      We got one in the Sapphire color and wife couldn't be happier. Everything feels so much more upscale. Hatch has plenty of room for groceries and the like. Transmission and engine in sport mode is much more responsive than I predicted (and my main car is a 5spd MT). Wife drives softer tho and is averaging 41.8mpg on a daily commute that isn't fully hwy miles. Its disappointing Toyota is stopping this and that Mazda didnt continue with this car in the states.

    Great review. Love cheapish hatchbacks, they have personality to me for some reason. My first was a 1979 Datsun 310 @ 18 years old, and my first new car was a few years later, a 1989 Mitsubishi Precis, $5400! My current car is a 2018 Golf S.

    Four years on our 2020 Yaris LE, 40+mpg overall, no issues at 70k miles. We looked at Corolla but found the Yaris easier to enter/exit, seat height being up inches higher, so we stick with this one. (We are well into our 70s in age). It is a globally responsible vehicle for an I.C.E. engine and saves us lots of money in having no car payment, for travel and charity donations.

    Great review. I do miss the compact cars of the 90s. I drove my mom and dads 95 Sentra around 2010 to 2015 after high school. I liked being able to see out of it being 6’ tall. I really like cars I just don’t like how almost all of them are lowering their rooflines. I drive a 2010 Versa sedan and it has AMAZING headroom and outward visibility. I can get in and out easily as well. My parents 2001 Altima and 2012 civic, I feel like I’m driving a submarine because I have to step down so far. I can really notice in the civic how the windows aren’t as tall as in the 2010 Versa. I’d get one if I could see out of it and not feel like I’ll hit my head going over a bump.

    My first car is a 2014 Nissan Sentra SV and it seriously is an amazing machine. Mine came with the optional touchscreen and it drives great for being a $21k car new. The 120ish hp 1.8L 4 cylinder gets great gas mileage and has good acceleration up until around 50mph (9 seconds to 60). It has amazing legroom and fits me great even with the seats back (I'm 6,0) and handles well around town. I'm amazed at how such a cheap car can be so good and this video shows how it's improved over 6 years!

    The Yaris is no longer Toyota. The last 4 years I have paid attention to the forums and they are not holding up like real deal Toyotas. Idle issues and automatic transmission issues are pretty common.
    I really enjoyed driving a new 17 end of 18 model year. The stock stick shift was straight up Mazda. Short perfect throws. Best part was getting over 45 mpg under 65 mph on the freeway. Close to what I managed in a stick Mirage.
    The interior was a little tight, but beautifully designed. They offered it for $13,300 plus title and license. Under $14k, great deal... but I bought a 15 Scion XB with manual. I knew it would hold up much better over the next 15 plus years. Saved me another nearly $2500, and only had 30k on it. Versatility like few other cars. Fun with a stick, but I am adding a TRD shift kit to shorten the pure Toyota shifting.
    It’s ridiculous the hatch version of this car is only available as an automatic. Kills its best feature.

    @kippaseo8027 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you are interested in either a new Toyota Yaris or a used Scion IA make sure you pick one with the 5-speed manual over either of the automatic offerings. The reason you don't see very many Mazda 2 running about is because Mazda makes one of the most unreliable automatic transmissions both CVT and regular gear transmissions on the market. Toyota mainly uses the Yaris as a way to get you into the dealership in order to upsell you into a Corolla which is a much more reliable and much more civilized / refined car. The reason Toyota stopped building the Yaris was because it was too expensive and the current Yaris is basically meant for the fleet markets like rental car lots. Good luck finding a selection of XLE trim models at your local Toyota dealer. Has an automotive wholesaler I've seen only a couple and they were priced north of 20K deliberately. With the slumping sales of compact and midsize sedans if you shop around you can find a mid-level Corolla or even a base trim Camry L ( not LE) for the same money. You'll not only get a more substantial car but one that is far more reliable it will hold it's resale value much better. FYI here in Miami we still see tons of those old Toyota tercels zipping around town. Cars don't rust here and we Julios love these little puddle jumpers.

  • @2driftlong
    @2driftlong 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    One reason why it can only do 32mpg city is due to its aerodynamics, look at the angle from the bonnet to the windscreen, compared to Yaris 2006-2012 where they're angled virtually the same.

    My brother in law has a manual one in a middle trim (cloth seats but alloys, carplay, AC.) Man is it fun to drive, and it doesn't feel slow, probably the manual helps but it is a revvy engine and it feels punchy up top, also the feel of the gearshift is quite nice, almost Miata feeling, and it doesn't have the ugly face.

      @@HelloRoad It's a shame :/ Mazda makes reslly good manuals. I dont get why they limit it to one bodystyle. Actual Toyota's Yaris is quite cool for econobox. I seen on with its muffler swapped out and a manual and that inline 3 it has sounded amazing.
      But they offer it in europe and asia only. I wonder what will they do with that 4wd rally version once it releases.

      The engine in that car wouldn't last past 80,000 miles. Turbos are a horrible idea for daily drivers. GDI systems are, too. Naturally aspired and small displacement makes the car reliable.
