    and growing up in n.z and playing and watching rugby for 40 years first with buck shelford then fitzpatrick and Zinzan you couldnt ask for better leadership than that. fitzy is simply our greatest captain period. also he had the ability not to get injured unlike many of his peers. btw My father Bryan McConnochie played in the first NPC game National Provincial Championship (NPC) was started in 1976 ,he played for Wairarapa Bush and was involved in the 'chunder mile' which was drinking beer and running consistently and trying not to chunder, although it was certain you would chunder. lol

    I will never forget this guy Fitzpatrick the first test series win over in South Africa
    THATS when I realised the difference between what it was to wear that black jersey to any other jersey in NZ
    They all played till their arms fell off for some reason after all these years I remember Fitzy especially
    They just didn’t give up to the last whistle ✊✊
    And most AB teams have been that way

    Talking about player branding, in South Africa the players are everywhere on billboards and ads, Siya Kolisi is a brand ambassador of Adidas and have had meetups with massive names of other sports, 1 example he visited Liverpool and has a big relationship with Jurgen Klopp.

    ABs doesn't mean much to some players these days as the old days. Jonah and McCaw are two guys who loved the black jersey and would give their lives for it. These days it's just a stepping stone to make money.

    96' and 97' rugby super rugby seasons and international seasons was the best rugby of al time. the best players and the best games ever. however it wasnt because they had fireworks and extravaganzas, it was because real rugby people were engaged to the thing and the rugby spoke for itself. now if you dont get that, then go back to your boring soccer or rugby league sports cos u aint a rugby fan. why has RUGBY SEVENS BEEN SO SUCCESFUL AS FAR AS THE WHOLE PACKAGE? BECASUE THE GAMES ARE SHORT AND packaged over 1 weekend which is perfect for the fair weather friend fan who just enjoys the spectacle without knowing a whole lot about rugby. personally i hate T20 cricket but love test matches and 1 dayers. i dont like F1 racing is boring but they have some of the best commentators around the 'sport' . i cant watch fifa soccer but i can watch the world cup event.

      who said sevens is successful ? way more money in Rugby than sevens only pull a crowd in the olympics in france when france is in the final, 4 times the crowd in the US for a All blacks match vs Fiji than that in sevens

    • @CoolCoyote
      @CoolCoyote 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@xmun2450 people who have been following the analysis from the beginning, what they found is that its quite obvious that non rugby people connect easier with the simplified game 7's I know there is room for both and rugby will never go the way of T20 rubbish . the numbers are there that the 7s game is just another way of expanding the game to the world in an easier way. 15s RWC is the pinnacle but 7s is crucial also.

    Its about buying up the majority of talent in the pacific early on, ensuring those of polynesian heritage get paid a bit more than the other nations they qualify for and then creating a culture and fandom around it so the next generations wont ditch you for a bigger paycheck in a country with a higher gdp.
    That's the short version.
    Note that none of the above is a bad thing. Good for NZ. Samoa, tonga, and fiji would have done the same if they could, and many people from the Pacific have benefited as a result. There's nothing wrong, though, with just giving the blunt facts.

      Not really , these players come to New Zealand grow and live there , Auckland is the biggest Polynesian city in the world ( more than half a million ) New Zealand is a Polynesian country and the people of Aotearoa ( Maori ) are Polynesian. there is nothing between the two they are one in the same, and many if not 95% of Polynesian were born and raised there, and many Polynesian players more than play for New Zealand who are new Zealanders are playing overseas and making pay checks and making international teams , just look at Ireland, or any of the the French Union and League teams, not even going to mention NRL, New Zealand is championing Pacifica rugby with the inclusion and support of the two new super rugby franchises

    btw yes the all blacks were poisoned in 95' by the S.A management team, they spiked the drinks and some food. but Colin meads made the n.z team play on time instead of delaying the game at least a day, he made the wrong decision. n.z was head and shoulders above everyone in 95'

    Georgia would beat Italy, why in the hell is italy still in the 6 nations? promotion relegation is the only way. rugby is the slowest sport in the world for this type of thing . the actual product is the best or one of the best. but they just move so slowly in fact i think the 7s game is a shining light to an otherwise slow moving iceberg. and I blame Ireland and the IRB for this. old mans network, bill Beaumont is partly to blame , but voting him in and stopping Augusta Pichot getting in was the big problem since he would have had rugby pumping.
