great video! I have an issue with my windshield wiper motor it is turning and running fine, however when i attach the transmission and wipers it just spins inside the clip that connects it to the transmission. everything is tight as can be. im able to move the wipers by hand. is the motor shaft probably stripped? If you see this and could help it would be extremely appreciated. thank you.

Thank you so much for this video. It gave us the confidence to tackle the job ourselves instead of paying hundreds to someone else. In our case it turned out that the motor was ok, but part of the mechanism under the plastic cover was siezed up. It worked like brand new once we loosened it up, though in the process we broke part of the plate that attaches to the car and had to fashion an extra plate to slide over the top to keep it all together!
With that success under our belt we're thinking about tackling the non-working electric window next.
    Vehicle: 2003 Daewoo Nubira.

Neighbor's 96 Plymouth Voyager wipers stopped working. Previous owner told her they often stop working but he never was able to fix it right. When i took the panel off 1st thing i saw was the main bolt attaching linkage arm to motor was so loose the bracket had almost fallen off. I reattached but didn't know what the starting point was or what the proper linkage set up and cycle...that is until i found THIS video that actually showed the linkage start position and proper running illustration...until I saw this and not starting at the right point the wipers were turning backwards as if they would be up full at power off & on. I didn't know (but learned) driver side blade must be on top or both blades will collide (hard) 1st time they run.
THANKS AGAIN for your great work

Thanks Scotty. Great to know I messed it up. I figured it was a direct drive connected to the motor connected by gears timed by a chip. Didn't know there was mechanical moving parts. I'm a steamfitter graduate apprentice and went to trade school in HS. Worked for a plumber for a couple years and an HVAC company for 5. I can troubleshoot and fix an oil burner on a furnace or boiler or central air condencer or air handler but I never been under the hood, unless to add w/w fluid lol.

There have been a few times lately when I needed to look up how to perform a specific task on one of my cars and came across a "Scotty Kilmer" video. At first I thought you were quite goofy, but your videos are so well done that they left me with no questions. Each task was performed with confidence after watching the video.
Now, when I'm looking for a video tutorial on a specific repair task, I am thrilled to find a goofy, Scotty Kilmer video. My daughter's 2011 Juke has an issue with the windshield wiper motor, and your video once again prepared me to tackle the job.

hes good but this job is childs play youd have be an absolute novice at fixing anything not to be able to do this, i did all this and much more to my whiper system and id never done it before but i actually fixed the dead motor aswel all the videos on this topic just replace the motor they are expensive and in my case very hard to find, my car is old, now i need to learn exactly how these motors work and fail to stand a chance of getting it to work again

CAUTION: Unplug the power to the wiper motor (at battery) before working on linkage or wiper motor main bolt /arm and assembly as the motor will cycle thru 1 turn when any forced movement is applied i.e when main motor bolt is tightened without bracing entire linkage against movement. This can grab, pinch and / or damn near rip your fingers off. Great Video, Good Luck

Once upon a time I watched a video of how to do the lower ball joints on my Jetta , looked fairly straight forward and the video showed about 12 minutes to do it per side. So 2 hours and 17 minutes later I got one done and back together as every bolt /pin, whatever was just plain rusted in place. Armed with the how to the other side took about 15 minutes till one of the bolts had a round head not the hex as all the others. So all this to say I took my wiper off the other day and it was rusted on securely and there is no way you can pop these things off as shown. I wish it were easier. However I liked the video as it appears my present 4x4 will need a new wiper motor and this looks doable for me.

  • @scottykilmer

I mentioned on another video I have a 76 dodge pickup... my wipers quit awhile back, I assumed it was just the motor and bought a new one, now the setup is completely different then what you've shown, the motor is by the master cylinder partially covered by the brake booster ( managed to get it off without removing that but would be handy if you have tips on how to remove it)....the only motor I could get from autozone that fits the truck has 4 power terminals instead of 7, motor won't work now

  • @scottykilmer

You should always check if the old motor is running once you removed it from the linkage. My car's linkage was so rusted out that it wouldn't turn anymore and I changed the motor for no reason ;-(
