You know nothing about me and care even less How could you understand our emptiness? You've plundered our wisdom, our knowledge, our wealth In bleeding us dry, you long for our spirit But that, you will never possess The past is now another land, far beyond my reach Invaded by insidious foreign bodies, foreign speech Where timeless joys of childhood lie broken on the beach The present is an empty space between the good and bad A moment leading nowhere, too pointless to be sad But time enough to lay to waste every certainty I had The future is a barren world from which I can't return Both heartless and material its wretched spoils, not my concern Shining like an evil sun as my childhood treasures burn Shining like an evil sun as my childhood treasures burn
The choir at my catholic elementary school in Eastern Pennsylvania used to take a yearly bus trip to NYC to see a Broadway musical, go to a touristy restaurant, and spend the entire day in NYC. This was the first musical we saw, ironically only because they couldn't get tickets for the lion king that year. We actually ended up seeing the original cast of Aida and Wicked, both with Idina Menzel. I was always very mature for my age, and was considered a little weird by some of the other kids for actually liking Aida, but I did like it.
The Past Is Another Land / Tekst You know nothing about me, and care even less. How could you understand our emptiness? You plundered our wisdom, our knowledge, our wealth. In bleeding us dry, you long for our spirit. But that you will never posess. The past is now another land, far beyond my reach. Invaded by insidious foreign bodies, foriegn speech but the timeless joys of childhood lie broken on the beach. The present is an empty space, between the good and bad. A moment leading nowhere, too pointless to be sad, but time enough to lay to waste, every certainty I had. The future is a barren world from which I can't return. Both thoughtless and material, it's wretched spoils mock my concern. Shining like an evil sun, as my childhood treasures burn. Shining like an evil sun, as my childhood treasures burn.
Aida is basically saying in this song that even though she and her people have been captured by Egypt and have had everything taken from them. Nubia's spirit will not fade.
God this needs to come back to Broadway soon
This is how it suppose to sound!! The others do not sound like this at all, Heather Headly rocked this!
You know nothing about me and care even less
How could you understand our emptiness?
You've plundered our wisdom, our knowledge, our wealth
In bleeding us dry, you long for our spirit
But that, you will never possess
The past is now another land, far beyond my reach
Invaded by insidious foreign bodies, foreign speech
Where timeless joys of childhood lie broken on the beach
The present is an empty space between the good and bad
A moment leading nowhere, too pointless to be sad
But time enough to lay to waste every certainty I had
The future is a barren world from which I can't return
Both heartless and material its wretched spoils, not my concern

I saw this with my mother on broadway in 2000. Still to this day, my all time favorite! Still get chills when I hear these three sing!

What is this song supposed to mean?
Aida is basically saying in this song that even though she and her people have been captured by Egypt and have had everything taken from them. Nubia's spirit will not fade.
@@madisonschmidt7304 what I mean is why she is talking about metaphors for past, present and future
@@pogigwapo5093 cause shes hiding the fact that shes a captured Princess.
