For $190 palette, that shadow needs to jump up out of the pan and apply itself perfectly. But that's just me.

I appreciated your honesty in this video. I think we can all relate to being super excited to play with a new product, and not having it perform the way we expect. I could see how genuinely disappointed you were, and that you were trying absolutely everything to try to get it to work. I know you were sent these in PR, but you continually kept in mind that most of your audience would have to pay big money to get these! Thanks for being real. I know you must have so much anxiety over this being "negative," and I can only speak for myself... but it's definitely comforting that you call it like you see it!
Yes! This is why I prefer non American beauty bloggers and you tubers. I’ve bought so many products recommended by American bloggers because they hyped shit they got for free and wanted continued access. Terrible. Thank you Nikia!! You’re the best ❤️

Girl, did they outsource the lab work to sell in Australia?! That is NOT what Pat Mcgrath looks like, the lipsticks, are jacked, the highlighter does not have an overspray, their is something wrong here..... seriously. And the eyeshadows do play fine with others

Ummm I have that lipstick and the highlight trio and three of the large palettes and they perform wayyyy better than this. Something is really wrong here.
The weird thing is that they sent her the products for PR!!! I've seen the eyeshawdows in person in Sephora US, they should be raised not flat. Please email the brand and let them know about the mold lipstick and bad eyeshawdows
I have the same eyeshadow palette and bought it in Australia and mine works fine. You have to take into account the different textures of course and adjust your technique accordingly, but I really like mine! I’m probably not quite as much a perfectionist with blending though. My eyeshadow doesn’t have to be broadcast on the internet for everyone to critique!
That patch of discoloration is what happens when the waxes separate from the formula ("wax bloom")...it's usually due to heat exposure, sometimes from age. I have a feeling the products were mishandled & damaged from extreme heat. It could've been an OLD batch...but seriously, those palettes have only been on the market for ~2 yrs., so that shouldn't be the case.

That’s a good point. I love Pat McGrath palettes. I have a vast makeup collection and her shadows and lipsticks are one of the best I’ve ever tried. Something horrible happened to this package lol

Nikkia, you should do a Pat McGrath VS a Natasha Denona eyeshadow palettes battle . They are both pricy but I’m curious to see the difference in quality.

Get Natasha Pat McGrath shadows are very thick and swatches much better than going on your eyes.
I have many of both and I would say Pat has overall consistent quality but she produced so far rather dark looks, dark colours. ND has great Sunset, Gold and with exception of two eyeshadows I love Tropics. ND Mattes are good and color range includes a lot of lighter colours. BUT many of ND palettes expire after 6 months and they become then strangely dusty...
Renata K I have sunset. Lila. Tropic. All large palettes not the mini. None of mine have gone dusty? First time Iv heard of this :( devastating if true especially given the price point. Iv had them well over 12 months sunset and Lila. Both perform the same today as the day I got them. I got tropic in the spring and again that performs beautifully and I had them all past6 mOnths. I was really worried about the discolouring on that one lipstick. From what I could see it looked like mold....
@@mgalgenbeld that's what I was thinking, too!! I saw it and was like, "Omg, Nikkia, do not put that on your lips...it's moldy!" I hope she takes most of that stuff back. I could see how disappointed/shocked she was...that is a LOT of money for those products.
Would love to see you use Natasha denona as I want to know if it's worth the money but like I'd need to see them all so maybe a video series where you try out all the palettes would be fun

I have four of the large mothership palettes and three of the smaller mthrshp palettes and every shadow is amazing, super pigmented and blends itself! I did get a lot of mine from net-a-porter though so maybe it’s an AU Sephora issue??!?
Reading the comments, I feel that if shouldn’t matter if you mix the shadows. For that price it needs to be a palette that you can create heaps of looks with or it should be able to be used in conjunction with other formulas. Lots of people use bronzer with shadow and it works with every other brand. Should be able to with this one also.

You werent being negative you were being honest. And at the price of those products I would have been furious if I had spent my hard earned money on them and they looked/worked like that. I much prefer honest reviews to sugarcoated ones because then I can make a more informed choice especially the more expensive something is.

I have this palette and love it. I very rarely use the dark brown though as I don’t use many browns much. I never feel the “need” for a matte transition shade. Also, I feel that shade names on the actual product would ruin the aesthetic of the palette, but every day people in every day situations don’t really need to know shade names, or am I the only person that doesn’t care about shade names?
For her its important because she's a TH-camr? And it's easier for her to tell her audience what she applied.
Although I do enjoy seeing funny shade names, I agree with you. I think shade names are only necessary for youtubers.

I love having the shade names on the palette, personally.. The shade names are a huge part of the whole product and i hate having to keep that loose piece that gets in the way all the time. But I have to, because I want the shade names! I also don't think it ruins the aesthetic. They should just design it so it works with the aesthetic, that's part of their job.
Unless the pallette comes to my house and does my makeup for me the price is too much!😂
I’d expect Pat McGrath herself to turn up and do my makeup every morning for that price!

It's really not an extreme price when you think about the quality of the products. What you saw here was a glitch, PM products are not this low quality.
Maybe my eyesight is going bad, bc I think u blended the dark shadow perfectly! I have to say- ur review is the only one I’ve seen on YT that had trouble with Pat’s shadows, but that goes to show- not everyone has the same result! I will never pay that much unless I was a millionaire, but I did swatch the shades in Sephora,& I had no problem! .... I think u either got a counterfeit, expired, or faulty pallet, bc all other reviews of this, the colors swatched AND preformed spectacular 🤷🏻♀️.. aw.. I would be PISSED 😤.. definitely let them know,& hopefully they will send a better one! Love your reviews, Nikkia ❤️❤️

I think you must have got a faulty palette 😭. My shadows are like butter and very pigmented. I feel like you should get in touch with them especially after seeing that lipstick.
I got in touch with Sephora and they are organising to collect the products to be sent back to the manufacturer🙌🏼

It’s not just you, I bought mine online directly from the Pat McGrath website on a special bundle offer (Mothership I, II and III) and mine are the same. Some shadows have better payoff than others but nothing insane, it was a complete waste of money. Chloé Morello did a tutorial copying one of the looks from Pat McGrath’s instagram and she couldn’t even make the colours look the same! I’m so glad you were honest, love your work 💕
I have this palette and it is the only Pat McGrath eye palette I own so I have nothing to compare it to but I can confirm that I have the same issues with my palette! I thought it was just me!

I did purchase from Sephora Australia. I was so hyped for this palette and super drawn to the green and gold but ended up so disappointed. I had such high hopes!

Hi Nikkia... I bought mine via PM website and had similar experience. Your video inspired me to reach out to them with my concerns... Their customer service was amazing to say the least... They replaced the palette without question. The new one is amazing. Exactly what I was expecting. Good luck!

I would never admit to that here in North America. They would just call me bitch or cheap. Nothing this brand inspires me to buy. I own LaMer makeup and this makes me say “meh”.
They're certainly odd choices for a "perfect colors" palette. Baffling choices for sure. And you can find better formulas of those colors in MAC or Urban Decay.

Margackiss I own a couple Natasha Denona palettes and I don't like any of them. I like the mattes due to easy blendability but the shimmers is infuriating! Fall out is worse than Subculture! I get so upset when I use them that I rarely ever use them now. That's why I was going to try Pat McGrath. But now I just don't even now if I still want to.
Kelly Sykes the glitter in the PM pallets are just not flattering for textured eyes. (I’m 56). They’re BEAUTIFUL in the pan but I couldn’t get them to pay off at all without looking Chunky and with like a small veil of color. We should switch because I’m never going to use this pallet. It sits in my clear drawer all alone as the single most expensive bad purchase I’ve made. Super disappointed because I wanted to love it.
The only purchase I have ever returned was a PMG eyeshadow palette and I tried and tried and tried to make it work. And I just really feel that for that price you shouldn’t have to try 15 different ways and handfuls of different brushes over multiple different eye primers and bases over the course of days to get something to work. Occasionally we do have to adjust a bit with technique to learn how to get the most from new products. I’m so sorry that you had the experience that you did but I’m happy that you posted the video after all of that. Lots of love 💕
Please let us know what happened, if you were given another palette or if you ever got this one to work. I still haven’t pulled the trigger on buying one yet, but after seeing this, I’m not sure if I should!

Mmmm....other than youtubers , I dont know who else would find use of shade names on the palette. When im applying my makeup at home im not obsessed with shade names. I can see their shades in the pans and just use whatever color i want. I think with her particular style of palette it just looks classier.
Completely agree and I just find it annoying when you tubers use the name and don't show which shade they are using. So much easier to show us which one, then if we don't have the palette we can use something else we may have which is similar...

Just because her review was bad doesn't mean other reviews praising them weren't honest. I have this palette and two other plus other products used in this video and have absolutely LOVED everything about all of them.
I had a similar experience- some are dry and nothing- I bought a bundle plus bronze seduction for Xmas and the black based glitters then the really light ones were dry and crusty.
I laughed out loud when that highlighter fell out....bless you 💕 xx

Nikkia Joy I think you may have Nikkia! It’s way different to when I tried mine for the first time... and the lipsticks are freaking amazing but agree there was something going on with all the inconsistencies in yours. What a shame! Hopefully they send you replacements 🤞🥰

I got really excited for your review and YOU did nothing wrong! That’s what happens with overwhelmingly hyped products when they don’t work out we blame ourselves...like u said it MUST be faulty....no Hun the hype is real but the actual products don’t measure up for the price! I’m kinda done with these over the top luxury brands I also Hav this same palette but it’s definitely not an easy quick look type of situation...I wouldn’t use synthetic brushes tho and glitter glue helps tremendously AND I use concealer to prime my lids, I usually use my Mac paint pot for most palettes...hope you resolve the situation to ur satisfaction. Love you 😍

i bought all the mothership palettes available on sephora au and didnt have a problem. everything blended out beautifully and looked stunning. i also own 2 purchased straight from PM website and the formula is very consistent.

I love, how people hype up products just because they are expensive, so they try to rationalize the purchase... Then after the hype dies down, honesty comes out slowly.
Pat McGrath will be the next to drag down in the future.
With this whatev' performance, others still tried to save it.
At least, you are honest with yourself - which is not that easy that everbody would think it - and with your audience - what is kind of rare. Good job!
I have the Mothership V ,the small Bronze Temptation , a few lipsticks and i love them all . I am not sure why this one looked so bad, maybe the formula has changed because the two palettes i have are working nice and i am not a pro.
Honesty is EVERYTHING for us watching. We trust and rely a lot on your opinion because I know for me personally, make-up is not my money-maker, so I have to choose wisely on what products to spend my precious money on. We appreciate you!
I've bought many of your recommendations and love most all of them. Of all things I'm obsessed with Rimmel Stay Satin Lip Liquid in color Sike! I plan to buy like 5 more in fear they'll discontinue. Ha! And that Sleek Contour pallet. Guuuuurrll! I reach for those over my higher ends. I have more I cud mention but those 2 just came to mind. And it oily skin recommendations have been super helpful in my life. Love your style!

Please do a follow up video. The products may have suffered from extreme heat, which would explain the highlighter falling out and the lipstick colour separation, as well as issues with the shadows. However, I am interested to know if Sephora exchanged those defective products - and if so, whether you had better luck with new products. I have that mothership and I have concluded that the lightest colour is best used as a topper. Also, for better payoff, I use the urban decay glitter glue or abh glitter adhesive. I agree that for those prices, all the shadows should perform with ease but I can live with the issue because the other colours in the palette are so good. Ps- I have found that silicone applicators work wonders with glitter shades - just like fingertips but more precise.
Thankyou for being honest ! I thought it was just me ! I went crazy and spent about 600 +on eyeshadows and lip and face products and I was so incredibly underwhelmed by the things I received packaging beautiful but product isn’t worth the crazy high pricetag !!!

yeh.I thought It was just me. I spent few hundred dollars and it was such a waste :( I am not sure why she is even allowed to sell her products in such a price yet such average quality.
I got my palette in the US and it is stunning - no issues with patchiness and the pigmentation is insanely good. Barely need to touch it and it picks up perfectly. Something wrong with yours maybe?
You can use Pats foils (on the left of the palette, not the 4 special shades) as a transition. I found her formula does not play well with others. Use a very light hand and natural brush.

kandigma F the metallics and foils must be used with synthetic brushes. The martes work better with natural hair. Kind of annoying. Lol but I love it!
I'm rewatching this video to remind myself why I don't want this palette even on sale!! I'm over these expensive palettes with basically topper shades for the lightest shimmers! As a very cool-toned person I must have very light shimmers on the lid to create depth & dimension, without them it's a failed palette for me. Indie brands like Sydney Grace are making incredible metallics for $6! I just got the Natasha Denona Retro (15 pan) and she did the same thing; 2 lightest shimmers a kind of topper?! Ugh... I'm over it! I don't think you got a faulty palette, I think people are exaggerating & making them into something they're not normally. Thanks for sharing & showing reality as it is... 🤍
I bought that palette to Nikkia and mine was the same as yours the white barely showed up I could barely blend any of the other colors the only pretty ones are the gold one and the pink one I returned mine!

Mine is the same. I have pat macgrath mothership V. The shimmer is perfectly fine when I applied it using my finger. But when I tried using the brush (wet and dry) it doesn't work like the video. And the matte version really hard to blend and make it look so patchy. And really just 2 shimmer i can use because the rest of the shimmer just not look as good as i thought it would be.
I bought this palette a week ago. Not my favorite!!! I have used it once. I have a lot of palettes, all less expensive, that work better. I was shocked. I did expect more for the cost. Another learning experience for me. You shouldn't have to work so hard, it should be perfect for the money. Thank you for letting others know before they spend a fortune. I love your videos!
I use a synthetic urban decay brush on the brown and it words perfectly for me, the black I use an angled eyeliner brush wet for the most epic eyeliner ever
In my opinion PM is overpriced. I will admit the packaging is beyond lux . What I don’t like about her palettes is that they are never stand alone. You always need to pull from somewhere else to complete the look. I have three PM palettes one big and two small. I prefer the small ones to the big ones at least for the shadows (I hate the packaging for the small ones) sooooo bulky none of it is travel friendly. With those negatives the shadows are very nice and the special shades on the right are really neat. Im not a glitter person so I stuggle with them. I don’t find the formula so spectacular that it is truly worth the$129+ price

I bought this palette recently, i own only two others palettes and I loved this so much.I don't use eyeshadows that often,but i loved how easily it blended,mine was totally beginner-proof (but I've been playing with the green and duochromes).
For $190 the shadow should have jumped on your eyes by themselves lol you still made it look beautiful

I know that his response is super-later. But, I'll share anyway.... I returned my Mothership II palette to Sephora. I was told that the palette doesn't have an impactful color payoff it was their most returned palette. Mothership I and Mothership III and IV to the contrary were saturated with color and were amazing!! Thanks for a great video.
Nikkia how do you feel giving a bad review to a bad product? I know you are always 100% honest which we love!!! But do you ever wonder if the company sees your review and worry you may not get another PR package from them or other companies? I've always been curious about this because some influences must just say everything is awesome to get more.
I don’t feel bad - everyone I’ve ever worked with and every brand that has ever sent me PR knows who I am (or at least should because if they don’t know who I am why are they sending me stuff anyway???) and they know I’m always 100% honest. My channel is here for you guys and to help people make informed decisions about purchases - it’s not here to get free makeup. I’m also a firm believer that if a brand kicks me off a PR list (and several have) because I gave an honest opinion on a product then they are not the kind of brand I want to support. It gets them to show their true colors in a way?? I did however feel bad for Sephora Australia in this instance however - as I was worried it painted them in a bad light (ie getting the products from a dodgy manufacturer/fakes etc - I know they got them straight from Pat McGrath) and as the distributor they are innocent in this❤️❤️

Having to be honest about the poor quality of products from a company like PM must feel quite unnerving... But you didn't hesitate. You didn't pull any punches. You showed your full, uncomfortable, experience! A lesser person would likely have shelved the whole video - and hidden it for fear of reprisal. But you showed every awkward, mortifying (I'm assuming) moment!

Hey Nikkia, I have an extensive PMG makeup collection including the Mothership Sublime and honestly EVERY shade is a smooth, insanely pigmented miracle! The Astral & VR shades from the mothership palettes are meant to add dimension over top of deeper colours but even though the base colour is quite sheer the amount of reflect they create should be so intense!! Definitely contact their customer service! Love your channel xx 😘
Everything is ok with your palette!I have got the Mothership lll & V palette and they are totally underwhelming!I mean in the end everything turns out okayish but it's a struggle.Not going to spend my money on this anymore.🤷♀️

If the shadow is that expansive, damn I expected it to paint itself. I can't stand expansive brands blamed customers for not buying coordinated primers, brushes or following painfully detailed instructions. Dude, it's a high-end product! It should bloody working on its own!!!
Stick with Colourpop. Quarter of the cost, nicer colors & once on the eyes NO ONE can tell what brand you have going on.

Not true at all. The Pat McGrath special shades are way better then colourpop. It’s very hard to find special shades like the ones in PM mothership palettes. I think she was sent old or expired makeup because the palette looks weird to me. None of my palettes perform this like this. It would be interesting if she bought a palette from the Pat McGrath website and then compared the two
Im.experiencing the same with my two pat mcgrath palettes and i just dont know why so many i respect dont have the same problem.. I am by no means inexperienced. Ive tried so many brands i own over 50 palettes as of right now. But these mattes just dont work for me. No matter what base i use how i set or not set it.. I normally use mac paint pot or plouise. I just wonder why not more people experience the same. Or maybe talk about it. Im glad to hear you say the same though. Makes me trust you 🤩
I bought my palette with great enthusiasm and the truth is that I feel that it is not worth what it costs, I prefer the quality of Natasha Denona. I also have 2 lipsticks, I know that PM uses the glitter filter is a deception.

I like the Pat McGrath liner because it is matte, I do notice that it can show texture since its so matte though. I wont pay that much for her shadows. Especially a palette with no transition or brow bone shade! The ingredients are the same as a typical eyeshadow formula and the fancy packaging isnt worth a extra $100. I get her name and all but give me something innovative if you want to charge so much.
You didn't get a bad palette. Mine didn't work out for me either 😬
Looks like she did because the shadows are usually raised a bit from the pan and not as flat looking.

I love my pat mcgrath palettes, I have 4 of her large ones, I also hate that the names aren’t on the palette. I have never had the issues that u have but I do pack & then blend. Also her lipsticks r amazing, I’ve not tried the highlighters or lipglosses. Nikkietutorials uses the highlighting balm as a lip balm

I used one of the lighter satin shades as a transition colour, it looks really nice, you should try using it that way :) as for the dark brown shade, being so pigmented and creamy it can be difficult applying it with a blending brush and use that blend technique, i always use it with a small flat shading brush doing packing motions and gently defuse the edges. Never had any patches or other issues with it using that technique

Try to apply the shimmery eyeshadow toppers on top of a darker base shadow. Ly💙💙💙💙

I bought it thinking omg yes finally and was so disappointed so I returned it and bought the dupe version from bad habit and the dupe version was way better
My pat McGrath palette is amazing and I haven’t had any problem with mattes or shimmers, the transformative shades are something special. All the live swatches I’ve ever seen are amazing as well! There has got to be something wrong with that palette!

At 50 years old and having spent too many thousands on makeup on every end of the spectrum...you don’t get life changing product by spending more. Some of the best products I’ve used are from the drugstore.

I bought two Pat McGrath palettes and have returned them. I have many many palettes and I am not a fan of her eyeshadows. I love Natasha Denona’s eyeshadows much more for this price range.
Oh thank god you also had a bad experience!! I also live in Australia and bought one of Pat McGraths palettes for $190 off Sephora but had absolutely no color payoff at all! All the reviews said it was amazing and tutorials on insta were so rich and beautiful but mine did nothing. I thought I was going crazy till I watched your vid! Looks like there are faulty palettes at Sephora. 🙄🤦🏻♀️

I own this palette as well , and was not impressed , it was ok ,, I agree with a transition shade , but for the price exspected better , I prefer my sultry , even Natasha d I think are better ,,, thank you for being honest !
Her shadows can take some getting used to especially bc you’re probably used to fluffy mattes which I love .. w these you just use the tiniest bit and it’s soooo easy.. but really the metallics and sparkles are why we buy it lol duh
I would go with Natasha Denona shadows over Pat McGrath any day. Natasha’s shadows are in a totally different league-quality-wise, obviously not price-wise. Plus, Natasha is cruelty free and does not have her makeup needlessly tested on animals.
