It’s funny because with the way they interact in this scene , you can sense there’s some kind of a history there (due to sheen and nicholson being such great actors). I always assumed/imagined they may have known each other for years, grew up together and were maybe even friends or acquaintances until one went straight and the other went crooked.
I honestly believe that Dignam knew the whole time that Collin was the rat because he stated when they bumped into each other “I run rats like you” means he knew but didn’t have the evidence however if they heard his conversation and referring him as Collie then they have heard
Dignam: I can’t wait to wipe that fucking smirk off your face. Hahahahaha. That’s why Marty cast him. The sarcasm. I love it. Best lines in the film delivered by Dignam. I honestly feel like Dignam especially with that line.
pbdye I’m sure William leaves all the information and about Colin with the therapist and she hands it over! Or he sends it to Dignam before he goes after colin!
Worm is likeable in Rounders from the viewers pov. But he'd get his 140 lb ass beaten at literally ever non casino security sanctioned poker game I've ever been in
I always wondered if Dignam was in with Costello as well. At the end Sullivan talks about Dignam leaving and Costello says “I don’t give a fuck about Dignam” - Gwen looks over at Frank saying that - and he then follows it with “that Irish pissant is so hot for me I give him a whiff of my ass he’ll crawl right in it.”
They did. Dignam likely suspected it was Colin but couldn’t prove it. Hence why he was so hostile towards him when Colin was put in charge of fighting the rat. Anyone that was at the stake out watching Frank with his Chinese deal would be a suspect but the most likely one would be the guy who was there, seems to always be one step behind Costello constantly, and somehow had guys show up to investigate Queenan and then suddenly Queenan dies at Costellos men’s hands while Colin ordered his men to stay put and not pursue. Again he had just as much reason to suspect the Feds, Captain Ellerby, and Officer Barigan but only one guy out of the group had a connection to Queenan death and that was Colin. The newest guys would be the most likely suspects because that’s also when Costello started getting tips. So it narrows it down to Colin’s graduating class that entered the state police and narrowed further by the fact that it would be guys involved with the Costello case. That being Barigan, Brown, Colin, and Costigan. See where I’m going with this?
I wonder how this would've been if Deniro had taken the role for Queenan? Martin Sheen was great in the role, but it would've also been interesting seeing 2 guys that're in many Scorcese movies, working together here, Deniro and DiCaprio. Also would've great seeing Jack and Robert working together.
