I would insist on payment every week. If mom gets paid weekly, that means mom has the means to pay for two weeks ..... she just needs to learn how to budget and put aside the second week's childcare payment on the side and not touch it.

I have made cash envelopes, since time immemorial. There’s a “save for Christmas” envelope,” “save for car insurance,” etc, and I _never_ touch them! They’re secretly stashed in the last place a thief would look, but are the first thing I’ll grab if the fire alarm goes off ~ lol.

My mother had the same experience when i was a kid. She used to babysit for our family friends everyday from 8am to 6pm mon-fri and they would pay her weekly for the first few weeks, but then suddenly they'd conveniently just forget. Shed follow up on the payment, most of the time they'd pay the next day, but sometimes they just kept "forgetting". One day she just had enough and stopped babysitting without notice. The following morning, they'd arrive with their child, with the full backpay for the days missed - Mum didn't even ask for it at this point cause she gave up... they just knew and clearly didn't forget!! The rate in Melb for childcare is average 150 per day, my mum was charging 100 per week, they'd be out of pocket x7 if they dropped their child to a childcare.
One lady i remember never paid my mum.. At all. Her excuse was "ohh but i was just asking for you to look after my kid as a favor". A favor is one day, not 3 days a week for the next month. Its alarming how common it is for babysitters not to be paid.

I know of so many siblings whom the parents expect to look after the children. It is slightly off topic, but the siblings often resent having to miss social activities because the parents often shoulder these children with parental responsibilities. While the parents go out, it is expected that one or two of the older siblings look after the younger ones. This has caused a lot of friction in so many families.

Grew up with a parent as a judge. If you're ever going to court it helps you so much to 1. dress appropriately and 2. ALWAYS answer with yes, no, etc. your honor. This stuff just shows respect.
It bothers me when people say "yeap" to Judge Judy. How do they NOT know after this show's been on the air for decades to answer her questions formally. Judge Judy wants you to sit up straight, make eye contact, no "um's, basically, hearsay, talking to the other party, approaching the bench, lying, telling long winded stories - get straight to the point!," and always tell the truth - she knows if you're lying!

Also, I'm a giving person. Also, it was only for a few hours at a time, and very rarely did it happen, so it didn't feel right to charge anything. My paternal grandma kept me without charging my parents however she still had teen children living in her house so she wasn’t having to buy food for me that she wouldn’t normally buy. And my teenage aunts also helped with me so my grandma wasn’t having to not go to work to keep me. On the other hand my maternal grandparents watched me and my cousins no charge but my grandma was a housewife while my grandfather paid all the bills. That's good pay. You expect people can afford to pay someone else a full salary while trying to make a living for themselves? Do you have kids? I'm guessing not. Typically full time babysitters sit more than one child. So two kids is 20 an hour see how quick that happened

Mind you, like I said they typically sit more than one kid a day. So to pay someone ten bucks an hour to babysit full time is absolutely a very very high price. You know people that can afford to pay a sitter 20 grand a year? No way, unless that person is making 120 grand a year at the least. As someone who has babysat many kids before, it is super exhausting to do full time for only $500/month!! Yes she is a single mom but that shouldn’t cause harm to the plaintiff. She should have continued to search for someone who would take the cpr course so the state could pay!

What is it with parents feeling entitled to having grandparents take care of THEIR OWN children for free?
Did you ask your mom/dad for permission before making that child? No! Now you expect them to take care of the kid that YOU made.
Your parents are done raising kids, it's not their responsibility to continue taking care of more just because YOU decided to have some on your own.
I say this as someone with a new born. I would NEVER expect my mom to HAVE to take care of her just because she's grandma.
My mom loves the baby and would gladly take care of her all day every day, but it's not her responsibility to do so.
If you would let you're parents babysit your child for 40 hours a week and you don't pay them a cent, you're selfish and entitled and a ungrateful.
