Zach- I have done this twice since watching this video last year. I couldn't believe how good it tasted. I currently have a turkey brining in my fridge and will be smoking it over a fire Thursday morning. Because of this video, this has now become a family tradition for us! THANKS and keep up the awesome content!

Zack: you are an inspiration! I am a LONG term Cold Steel fanatic. Since 1987. The longer I've used the products the more I realized that the machetes, axes, hawks and simple "cheap" users are among the BEST STUFF THEY MAKE. But for some reason I don't have a single SF shovel. That is going to change. I've never seen anybody use a dang shovel in so many ways. You're a shovel master dude. We Cajuns inject turkeys and /or brine them/ butter em, shove an onion in the cavity and put dat in a smoker yeah! I use Tony Chacheries Creole seasoning, Mrs Dash, sage, garlic and onion powder...on and on.....I really DIG this channel brother!

Yum yum. So nice of Mel at Fresh Off The Farm to send you and your family all that food to cook over the fire on film. Looks so tender. Great job. Lots of left over's for lunches for the family now. I have to use sea salt. I don't have a choice. If I don't I keep having to clear my throat feeling like something is stuck in it from my throat closing up from the regular salt on anything.

When the smoke from our campfire gets in our face, our tradition is to say "Wascawee Wabbit" three times and the smoke goes away. Must be a Maine thing!!! Small world!

Hot, er, tip. Don't put the bird over fire. Put the bird in front of the fire so the heat cooks the far side. This lets you add wood to the fire, and you don't have to worry about the dripping fat causing the fire to flame up. Instead, you can catch the drippings and use them to make a gravy. Also, if want to flavor the bird with garlic, cut the garlic into slivers and slip them under the skin before you start cooking.
Efficiency-wise, you're better off cutting the dark meet into chunks and roasting them on sticks over the coals. You'll use a lot less firewood and time. Soak the breast meat in salt water and then dry it over the left-over fire to preserve it for jerky.
I'm glad you mentioned birch and maple. Pine would have really ruined the flavor.

It came out great 👍 😋
Do you think building a fire on the side, dedicated
only to burn and smoke the toxins out of the wood and ending up in the flames and smoke that you later eat in the turkey skin.
I suggest you to search it please.
I’ll transfer the coals from the side fire or do NOT eat the external parts like the skin Zach, doing a coals only cooking is the healthy and safe way, one day meal is not a big deal, but using a marshmallow cooking concept to cook a turkey or anything else on every day basic is a risk to anyone, wood is a porous material, once is cut and let it dry, all the nasty and bad stuff for our body is going to be there waiting to be mixed in to vapor and smoke, in the long run is literally poisoning our selfs.
Yup smoke food is not bad for a weekend, but if you life out of the land and you cook and eat smoked food on every day
    meal. NO GOOD.
Hope it helps and keep up the good work.
Love what you doing, and together we learn from each other’s something new every day from folks like you.🙂
