filter right now at ambient temperature. How are things on your end?

@@AstroVagabondYou have the same issue as me, Sii' Flats are crazy long -I have the Flatmaster 250. I've been in touch with Pegasus and they fed me a story that we should only have to take 5x flats per filter with todays modern cameras which Im not too sure about. I think they are just trying to save face because of the length of times invovled in narrowband filter flats

    • @AstroVagabond

I have heard others say 5 flats. I've not run that down. But I do think Adam Block offered up a suggestion in one of his EBPP 2.0 videos Part 3 & Part 4. So I don't disassemble my image train when I travel or nightly at home. So I'm taking 50 flat and 40 darkflat of each filter right now at home. I think at the end of the day we'll need to judge for ourselves the right number.
