Can't wait to hear your list. Great reviews. Read Enter Ghost for BookTube prize so can't say too much but did the audio like you. Have heard good things about the Tricker and really want to read Soldier, Sailor but its not yet available in US.
Aw I didn't realise Soldier Sailor wasn't available yet in the US! I recommended it for my mom, but it might be a while until it's available in North America and gets translated I guess!
I really appreciated your thoughts on And Then She Fell. I recently finished this (like, 2 days ago) and it really shook me. However, I struggled with post-partum anxiety after the birth of my 2nd child so I could relate to it in a way that made me wonder how the book would work for others who maybe didn't have that experience.
My favourite book of the list was Soldier, Sailor which is very much about the post-partum experience, so I'm not sure that was it. I'd say parts of the book definitely shook me a lot too - but it's the other stuff, away from her pregnancy that sometimes didn't feel like they were connected together. But I appreciate what she was trying to do!
"And Then She Fell" - should have been my jam (Canadian - check; indigenous fiction with some magical realism, check), but I couldn't figure out what the author was trying to do with it. You're right that there was too much going on and therefore, it's very scattered and it just lost me. I put it down and then the ARC expired before I picked it back up, so it was an official DNF for me.
Yeah And Then She Fell should have been my jam too, fell short a bit. But I'd be keen to read other things by this author! Sometimes debut novels are a bit scattered!

"8 lives" sounds really interesting! Looking forward to hearing your overall thoughts on the list and winner :)

I have been enjoying your reading/reviewing of the long list.
Thanks Brian!
