    I love this frog so much! It helps me through the dark days when my chronic illnesses flare and brings a smile to my face. I made one for the 96 year old neighbour of my Mum's (my Mum has one also). The Neighbour named him Ferdinand and he sits by on bedside lamp and keeps her company. She called me later to say thank you, she was bubbly and giggly like a little girl, the joy is amazing! She really loves that little frog so much. Thank you Claire for sharing this wonderful pattern with us and helping to spread joy, laughter and love.❤

      I wonder could you help me? I've knit the body and its very cute but I'm stuck on the legs! How do the seams join up? Ive just got flat legs with strings across the back!

    • @sadeva6532
      @sadeva6532 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@theeggtimertictic1136 what I do is I knit the first stitch and then pull it tight, as tight as possible and knit the next stitch. That will help with closing the icord. The first few stitches will look like they won't close, but if you keep pulling them together as tight as possible, the icord will close and look neat.
      I highly recomment using double sided needles, that way you only have to slip the stitches to the other end and don't have to transfer them. It will make it easier, with tightening too.
      I hope that helps!

      @@sadeva6532 Yes I'm using double sided needles and they are great. I'll try that suggestion but I think I'll end up just sewing the legs a certain amount. Thanks so much for the reply. He's a very cute frog 🐸

    I could not figure out the i-cord bit, but found it worked fine to just knit a long flat strip for the arms/legs and then sew the edges together. Looked fine and I found it much easier and less fiddly.

    Just wanted to let the fellow newbies to knitting know: you are not dumb, the pattern and video are very hard to follow.
    The video does not go over the pattern step by step (in fact, the video does not match the pattern at all when it comes to creating and attaching the limbs). It took me about a week of reviewing various youtube videos on all the different stitches (KFB, PFB, W+Tk, etc.) to then fully grasp what the pattern was asking me to do. Once I understood how to do each kind of stitch, then I was able to understand and follow the pattern.
    Hang in there and don't give up -- it does click eventually, then it's like riding a bicycle!
    Videos that helped me to learn as a beginner to knitting:

  • @ducktaledudette
    @ducktaledudette ปีที่แล้ว +8

    The key to the i-cord is to never turn your work. When you're doing a normal stockinette stitch, you turn the work so you can purl it on the other side, but with i-cord, you just never turn the work to purl it. Instead, when you finish a row, you slide it over so the working yarn is at the bottom (where it shouldn't be for a normal stitch) but you treat it like it's at the top as is normal.
    You can find some really simple tutorials for i-cord online. If you want to add wire, you just make sure the working yarn goes behind the wire, and continue like normal. It's really easy when you get the hang of it! You just have to make sure you pull the first stitch really tight so that the working yarn doesn't show when you finish the row.

    Bought the pattern! First time knitting and I'm working on the limbs now. Not sure if anyone would see this, but how do you make perfect i-cords? Mine always end up very loose even if I try my best to tighten it. I have to sew the two ends together which ends up messy and kind of losses the purpose of i-cord I guess? If anyone sees it and knows any tips, please let me know! Thank you very much!

    I could use some clarification- 1:52 at this point in the video, the pattern says to purl 3 stitches before wrapping and turning, but in the vid you only purl twice before wrapping. Is the 3rd purl meant to be the wrapped stitch? If I follow the instructions as written I only have 12 knit stitches after the short row, not the 13 written.

    I purchased the pattern in good faith after reading an accompanying video was available !
    I am a fairly newbie at knitting but understood armed with both printed out pattern and a video, I could achieve a decent result.
    However, I found the accompanying video next to useless ?
    The print out pattern isn’t very self explanatory either ?
    To be honest, I feel cheated ! !
    I see on Etsy knitted to order frogs command as much as £100+ ? , Is this why the DIY instructions are so vague ? , the designer has realised she can make much more money selling the completed frog ? , which is understandable, but she shouldn’t sell the patterns and advertise the video, then people like myself would have to come to terms with the fact that if we want a frog, we shall have to pay for a ready made one ?

      you mayyyy need a dpn for doing the i-cord, since it has to be slid to the other side of the needle for that. But if you use the addended pattern for knitting flat legs that wrap around an armature, then no dpns.

Don’t be scared be all the abbreviation and codes! Just watch a video explaining some common abbreviations and stitches and you’ll be fine 😊 (your frog may be a bit wonky though because beginners usually have some uneven tension or twisted stitches)

      You probably already figured it out, but learn a basic stockinette with TH-cam tutorials and practice until your stitches are quite even. Then just look up any tutorials you may need for the tricky parts using the terms in the cheat sheet, loads of good videos to show you both american style knitting like in the video or continental, it is a preference thing for how to hold the yarn :) the end result will be the same!

      This little pattern is full of pretty advanced techniques. I suspect she won’t do a full video on how to knit it step by step because then people won’t have to buy the pattern, they could just make one by watching the video. If you have a yarn store nearby you could get your yarn and needles, then see if they have knitting classes or teachers who could coach you along.

    I'm busy making my first ever froggie and am using jewelry wire, double-stranded for the arms and legs. Any ideas for how to prevent the wires from poking out and pricking? I was thinking I could wrap a bit of fabric around and stitch it together with the arms/legs... thoughts?

      I've watched numerous videos on different stitches to try to piece this all together. It will likely take me 10+hrs of watching different videos for me to get this all figured out. My brain is difficult like that.
      I made the sweater first to help me understand the basic stitches and find a rhythm with my tension. (Single color). The frog is proving difficult at the back ridges portion (for me).

    On row 42 you should have 11 stitches correct ?
    On row 43 which is a dec row you don’t have enough stitches to complete the row… where am I going wrong ?

    • @zombiesatemydonut
      @zombiesatemydonut 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Row 42 you should have 14 stitches (The purl 11 to the end is only aftter a wrap & turn partway across - it's not the total number for that row.) From row 40 to 42 (doing all those short rows) you aren't decreasing any stitches.

      Where did you get the wires? Are they covered with paper or plastic and how long are they? I wish these informations would have been added in the pattern I bought… Those wires look quite flimsy . Will the frog be able to stand up on his own. Won‘t this wire break after bending a lot. That‘s what happened with the nose wires people added into their covid masks. Would it be possible to use 2 mm wire instead?
