    Hi, I had a 1995 500 S 4 door 4matic car for 11 years. Car was Best Car I ever had, well next to my 1972 Pantera which I still have. I could care less how much mileage the car gets ! How can you buy a 5,000 Plus pound car with over 300 horsepower and even consider the mileage it gets. It was $95,000 car when new. When you pay that much for a car why even consider the mileage ? I got 21 mpg at highway speeds and 17.8 mpg in everyday city driving. But the car had a24 Gallon tank ! so range was not an issue. I have a2006 500 S now which I love but I miss my 1995. I would like to see a video on how to desmog the car, that would be very useful to me here is the US. Very good and informative video . Regards Pat Orlando

      Thank you. I didn't know they did a W140 4matic. I agree I couldn't care less what mpg it does, wasn't a consideration when I bought it but some people seem to be obsessed about mpg.

    Great vids man. Been watching a few of yours recently as looking at getting a project S600 soon. Have you heard any concerns about the new E10 fuel? A few people I think have mentioned it could be a problem in these cars.

      Thank you mate, yes, I've heard concerns about it not being compatible with the S600 but cannot find the source which listed Mercedes V12's between certain years as being problematic. You still have 5 years of E5 though.

    Great video and love the car!
    Did you say in one of your other videos that you have had the S320 before? If so, what sort of MPG did that give?
    Thanks

      Thanks, I don't think I ever worked it out exactly but I wouldn't be surprised if it was far off this

    ive always felt using cruise control is a good bit less economical than just using the throttle

    The car was actually praised for being environmentally friendly, not protested at. It actually won various environmental awards, one of which was the eco junk and dreaded engine wiring harness. Number one reason that keeps these cars off the road

    • @2broken2rusty
      @2broken2rusty  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes in reality it was more environmentally friendly in certain aspects.
      "Reaction to the car was so poor that Greenpeace actually mounted a protest against it on the roof of the Sindelfingen manufacturing plant in 1995."

      there was a protest on mercedes roof because of the big engines being used, it is a fact it did happen

      @@raycroal Absolutely not. Bigger engines were used on the preceding W126, which’s V8’s were far more inefficient and polluting than the newer generation engines that came out with the W140. The largest displacement V8 used in the W126 was 5.6 L, while the W140 was 5.0. These newer V8’s were far more advanced, efficient and powerful than the predecessors. There was the introduction of their first V12, but even that was more efficient than the older V8’s. That was NOT the reason of protesting.
      The protesting came about because of the “negative image” the W140 brought about when introduced. Many people, especially Europeans, viewed it as excessive and over the top due to its large proportions and high price, along with a list of new unnecessary luxury features. They saw it as a step in the wrong direction, recognizing an obvious resemblance to the horrible American barge sedans being built at the time.. which showed no regard to environmental protection or practicality. In reality, these people weren’t well informed about the specifications of the W140 models. It was actually an improvement over the W126 in the exact issues they were protesting about, but this clearly wasn’t known at the time.
