  • Little video showing how you can quickly fix the KTM / Husqvarna 50's from overheating for under $6. All you need is the pump impeller from a SX/TC 65 and it will drop right into your TC/SX 50.

How has the bike been so far? Still over heating? I know a new clutch with more oil will keep the bike cooler but I really can’t afford the 700$ and up rite now.

Bike is still going strong. We are at 70 hours now and it’s been good. It has not overheated in a long time, but I think that’s mostly to my son who rides it now and he is riding it pretty hard. Past winter I did all of the Nihilo clutch mods and installed new ktm clutch plates. Helped a little with temps but I think the biggest help has been the fact it is just ridden harder so A- water pump moves more fluid and B- more airflow over radiators. Even in some rougher tight trails my son is able to go pretty fast, not a lot of off and on throttle.
My 2 cents on more oil is it helps if it’s a shorter ride, but once it heats up and gets too hot, it now takes longer to cool off so there isn’t much of a benefit.

@@joshmundy rite on that’s good to hear! Yeah I put in the bigger impeller and using engine ice, but still fluid comes out the lid so still over heating a bit after about 30 min ride. Not as bad as before. But guess don’t help when it’s 100-110 degrees out. And riding in soft sand don’t help so motors running high rev a lot.

Probably upgrade the clutch to maybe a triple grip. Have a buddy that rides same terrain as us and temps he said the new clutch is smaller and takes up less space and so instead of 200cc put in 350cc of oil. And he said that solved his over heating problem. Just have to bite the bullet and get it soon. We’ve been lucky my sons races been in cooler climates.

Biggest issue is the slipping of the clutch. The fibers slip a lot unless you are riding it hard. The on off throttle builds the heat in the clutch. The triple grip helps this because instead of the 6 or 8 friction plates, it has 3 big sections that bite

you can just hold the impeller with your hand rather than doing the bolt thing

  • @TherealRodeo

You could put it in gear and hold the brake also

The SX/TC 50 is always in gear. Yes holding brake should work

Hi, how much cooler have you found this bike to run with this change ?

I cannot give any detailed info as I never took temps of before and after. I can say that the overheating/boil over that we were seeing when she would ride slower, single track trails has been reduced quite a bit. Maybe she is going faster now, maybe it’s the impeller. For a really cheap part and small amount of time to swap, I’d say it’s worth it.

Did it totally eliminate the overheating problem for slow speed riding?
We have A 2018 KTM mini with a new rider that always rides at slow speeds, unfortunately the consistent boil over is making me rethink the KTM 50 for a five year old

@@johnalbaugh3691 it will not eliminate overheating. It helps and using engine ice or switching to evans will help also. More seat time and comfort will also help to build speed for the new rider as well.

Does anyone know if that works for an 04 model when I went to order one the guy at the dealership said they were the exact same impeller and it doesn't seem like on the 04 there's much room for a bigger impeller is this just for the newer bikes
