Wonderful! I never tire of hearing Roy tell his stories and pick those tunes. Roy is a real treasure! I feel truly blessed to know him and get to see him occasionally.
Thx for the posting- My friend James who turned me on to the Rev also used to help him around a bit and took me to his home in Jamaica Queens shortly before he passed, later Annie his wife gave each one of us one of his harps- He was such a true inspiration in many ways to so many
Ian Buchanan, Jorma Kaukonen, Dave Bromberg and some others I'm probably forgetting had that phone number. I saw the Reverend on a park bench playing in Berkeley in the late 60's. Wish I'd had the nerve to ask for a lesson on the spot.
I cannot recall the actual date that I picked up my first album (yes album) from Mr. Bookbinder but I was at Thrifty's drug store in El Cajon CA when they used to sell records and this album jumped out at me "Roy Bookbinder featuring "Fats Kaplan" I've been booked ever since:) Thanks for posting the video
Roy, to those of us in the know, you are as treasured and revered in the present day as the Reverend was in your day.
Great stories and a terrific song, Roy. I still cherish memories of listening to you play at Buck’s Rock.
Thank you Roy, I really enjoyed that.
I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling a great deal of affection for the late great Rev,
Rich
Revisiting this. Brought me to tears. Having enjoyed Roy’s shows when he’s come our way, oh to have attended the Rev Gary shows.
I've watched hundreds of videos on youtube, but I think this one is my favorite. Wow. A great story and a great song.
Thanks for Sharing this story and lovely song ,Roy. I'm currently taking up this style myself and having alot of fun with it . God bless.
