    Hi FKG,
    Another great episode Sir, thank you for taking the time to show us...
    Firstly, did your Mom know you were going to put lower springs on, and secondly, what did she think of the end result... 🙂
    Many thanks again for sharing these, please take care and keep yourselves safe over there...
    All the very best...
    Andy...
    p.s... I really hate seeing the clean shirt at the end, simply because it is the end of yet another great episode...

      Thank you for the compliments!
      My mom did know. We had discussed it one weekend when I was visiting and I noticed she had a hard time getting in when we were going to dinner. So far, I can't say she is pleased with it as it is a bit stiff. I might need to "adjust" the bump stops a little more. But putting the stock springs back in is always an option.
      As for the clean shirt, a little behind the scenes info... I change shirts at least 3 times in this episode. LOL! It is SO hot here.
      Thanks for watching sir!

      You never know they might soften up a little as time goes on, plus, your Mom is still new to it so it will also take a bit to get used to the new setup, hopefully it will work out for the better, fingers crossed...

      They were very affordable, installed easily, and the ride quality is what you expect from a lowered vehicle. I had never used this brand before, but I would not hesitate to use them again.
      Thanks for watching!

    Good video but I was expecting to see more details about the rear suspension.
    How you made the springs come off?

    • @FunKingGarage
      @FunKingGarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know it is always a bummer when a video does not show what you are looking for, but sometimes things don't get filmed. We are definitely not a "how to" channel and that is why the videos are never step by step. I don't 100% remember what I had to remove, but it was the shocks for sure, most likely the rear sway bar and I am pretty sure the control arm needed to be loosened. (Be sure to preload before retorquing the control arm.) Honestly though, I would say the best thing for you to do is get a factory service manual. (I mean this VERY respectably.) If you are unsure how to remove the spring, you should not do it. Springs can contain an immense amount of stored energy and can hurt or kill you. I will never discourage anyone from wanting to learn to work on cars, but please be very careful and know all you can before attempting.

      @@FunKingGarageyours is one of the few videos showing how to install lowering springs on a Toyota Rav4. I just finished installing coilovers I figured out since I have experience working on my other cars. I used to own a vw and I still have an Audi. I removed the lower control arm.

    • @FunKingGarage
      @FunKingGarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is why I said it was respectably. Being I have no idea what your mechanical background is, it is always hard to advise people. I am glad you were able to get it taken care of. :)

    Thanks for the video. Did you need to do anything for the alignment? New springs stock settings

    • @FunKingGarage
      @FunKingGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do as many measurements as possible before removal and then try to get it back as close as possible, but it has to go to an alignment shop afterward. The local shop that does my stuff did not have any issues with this one. No additional parts were needed to get it back to spec. Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have more questions.

    Hey Fun King Garage! Love the video but got a couple questions as I wanted to do this same mod for my vehicle. What where the torque specs for all the bolts in the rear assembly? I got the ones for the front shocks installation but not for the rear ones.

    • @FunKingGarage
      @FunKingGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not know what they are off the top of my head. I am sure I googled them at the time as that is how I get most of my torque specs. Sorry I can't offer a better answer.

    How's the ride on those springs? We just got a 2018 Rav4 for my wife and she's looking to lower it and change the wheels .

    • @FunKingGarage
      @FunKingGarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a tough question to answer. Depends on if you have ever had a lowered vehicle before. To me it had a nice sporty feel to it. (Make sure to trim the bump stops.) It took my mom a bit to get used to it. It is not a "pillowy" as factory of course, but it is also not like driving something that is SLAMMED. To me, it was well worth it and it looks so much better.

  • @firmbeliever3847

    Will this make the rav4 more stable? I just had new strut cartridges put in and it seems like its easier to flip over.

    • @FunKingGarage
      @FunKingGarage  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lower center of gravity will always make it more stable, but if you feel that new struts made it unstable, you should probably have that checked out. Sounds like you got bad/cheap struts or they are incorrect. That sounds pretty scary!

  • @ROGERDATTTS
    @ROGERDATTTS ปีที่แล้ว

    Love the stance, any idea if this works with AWD? Most kit i see is for 2WD/FWD only.

    • @FunKingGarage
      @FunKingGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know for sure, but I do not think it will. The way the 2wd rear suspension is setup, it has a coil spring that would be in the way of the rear CV axles. I am assuming the AWD has struts in the rear, is that correct?

  • @fernandofuentes4051
    @fernandofuentes4051 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This cool and did it affect camber in anyway?

    • @FunKingGarage
      @FunKingGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely. Anytime you modify the suspension of a vehicle it will affect the alignment. I had taken measurements (to the best of my ability) and used those as a reference to put things back where they go. But a full alignment was done at the tire shop about 3 weeks after the kit was installed. (Same time that new tires were installed.)
      Thanks for watching!

    • @FunKingGarage
      @FunKingGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, I don't know. You might be able to in the front, but with the rears using a non strut setup I don't think it would work.

  • @thetechlibrarian
    @thetechlibrarian ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the exact same suv, how did this affect the ride quality? I would love to do some to soften the ride a little. I would love to hear some more feedback about how this rides and drives now.

    • @FunKingGarage
      @FunKingGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are looking for a comfortable ride, lowering is not the way to go. You have less travel length therefore the springs have to be stiffer or you will be bottoming out constantly. The ride is not terrible but it is definitely stiffer than before. Feels more sporty.

    • @thetechlibrarian
      @thetechlibrarian ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FunKingGarage thanks for your response, It’s already pretty stiff to me, especially in Ohio where the roads are not the best. How about the brakes ? Over the oem set up any better pedal feel?

    • @FunKingGarage
      @FunKingGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ohio roads are terrible. Lowering is not going to be good for you. LOL! As for the brakes. I use Power Stop on everything I do and I absolutely love them. If you go through the proper break in procedure you will notice a day and night difference in braking power!
      As for your suspension, I am not sure if they make them, but an air bag kit might be a good option for a "softer" ride.

    • @FunKingGarage

      As with any lowering job, it is always a bit stiffer. I think I need to trim the bump stops down a bit more, but overall it has a much sportier feeling to it.
