I am insanely lucky and thankful to have won a DAAD scholarship for my second year of Master studies in Berlin. In this video, I talk about my experience with the application process and as well as my thoughts and feelings throughout.
I will be making some other videos in the future regarding specific topics (how to SLAY the interview, tips on writing a good motivation essay, how to STOP being stressed in interviews etc). So if you have any other ideas or topics that you want me to cover, let me know :)

Surprisingly, our experiences were the same, though my interview was online. During the interview, I had that sort of serious committee member who kept asking risque questions, I felt nervous and almost train of thoughts. Thanks for your tips!
For anyone preparing for interview, no matter how well prepared you are, always try to stay calm and be confident, you got this! Don't crap anything, just go through your application summary and your CV.

My major is public administration/public policy. I worked in both private sector & nongovernmental organisations.
@ummynazla154 DAAD has various scholarships and each one has its own requirements. For example, the one I applied for was a region specific (Africa), I'm sure if you check DAAD Helmut schmidt scholarship on their website you'll get more information.

That's ironic for me! I do my master's degree program in physics at FU Berlin from october but the DAAD's application I have been filling today is for the upcoming winter semester of 2023 (my second master's year) :D Nevertheless great vid!

I have an interview on 16 of December 2022 for Hilde Domin scholarship program, I informed through DAAD portal.
I'm gonna have the DAAD interview next week.

You’re going to do great! The interview committee is usually super nice, so don’t be nervous 🌻 Just prepare what you’re going to talk about, and don’t worry a bit. If you’ve gotten this far it means they want to get to know you. Good luck✨

@@kant760 Hello, is your interview online? I've received notice to attend an online meeting in January but I don't think it's a real interview, it seems to be just a preselection interview. What about yours, is it the final interview or just a preselection?
@@username-xy8fi I just had a face to face interview yesterday. The interview was totally different from my imagination and other people’s experience. I HAD A FIGHT WITH 2 PROFESSORS DURING THE INTERVIEW, others were too shocked to say anything, the DAAD manager had to cut these profs words to calm us down.

I have a DAAD PhD scholarship interview on 4th Feb online (duh!), and I was really nervous, what they are going to ask and all, it's real intimidating. This video and another one of yours on a related topic really calmed me down and gave me a dose of confidence that I needed. Thanks very much! Wish me luck, and let's see how it goes! (P.S.: my subject is Physics😄)

@@biologystudy7985 Hi, sorry for the delayed reply... I have not received the result of my interview yet; I am told that due to current COVID scenario, it is getting delayed. Nonetheless, they have mentioned that by the end of April hopefully I would be notified of the result.

Is this scholarship just for certain universities and programs in germany or just anyone can apply?
Omg my deadline for the "all masters" was on the 1st of December.....hoping to hear back soon 😭 and I'm so curious if I'll have an interview? (In case I get selected) I feel you though on the difficulties of writing a motivation letter... And "I don't like being challenged" 👽same. Congrats though!!
Omg good luck to you! If you've applied for the "all masters", then you will most likely have an interview if you get selected. Just don't freak out like I did! I hope you win it!!
@@simplydew_ Thank you for your kind words ♥️ The curios thing is that four years ago in Belgium they didn't do interviews.... But maybe that had changed by now! I'm even kind of hoping, if I get selected, that they do an interview. I feel like it's the only chance to really truly show yourself, your personality and how bad you want it! Recommendation letters are relatively dry and formal, I don't feel like they fully represent me 😅 I'd rather just chat a bit tbh
That's so interesting! I thought they had always done interviews. I also agree that interviews are the best way to get to know someone, helps with building a connection hahah. I really hope you win the scholarship!

@@annastansfield1317I haven't gotten any news either, no worries! My status is still on "application submitted" - so they haven't even started looking at it, I think... I trust in the process and try to have patience, but I hope they announce soon whether everything was okay with my application though. It would such to hear after a month of waiting that my application isn't going to be considered cause there was something wrong with it, for example 😅 Good luck to you too!!

Hey Dew! Congrats on winning the scholarship! I have a question: Does applying to 3 courses elevate the chances of being accepted for a scholarship compared to only applying to 1? Or is it indifferent? Thanks!

there is a reason they give 3 options. if you are eligible to apply for 3, then do so. if you are only eligible for 1, then apply to that 1

Is the process for MASTER same like PhD in general?
Hi, yes I believe it is in most cases. A friend of mine who won the scholarship for a PHD said that she didn't have to partake in an interview, so that could be a distinction. But I think it also depends on the type of scholarship. :)
I'm planning on making a video soon on applying for a DAAD scholarship for a PHD, so stay tuned if you're interested :) If you have any questions for that, comment them here or send me a message on any of my social media accounts, and I'll keep them in mind when making the video.

I think that might result in the loss of your scholarship, but try to gather all of the documents needed and apply as soon as the application period starts. Good luck!!🍀

Hi Dew, loved your video and your positive vibe! I am a graduate ( I got my Bachelor's degree last summer) and I want to apply for the DAAD scholarship for Master's studies in Germany. I'd like to know, if I want to get the scholarship for both study years, do I have to apply first for the scholarship and then apply for the specific university the next year?
Hi, thank you so much for your comment! Yes you would have to apply a year in advance (before applying to universities) for the DAAD Scholarship in order to be funded for two full years. If you win the scholarship (which you would learn sometime between March-May), then you apply to universities (which usually have open calls in April or June). In order to keep the scholarship, you would have to get accepted to a university. Hope this helps :)

The 2 years work experience is the only thing preventing me from applying for the DAAD scholarship .
I mean .. How could i gain the work experience since am only a student with no diploma yet?
Hi, I totally get that. What I did is I took part in a lot of volunteering events, I worked part-time or worked on various projects as a student. I was always doing something. I would suggest that you search for volunteering opportunities in your area, or write to different agencies or institutions and see if you could get an internship. Even if it is not paid, it helps your Resume/CV a lot! I did a lot of this kind of work the first two years of my Bachelor studies.

Hi, thank u for this useful video. I have some questions. I am applying psychology but the programs that I am choosing are different from each others. I mean, one is about environmental and social problems, other one is about psychotherapy and other one is about neuroscience. so, future of them are totally different. is this can effect badly to my selection prosses?

Hi, thank you for your comment. After the interview, I received the notice of acceptance at the very beginning of March (either 2nd or 3rd of March). :)

But it’s been over 3 weeks and still nothing from DAAD yet? How long do u think it will take? I am kind of anxious while waiting...
Hi! I'm so sorry for the late reply. The DAAD usually does take a lot to reply, and I'm also assuming that because of the pandemic they'll take even longer. I guess my best advice is to just wait. Have they replied yet?

Hello Amira, thanks for your comment. No you don't have to be in Berlin for the application process. But as I stated in my video, I had to fly back home for the interview.

Hi! No I didn't have to send a proposal for a masters thesis. I believe the proposal is only for PHD applicants :)

Hi! If your studies are 4 years, then you would have to apply this year (Deadline is November or December) to begin your studies next year. However, even if your studies are only 3 years, you would still have to apply this year and begin your studies next year (which would mean either a one year gap in your studies, or if your master studies are 2 years then you can apply for the scholarship to fund only your second year (as is my case)).

It was 2020, actually, before the pandemic hit 😂 I applied in 2019 and got the scholarship on the 1st or 2nd of March 2020.

Hello, my first suggestion would be to look for a university. After you've chosen the university you want to apply to, check the documents they require (they almost always have a list of documents they ask for) and work on getting all your documents in order. Check whether your university requires submission directly to the university or via Uni-Assist, and if you have to apply via Uni-Assist, check if they need any additional documents. Afterwards, just follow the procedure in both cases.

Hi! Thank you for your comment. You can definitely apply for a scholarship for 2022. You just need to plan and prepare during 2021, and then apply sometime in November of 2021. @@sonalshukla9447 Hi! It normally isn’t required, but some universities do ask for a CV/Resume. I would say try to gain some work/volunteer experience during 2021, just to make your chances higher. Any activities that you take up will definitely be a plus for your application!

Which scholarship U won? There is no such thing than the DAAD scholarship, there are many.
Do you have 2 years of experience in your field of study to be accepted?
To be honest I don’t remember if it was a requirement but I did have more than 2 years of work experience, volunteer work and community activism. But I don’t remember if it was a prerequisite for applying.

So this would be your pathway to finding the Personenkennziffer:
Log in to DAAD Portal -> Go to Personal Funding -> Click on Application and Funding Overview -> Click on Personal Data at the top (above the scholarship details). Hope this helps :)
