I can just hear Alice cackling at your video. Even though she might feel sad that ANY book was burned. I’m so glad you didn’t like it. I started reading it (because I love Ireland and wanted to love it) but I didn’t even make it through the first 25 pages. Your boys are so very cute. And so is Rudy.
I had spoken to Alice about this video, we had discussed how I was only continuing to read it so that I could make this. I just wish she’d had a chance to see it 😢
This may be one of my favorite videos ever. One of my friends wrote a thesis on Ulysses and keeps telling me I should read it--I think I'll send her this!
You could use sections of it under a wobbly table. Or to raise the headboard of a bed for people with GERD. Or line a bird cage with the pages. Or make paper mache sculptures. And to think that some people actually liked the durn thing!!
Bit staggered by this. Ulysses is the most fascinating and enjoyable novel I've ever read but it does help to have someone (such as people on TH-cam or a book group) to help you grasp it. Surely scribbling on a book because you can't get your head round it is the opposite of what reading, and literature, is about. Ulysses is not difficult to read once you grasp that each episode is based on a episode from The Odessey. It's brilliantly funny and engaging, especially sections like 'Circe'. This video is likely to stop people trying to read it which is a shame, it's depriving you and other readers of one of the greatest books of the 20th century. Its not a standard novel, you have to think, but the rewards are far greater for it. 😊
It’s supposed to be a bit of tongue in cheek fun. I read purely for enjoyment, and really didn’t enjoy this. No literary scholar is going to watch this video and be put off Ulysses, but the many people who try to read it and can’t get on with it will feel validated. I am just one person and this is just one opinion. Everyone is entitled to that.
I think Alice might be slightly horrified at any book being harmed even Ulysses. Looks like your boys gave it 5 stars in a very energetic review. Rudi not convinced it was very thrilling. Remember how Harry found it a very comfy pillow? I would say a very comprehensive twang but you did actually read the monster!
It hurts my heart that Alice isn’t here to see this video. We had talked about it a lot. The ‘destroying Ulysses’ video helped to spur as both through. I’m pretty sure she would have been watching with her hands over her eyes though 🙈
@@GemofBooks Sure you are right on that! I think she would have supported you and appreciated your boldness whilst quietly freaking out at a book being harmed. But at the same time secretly thinking Ulysses deserved it.
Bringing joy out of hatred is a valuable skill the world needs more of!

Definitely don’t do it!! 😂😂😂

Hahaha this is hilarious - love the kids and the dog being involved!!!
They had a great afternoon!! Charlie is however asking when we can destroy another book 😬🙈😂
This was not what I was expecting. Love all of your helpers. 😊💙
The boys had a great time! Now I just need to make sure Charlie doesn’t pull random books off the shelf to colour in 🙈
I will never, ever, ever read this book but ouch! This hurt my heart a little even if it was James Joyce! 😱 Though the boys’ faces were a picture! 😂
You are a softy Jack! Ulysses deserves no pity! 😂😂
I read Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man nd it was such drivel I knew I would never want to attempt Ulysses. Love this!
I think you made the right call opting for the shorter Joyce 😂
@@GemofBooks yes. I wanted to test my patience. Turns out I'm not patient!
This was hilarious XD
😜😂🧡
"Sacrilege!" 😂🇮🇪 😢
But this made reading it all worth it! 😂😂

So just to be clear, you didn’t like it then😂
What makes you think that?!? 😂😜
