I did really want one after watching this video, and a year later I finally bought one. It is possible to buy the battery now, but it's an additional £2500 for it.
@@DRPepijn Yeah, they're good fun and cost pennies to run. Also as they're so weird looking, you can get away parking them pretty much anywhere :D Only downside is you really need to buy windows for them, as you will get wet and cold out of season. The official windows for the Nissan version are about £350. But make sure you own the batteries if you do, otherwise you need to pay Renault £60 a month to rent them. (though I know a couple of used owners where the paperwork has gotten (ahem) lost and they've never paid them a penny)
@@bobwalsh3751 yes I recognised the registration when I went to view it. I had just been watching the video. it only had 2000 miles on it. Turned out a good investment too, they have all gone up in price.
+Jake Tweddle The car/cycle was originally designed in co-operation with Israeli company "Better Place" and has a battery that can be replaced by a robot. The idea was that on longer trips you would go into a service station and rather than charge the battery a robot would replace it with a fully charged one, this necessitated that the battery be rented rather than bought. BP built a number of robot stations, mainly in Denmark but went titsup shortly after the Twizy was introduced, so Renault changed the scheme so that you still rent the batteries, but get free replacements when the performance starts to go down and free roadside assistance if it breaks down or you run out of battery power.
@@Supreme-Emperor-Mittens I'ts not even a car i'ts a motorcycle or a quadrocycle if you will. The doors and the windows are optional because to reduce the prize as much as possible, so your argument falls flat. Quadrocycles does not even have doors normally.
at the end of the video the thumbnail shows the review of the Nissan Leaf and the Renault E-Fluence but i can't find the video of the renault in your channel
The company I work for has a few of the Ford version of that sort of thing. They are only good for short trips in good weather mainly during the day. They are no good in the rain or if the weather is even a little chilly. The headlights are weak so it's marginal at night even in pleasant weather and running the headlights reduces the range. They just aren't very functional.
This makes so much sense for people commuting in a city!! Image a city without the pollution and noise and best of all everybody would get a parking space again!!! And there are windows available now!!¨
Few are around. Bus Eireann has converted on of their buses recently. LPG cars like Honda's Civic aren't available here. The Calor gas tanks which are around 30 liters cost between €30 - €50, the price jumps during the Winter. Considering than now, petrol prices are over €1.60/l, you'd just be saving more than 60cents per liter. I'm not entirely sure why people aren't converting, but the same reason why most don't convert their cars to EVs or Bio Fuels, it can void warranties and rise insurance.
I sat in it. It was a very cool feeling. I'm looking forward to get an orange one as my 18th birthday present :D You have to experience it by yourself. It's an incomparable little vehicle -3
I think the future of motoring will have more of these smaller, lightweight cars in it. I just hope the designers can make them more attractive and practical than the efforts so far.
My last winter passed with a Twizy and I gotta say, it wasn't bad at all! I had aftermarket plexiglass windows thought. As far as cold is concerned, a pair of gloves and a jacket does the job for coldest days and if windshield gets all icy it even has heaters in the glass to clear it up! Even during the rainiest days, its good enough to keep the driver dry with the aftermarket windows.
It would be really good if they designed some kind of clip-on removable plastic side windows for really bad weather in Britain or Ireland. I wonder (as a techie) is it possible to buy without the battery?....
You can google for an Auto Rickshaws mainly used in the east. They come a lot cheaper, more comfortable, 4 seaters, will catch more eyes in the west. Also don't have to worry about the electricity plus the 45 pounds a month ! Definitely a negative on this one !
The battery lease thing is nothing more than a loan to pay the batteries costs, so they can justify the price, however they do offer insurance over the time duration. After the duration, I would not them to expect them to replace the batteries free of charge. A well covered up plan.
My wife would love one of those, because the traffic is crazy where she works, and she won't drive a scooter because of the rain, the heat in summer, and the danger. So I just wanted to know if it had AC. Then I find out it doesn't even have windows?! What is the point?!
Does anyone in Australia have one of these.?? Just wondering how they come prebuilt or if they require assembly.? Also do they require license to drive and registration to be on road in Australia..???
True - but now You can buy of internet ( there is few companies doing that !) ,and Renault just decided that it will be an option since next month :-) Got to Love Twizy !!! And at one point in future You will be able to get new batteries meaning better range !!!
Granted, one of these adorable cars would not be at all reasonable in my area (Douglasville, Georgia, USA), but I am moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA in the next year and I am looking for something simple, small, cheap and of course... efficient for the city streets. I wonder if these will ever make it to the United States.
It might only have 17 horsepower, but horses only have 1 horsepower - and people bloody lap them up. This is like being pulled by 17 horses. Fantastic.
It's a excellent car, but they should simple upgrade it. The doors without windows is really confusing. Why would someone create 2 doors really 1 door with windows could be so much better. Many people are also with their privacy stuffs and also when they are doing shopping, they can't carry with them along. And about the heating for the cold and even for cooling they could attach some solar system on the roof.
Yes there were ice ages, there was actually a Medieval warm age, and by the mid to late 16th century, there were cold decades. This was during a time when the River Thames used to freeze up and when Ireland had a minor famine in 1740 and 41. These ancient climates were recorded through tree rings, pollen from soil, mud river beds and so on. We should be in a cold age but the Industrial Revolution from the past 250 - 300 years, we have cut 60% of forests down and made too much greenhouse gases.
