after getting rid of edge I now get this message every time my system restarts "we couldn't complete the updates undoing changes"
So be aware you will not be able to update windows anymore if you follow this tutorial.

Mike, you can make a fortune teaching other TH-camrs how to walk through any technical issue with their viewers. Your combination of clear verbal instructions (you don't wander off the subject) and visual cues (can be viewed easily) is a winner.

@@mikerodrick5354 It would help if you turned on file extensions, the "MicrosoftEdgeChromiumBlockerToolkit" is a ".exe" and the download link you provided, You-Tube shows a warning page. Kind of alarmed me at first and I can't confirm in your video it is the same file you used. As any .exe from an untrusted source always makes me do a double take.

Program that automatically installs to your computer, is very hard to uninstall, takes up memory even when closed (it does that for me) and pops up ads about it in IExplorer, windows menu etc.
This is literally definition of a virus

IE11 is fast approaching it's End of Life, so it's time to find another browser. Edge is a great choice, it's fast and secure. It's based on Google Chrome browser (same underlying engine), both run several processes in the background, even when closed. With the amount of memory in todays systems, it's doubtful this has any impact on your performance.

Looks like Microsoft has taken measures to further prevent us from moving Edge.
Can no longer get to cmd as administrator. And the file for Edge no longer opens up to access the rest of what you mentioned here.
Do you have an updated video showing a new way to delete and prevent it from installing?

Can I use this method to uninstall Edge (regular Version) AND Internet Explorer? I do not like either one and for some reason they run in the background every time I start my computer. I hate "forced" apps on my computer. My computer belongs to ME not Microsoft or any other company.

Hello, I have watched and do like your video said but the MS-Edge didn't get out.
    .
    Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19044.2006]
    (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\105.0.1343.50\Installer>setup.exe --uninstall --system-level --verbose-logging --force-uninstall
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\105.0.1343.50\Installer>
    .
After I press ENTER a small window of "User Account Control" appears and asks "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?". After I select Yes, Nothing happens. Everything is still there.
    .
I already checked back in the RegEdit to make sure that the folder in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium has number 1 Value data box to ensure the MS Edge don't come back when Windows update.
    .
If this is the case, what is the next step that we can do? Can you help? Thanks in Advance.

To a Feature , head to Settings > & Security > Recovery, and scroll down to Go Back to the Previous Version of . Click the Get Started button to start the uninstallation process.

To summarize (3) items that need to be corrected in your video and/or your video notes:
    1) In order to remove Edge as an administrator in the command prompt ...
You forgot to mention the need to add a space between "cd" and the path we copied. The first time I tried this, I entered the copied path right after "cd" and got a message about incorrect syntax. I see from the remarks that others had the same problem. You might want to add this to your video notes?
    2) For the Notepad file to block Edge from being automatically reinstalled ...
You typed "dot reg" (.reg) and said this as you were typing it, but then you said "dash rge" (-rge) when you recapped that step. That is quite a different extension. You may want to add something in your notes about this (".reg", "All Files") in case someone misunderstands it?
    3) In your video notes, you misspelled "uninstall" ...
    Command to uninstall Edge:
    INCORRECT:
    --uninstall --system-level --verbose-logging --force-unistall
    CORRECTED:
    --uninstall --system-level --verbose-logging --force-uninstall
Could you please correct or add notes about these in your video notes since these are important details, especially for novices like me?

That's a PowerShell thing. It's called dot sourcing the file, and you have to do that to run a script in PowerShell. You don't have to use the ".\" in front of the name in the command prompt.

In case anyone else has this problem, encase path in single quotes, & enter. This gets you into installer. Then, instead of setup.exe type .\setup.exe, & then the rest of the command just as given.
Problem may have to do with using powershell instead of command prompt...

Just in case command prompt has disabled admin access.
right click start go to "run"
in the run program type "pgedit.msc" then click ok.
that should pull up your "Local group policy editor" once there you will need to navigate to "User Configuration/Administrative templates/System"
On the right hand side look for "prevent access to the command prompt" and double click that. A pop up window will appear. select "disabled" then click apply then ok and you should have access to your command prompt now.

You will need to go into Windows explorer as I demonstrated to find the correct path on your system. The version number won't be the same, this video was filmed 6 months ago.

    • @sheaoakley7126

Robert, Mike did not say to add a space between "cd" and the path you copied (although he did so when typing). The first time I tried this, I entered my copied path right after "cd" and got a message about incorrect syntax as well. I noticed that he added a space after "cd" and when I did the same, it worked.

Great question, and a valid concern. Updates are important. This will not affect the normal update process at all, other than preventing the update to Edge Chromium.

    • @mikerodrick5354
      @mikerodrick5354 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry to hear that! Try this...
" . . . to allow Edge Chromium to install, you need to remove the registry key that you added. You can delete the key manually using your registry editor, or you can modify the reg file I used in the video. Simply add a hyphen to the beginning of the registry path. It should look like this:
      [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate]
Notice the dash in front of the HKEY.
Then delete the last line "DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium"=dword:00000001
Then save the file and run like you did before. This will remove the block, and the next time Windows Updates, you should get Edge Chromium (might take one or two update cycles)
      Hope this helps! "

You ran the setup.exe with the *--force-uninstall* parameter? This will remove Edge Chromium. You will also need to follow one of the methods to block the installation, or Windows Update will reinstall Edge Chromium.

    • @mikerodrick5354

Make sure there is a space between CD and the path. It should look like this "CD C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\83.0.478.64\Installer" without the quotes. Also note as I mentioned in the video, your version number is probably different. When I filmed this video, the version number was 83.0.478.64. The version number currently is 88.0.705.56. I don't know what version you have, you will have to use Windows Explorer as I demonstrated, to determine which version you have installed, and adjust the path (replace 83,0,478.64 with your version, or better yet, just copy the path as I showed in the video. Hope this helps.

Mike, I've got a new issue.
Windows is having a new May 2021 update and because I followed the instructions to block Edge - it is reversing ALL the other updates even unconnected to the Internet Browser ?
I've dome the CMD to allow Edge to be installed yet when I have gone to the Edge Webpage. It is still blocked.
Do I go Factory Settings or another method to allow Edge once more.
