    Nice! This is quality content, Bjørn. Everyone and their grandmother is vlogging about their Tesla these days, and I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with your Tesla videos, but this video is just damn good motor journalism. The kind of stuff that can really make your channel grow.

      Adam 1 because there are two male end on it, meaning one ends plug into the wall and the other has live pins which can easily be touched.

    Great video Bjørn! This Tuk Tuk driver is a BOSS! He speaks very good English (for a Thai). Very polite and knows a lot about EVs. If this Tuk Tuk had regen, it would have more range. A lot of the energy is being wasted as heat on the friction brakes. I hope the design is improved. Thanks!

    Looks like it uses a 2-speed rear axle just like the gas powered cargo trikes use for going up steep grades. It’s nice he got the lithium battery. That cost about $2000 more than the lead acid.
    I was shocked at the price, of bother the E-tuk and the Fossil-tuk. I would have guessed $5000 tops.

    • @fredgarvin316
      @fredgarvin316 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been living in Thailand the last 18 years. There aren't many Tuk Tuk's left. The reason they are so expensive from what i have been told is that the gov. will not license any new ones. They have been trying to get them off the road as they were all 2 strokes and wanted them phased out. So If you want to be a Tuk Tuk driver you are paying mostly to get the license plate from the old tuk tuk. There are not many around so the price is high price .

    • @imho7250
      @imho7250 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fred Garvin, I can see getting the two stokes gone, but there are lots of 4-stroke tricycles available now. Do that want to get rid of all tuktuks or just ICE tuktuks?
      That motor controller looked like a beast for a tiny EV with a 7.2kwh battery. I didn’t get a good look at the motor but i doubt its over 7.5 KW. That onboard charger was also pretty heavy duty. The cables going to the controller looked huge.

    • @fredgarvin316
      @fredgarvin316 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thailand outlawed 2 strokes back in 2002 and it made an immediate impact so all new scooters were 4 strokes. There are very few 2 stroke Tuk Tuks if any now, all of them run on natural gas or propane but sound like gasoline powered. When the law took affect the gov. did not remove any but they started yearly emissions tests on ALL 3 year or older vehicles. My feeling was most bangkokians wanted them gone as the drivers were very aggressive and would cram in between the cars and make traffic worse. They were nostalgic but the engine vibration, fumes and suspension made you happy when the ride was over. Metered taxis won the war.
      I have never seen a controller like that, looks like it was from a bus or something and I was thinking the same as you about the charger and cable.

    • @imho7250
      @imho7250 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      fatboy19831, did any of the taxis try to gank you too? Every country I’ve been in, including US, taxi drivers will take you for a ride if they think they can get away with it.

      It super costly electric car in the poor country. Tesla model 3 is cheap in your country, but in other poor countries may be around 90% of middle-class people cannot buy that much price. The most popular price range in this country is 4000 euro to 10000 euro.

    • @Hagledesperado
      @Hagledesperado 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Norway is also electricity-rich. And also money-rich, so we can afford the "luxury" of trying to be a little less harmful to the environment.

      Ed En, Thailand is a rich country. Although there are some poor people in Thailand, most people are working class or middle class, and there is a large population of rich and super rich. Yes everyone in Thailand may not be able to afford Tesla Model 3, but if Tesla Model 3 is sold in Thailand by Tesla, it will sell very well.

    I visited Nanning in China a couple of years ago. One thing that struck me was the amount of scooters on the street. Nothing unusual there BUT they were ALL electric. It feels weird seeing thousands and thousands of those on the street without any noise or smoke being generated as a result. Knowing the number of tuk tuks and scooters in Thailand they should be thinking about going electric. That just makes such a huge difference in terms of noise and pollution.

      The IEC connector on the tuk tuk side is weatherproof. Perfectly possible to fit an IEC connector to the outside of the house too and make the whole thing a wetherproof cheap charging solution.

    • @sirdgar
      @sirdgar 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol cros13 WHO doesent like a Little zap from time to time. espacially kids...thats how i found out about electricity...so ure right nothing wrong with the cable. let me have ur kids over to play in my toolshop one day.

    • @LordBlindOwl
      @LordBlindOwl 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Adam 1 - Look at the connectors, there are two male.

    • @cros13
      @cros13 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True, I mean it would be nice to have a proper EV chargepoint with a controller to avoid the pins being live and a locking mechanism. But these IEC cables are used in all sorts of applications including being the standard shore-power connector for boats across most of the world and there are few accidents. And IEC connector and cables are cheap as a result.

    I've seen vehicles like the Tuk Tuk's in other parts of the world; and many of them use really dirty 2 cycle engines. Converting them to electricity would be a good thing, even if the electricity is sourced from coal.

    This is fantastic to see happen? I so pleased to hear also the law will push all tuk tuk's to be electric in 5 years time.. Maybe the fact they are doing this will also push the idea to do cars too soon! With solar and wind and tidal Thailand could lead along with china in the change over to electric transport all doing electric? One thing I spotted in the video was as the driver was showing the underneath of the tuk tuk motor area I see there is still Leaf Springs as suspension showing one of the oldest idea's for suspension is still good now? I wonder though about that tuk tuk leaf spring as one of the metal spring strips is loose it should be up pushed together with the others by that metal spring band. I hope it is not coming loose? Great video as normal. :)
