When I was in high school I met Crazy legs. This was in the mid 80's when breakin was still big in the U.S. It was at the Devils Nest (night club)on Tremont Ave. The nest hot back then. Nobody in school believed me.
Exactly, anybody who watches Easy Roc's solo vids, Overflow 1 and 2, knows he has a huge vocabulary of moves. Mad power, nice swipes both ways, clean and fast footwork, to gainers and good 90's without the hand switch transition.
I know there's a shit load of comments out here but my take on this being an school cat and grew up in NYC during the 80's is that this was a battle of old school and new school. RSC will always be about your old school moves and some new ones as well. Battle Monkeys and Full Forced showed why they are the new school in the west and I give them props for originality. They also were able to work the crowd to their advantage since this contest was in the west coast. Props to east and west.
Battle monkeys won regardless where it took place. Stop the lame excuse of west coast home town favorites. RSC had no business entering this jam with out dated old wack moves
Cool....now was Mr Freeze and Frosty Freeze the same??? He was the B-Boy in flashdance with the pop-lock moves and the classic open umbrella reverse slide aka moon walk. Thanks.
I don't know whether to call this Old school vs. New School or East vs West or what, but rock steady got SERVED. they haven't been on top since 96'. Still though I remember watching EazyRock bust his moves back in the day and boy was he clean. The Rocksteady paved the road for these young bucks, but these guys are pushing the limits and bringing in the next generation... I wouldn't be suprised if the next hot move would be a levitation. Sky's the limit.
Easy Rock has the dopest style. I used to session with him in 1991 with IceMan in Wilmington. WE met him at some club in Buena Park. OG Wilmington Breakers.
okay if you're talking about what happened at 1:40 then super screw wasn't at fault as you could see the guy who did the flip started to do his set when crazy legs muscled in on him
RSC was the crews of all crews back in the day. 20yrs ago, most if not all bboys dreamed of being in RSC. They were the pinnacle of bboy crews. But bboying came back, became global and now everyone is making their own crews and now there's no declared winner. Every year its a battle, RSC light dimmed down, but bboying as an element and culture shines brighter than ever before. So regardless, anyone who knows bboy history has to give respect to RSC.
rocksteady has grown worldwide, members in Hawaii, Seattle, New York, everywhere. This footage just has a small fraction of the entire Rocksteady crew worldwide, whereas Battle monkeys entire team for the most part is in this one battle, because they are not a huge crew in comparison.
Lots of people have heard of Michael Jordan but never have seen a basketball game. That IS what RSC IS. They are the "Universal Name" that everyone that has ever even heard of this art form associates it with. Like it or not. That is definitely a good thing!
Hey NYCityBoy, thanks for the intelligent answer unlike some other people on this thread. The thing you said about Rockadile was totally on point. EZ Rock did an awesome footwork as usual and the guy disrespecting that in a straight-up battle like he did was uncalled for. It WAS BM/FF's day in this battle. I never did say that they didn't win, it's just that the battle seemed biased as far as "home-turf" cheering and certain moves go so it naturally would go in their favor. Peace and Aloha.
Was hoping you would know this....when did Doze, Mr Freeze, Frost, get down? And Curioki(RIP) of course?? My bad on the spelling if wrong, and other inacurate facts, but that's why i asked you!! Thanks bro!!
What are you talking about, most of the guys on RSC's side are from the new generation of RSC, guys who are all in their early to mid 20's. The only guy in his late 30's was Legs, and Easy Roc is maybe in his early 30's of younger.
I wonder what crazy legs said to the guy from BM @ 5:10, and @ the end when BM/FF did that monster routine move he starts picking up people and moving them off the dance floor - LOL. Peace!
you guys are aware that this was a 2006 video right.look at more battle monkeys and full force that happened more recently and tell me they're not bboys
I look at it like this famz....first off I'm an MC but grew up doing all the elements cause you just had to and wanted to....that being said styles always advance....so the smart tactician keeps his foundation of work but also adds on newer developed nuances to keep his work fresh. You can apply that analogy to every element in Hip-Hop.
dude, i agree with you. easy-roc is nasty. the crowd was in bm/ff's backpocket and were hyping them on every little thing. outside of the routines, it was pretty much even if not rsc's.
BM won. Monkeys were at home & had the crowd behind them. Crazy Legs & the other RSC were off sync in the first round. Do-Knock basically sealed the whole battle on his own. Do-Knock's uprock was actually a bit more old school for this battle and in my opinion he nailed it. His signature moves were crisp too. Tensions between both crews like the "disagreement" between Rockadile & that RSCer near the end of the first song which really fired up the crowd. That got the crowd even more fired up.
No offense to anyone, but Rock Steady Crew did lose to the Battle Monkeys/ Full Force. This is clip is from Freestyle Session 8 not 7. If you guys dont believe me that Rock Steady Crew lost, buy the dvd yourself.
I'm sorry to say this, but it's a huge surprise that you're an emcee from New York, he grew up in the early era of hip hop, and you don't know these basic things. P.S., his name was Kuriaki, and the guys in here are not all original RSC. Crazy Legs in here of course is from the earlier RSC, and Easy Roc and Fever in here was from the RSC of the 90's. But a lot of the other guys like Legacy, Flea, and Teknyc, are the newest generation of RSC.
what about the cats (and the chick) in the adventures of ken swift video? bm and fullforce have a cute routine, but they would get torn limb from limb against those bboys... and bgirl.
I agree that time catches up with everybody, but those are kids from Rock Steady, that's not Ken Swift or Wiggles out there. Did you notice how Crazy Legs was playing big brother to his crew and telling BM to stay in line. BM and this Rock Steady Crew look to be about the same age. Rock Steady just got served with that simple and safe routine.
The Crowd went crazy over every little thing BM\Full Force did. A little foot work and theyre screaming like one of them farted a golden egg or something
This is the first time I ever see the RSC get Rocked. Wow we did not have youtube back then. Now you can see the real champs after the Rock steady crew fall from the top.
Rock Steady's old and semi-old generation are all dope. Ken Swift, Easy Roc, SkillRoy, Crazy Legs, etc. But now Rocksteady crew has grown with a whole new generation, but in my opinion, that new generation that got recruited, are not all up to Rocksteady standard. Some are, some aren't, and most of the guys in this Rocksteady battle, are mainly the newer ones, not the older ones, minus Crazy Legs
idk why everyone thinks fullforce flat out won this battle, they had nicely synced commando sets and do knock was crowd pleasing, but as for individual sets in total RSC murdered this shit.
@facuss09 you cant prove that flips arent dance. every bboy including myself put acrobatics in to a routine, which makes it a dance move. hand hops and air flares are based of a hand stand which is gymnastic move. there are many more examples that prove you wrong.
True. The crowd was PISSED when the judges said Battle Monkeys/Full Force lost in the next round. Even though it was evident that they got completely ROASTED by GZC/Flipside Kings.
@release10 In a battle they used to be the non violent solution to turf warz but the mentality in a battle is you hate them and they are your enemy so you have to crush them no matter what
Dude, RSC, i got mad respect, but come on they were toooo old. I was in the crowd, and the hype that was there was unbelievable when this battle came out like 4 or 5th. I think it was the weather delay. but monkeys and force mad respect, even though it was a small ass queen mary.
RSC for life! C'mon people! Did you even watch it carefully ? 2:05 Heeey! Somebody is just rocking you ! and you are doing ..nothing? 3:48 WTF? is he krumping? you gotta be kiddin! do you know that for bboys there's something named Uprock? 4:30 Dude! That's House! You are supossed to be breaking! You guys who said that BB/FF won, should be embarrased.
Holyfiremikey, Legs is of Puerto Rican descent, pls. get that fact right. He's not Mexican. As far as what other ethnicity he is, I don't know. EZ Rock is caucasion, which ethnicity: Irish, Scotish, German, Greek, etc. I don't know.
That's what I'm talking about....cats that were there!! Thanks a million! School these dudes on that early foundational essence of NYC and how that played a part on our culture...how the actual decay brought about the creation of the art.
@facuss09 i couldnt understand the 1st half of your paragraph, but i think we're gonna half to agree to disagree. spectating and judging dance is also opiniotive. :)
@ONEABOVEALL30 Amen to that. Indeed where's the uprock, the floor work? I remember when every crew had their popper/locker too. Nowadays it does seem more of a gymnastic event.....who can do a double backflip with twist and then prance about whooping like a goon. Respect to todays kids for their athletic ability and creativity though, but give me a VHS of the NYCB's and RSC from the 80's any day. Or maybe I'm just too old and envious now lol!! Peace.
what's sad is crazy legs has been head of rock steady for 2 decades and he comes with this. his basic routines should be bette than the best BM routines. I think the rock steady from the flashdance clip would have murdered this rock steady. this crew couldn't pull off that suicide or that mad lockin' sequence (love that part).
When I was in high school I met Crazy legs. This was in the mid 80's when breakin was still big in the U.S. It was at the Devils Nest (night club)on Tremont Ave. The nest hot back then. Nobody in school believed me.
Song at 1:47
Hardy's Jet Band - Frucade Hit
peace
Jaxis96 you the best for this one!
I love Easy roc's footwork, the man is insane!!!
Exactly, anybody who watches Easy Roc's solo vids, Overflow 1 and 2, knows he has a huge vocabulary of moves. Mad power, nice swipes both ways, clean and fast footwork, to gainers and good 90's without the hand switch transition.

....This footage is from Freestyle Session 8, which happened in around 2003, it's not a video from the 80's just cuz Rocksteady is in it.
enough!! aaah i love this battle! can't stop watching it.
Cool....now was Mr Freeze and Frosty Freeze the same???
He was the B-Boy in flashdance with the pop-lock moves and the classic open umbrella reverse slide aka moon walk.
Thanks.
hey just what happened in the end.. it looked like some crazy ass move but it cut off
I don't know whether to call this Old school vs. New School or East vs West or what, but rock steady got SERVED. they haven't been on top since 96'. Still though I remember watching EazyRock bust his moves back in the day and boy was he clean. manu dibongo. cant remember the songs name... try to find it with ''saxophone''
yo does anybody know the name/artist of the song that comes in at 3:41 ???????
Anyone know the names of the songs they played during the battle?
Easy Rock has the dopest style. I used to session with him in 1991 with IceMan in Wilmington. WE met him at some club in Buena Park. OG Wilmington Breakers.
does any body know the name of the song that starts to play at 3:41 ????
okay if you're talking about what happened at 1:40 then super screw wasn't at fault as you could see the guy who did the flip started to do his set when crazy legs muscled in on him

Música,que,revoluciona,me,encanta
Just think of this was the way kids still solved issues and street beefs now adays instead of pulling out guns all the time.
rocksteady has grown worldwide, members in Hawaii, Seattle, New York, everywhere. This footage just has a small fraction of the entire Rocksteady crew worldwide, whereas Battle monkeys entire team for the most part is in this one battle, because they are not a huge crew in comparison.

i love this battle it showed how the new school cats from the left coast brought there A game to Rocksteady!!!! nuff respect.
ey does anyone know the last song?
Some of the guys here are from the older Rocksteady. One would be Crazy Legs. Easy Roc from the early 90's. But the rest are mainly a bit newer.
name of the first two tracks please
Hey NYCityBoy, thanks for the intelligent answer unlike some other people on this thread. The thing you said about Rockadile was totally on point. @GiselaNYC1 Agreed. If it wasnt for them i dunt think breaking would be as widespread as it is now.
song tittles?
its a remix though right?
do you know who did the remix
I wonder what crazy legs said to the guy from BM @ 5:10, and @ the end when BM/FF did that monster routine move he starts picking up people and moving them off the dance floor - LOL. Peace!

You can apply that analogy to every element in Hip-Hop.
What is this version of "It's a family affair"?
In my opinion, the guys in the left side dance better (more original)
dude, i agree with you. easy-roc is nasty. the crowd was in bm/ff's backpocket and were hyping them on every little thing. outside of the routines, it was pretty much even if not rsc's.
who's the guy at 3:20 for rsc?
good battle... shows what new school moves can do in a battle and with the crowd..
plus when you RSC everyone wants to take you out
track at 5 30 anyone?
doo knock's uprock is nasty...dude kills it just with his ups...
Are Rock Steady Crew on the right or the left?
right
The right side. The side with same old boring 80s style.
BM won. Monkeys were at home & had the crowd behind them. Crazy Legs & the other RSC were off sync in the first round. Do-Knock basically sealed the whole battle on his own. Do-Knock's uprock was actually a bit more old school for this battle and in my opinion he nailed it. His signature moves were crisp too. full force dealt a serious checkmate to rsc. Big ups to crazy legs for staying in the game this long. Dudes like 40 now. Props to both crews.
who won?
Crazy Legs is in this vid. Easy Roc from the 90's era or RSC is in here also.
what the song at 3:40?
How old is this video? The reason I ask is because Crazy Legs would not be in his late 30s, he'd be in his 40s right now.
In bboying, or cheerleading?
I'm sorry to say this, but it's a huge surprise that you're an emcee from New York, he grew up in the early era of hip hop, and you don't know these basic things.
P.S., his name was Kuriaki, and the guys in here are not all original RSC. Crazy Legs in here of course is from the earlier RSC, and Easy Roc and Fever in here was from the RSC of the 90's. But a lot of the other guys like Legacy, Flea, and Teknyc, are the newest generation of RSC.
who is that guy? talk about combinations!
ist this thee rock steady crew? they got pwned?
Kuriaki died a long time ago, kuriaki was not in this battle.
RIP Kuriaki, dope dope legendary bboy
Peace, hip hop
is this the old rsk? or rsc?!?!
yes, crazy was the shit boy, great in roxy battle when he takes off shoes after windwillin, they were great days in the 80's!!
is R.S.C on the left?
is crazy legs still in RSC, or is it jst new people hoo make RSC not so legendary anymore?
Great battle
what about the cats (and the chick) in the adventures of ken swift video? bm and fullforce have a cute routine, but they would get torn limb from limb against those bboys... and bgirl.

rock steady crew got served that night
@SIRCHIMPNECK Rock Steady Crew will always be number 1 there is no doubt about that!
@SIRCHIMPNECK
Co-Sign!
When they flipped dude around at the end, it was a wrap!
RSC knew they got smashed!
Track name that begins at around 1:43.
No losers in this battle. Hip Hop Culture wins.
Full Force went hard great battle
idk why everyone thinks fullforce flat out won this battle, they had nicely synced commando sets and do knock was crowd pleasing, but as for individual sets in total RSC murdered this shit.

Ahh no they didnt. U east coast cats are fucking insecure weirdos 😂
the crowd anti rsc or something? whats up with that?
@release10 In a battle they used to be the non violent solution to turf warz but the mentality in a battle is you hate them and they are your enemy so you have to crush them no matter what

You guys who said that BB/FF won, should be embarrased.
but good to see you know who he is
yeah that was a super crew tactic. I'm sure it was probably other members.
Legacy and Doknock are great here.
this is fss8, not 7
Holyfiremikey, Legs is of Puerto Rican descent, pls. get that fact right. He's not Mexican. As far as what other ethnicity he is, I don't know. EZ Rock is caucasion, which ethnicity: Irish, Scotish, German, Greek, etc. I don't know.
I've got the ROCK Steady. The OG's
That's what I'm talking about....cats that were there!!
Thanks a million!
School these dudes on that early foundational essence of NYC and how that played a part on our culture...how the actual decay brought about the creation of the art.
it's new school vs. old school, like comparing apples vs. oranges.
@facuss09 i couldnt understand the 1st half of your paragraph, but i think we're gonna half to agree to disagree. spectating and judging dance is also opiniotive. :)
I agree, the bias is super obvious.
3:23 is so sick
I love how do knock is making fun of them
@ONEABOVEALL30 Amen to that. Indeed where's the uprock, the floor work? I remember when every crew had their popper/locker too. in the very begining u can see cristyle and ronnie all the way to the left
dammm rocksteady got slayed in this battle
