Transitions on the Panaroma Bike Path Niederbergbahn (Part 4) - a Critical Contemplation

  • No flivver, no motor and also no noise which impairs residents or nature along the way.
Instead we drive only by muscle power this time along the beautiful Panorama Bicycle Path Niederbergbahn from Essen-Kettwig via Heiligenhaus, Velbert, Neviges, Wülfrath and finally down to Aprath.
This track is the subject of the third part of the Contemplative Velomobile Tour series.
But what isn't shown in the third part, are the many track transitions during the second half of the bike path, which we will focus on exclusively in this video to enable the bicycle tourist to find his way without using satnav, maps or to search for the way and to be aware of the risks which some of the crossings provide for him.
Unfortunately, some of the crossings are confusing and furthermore needlessly dangerous because the cyclist has to cross unchecked car traffic, and the responsible traffic planners have once again only focused on the convenience of car traffic instead of the safety of the weaker but nonetheless equal road users, namely us cyclists.
At the end of the video we show - in contrast to the dangerous planning failures - how a modern and well-designed bike path transition looks like when the people in charge want it.
It doesn't make sense to me why cyclists can't expect from traffic planning what has been a matter of course for car drivers for 70 years: to avoid unnecessary danger spots, to defuse unavoidable risks and to enable orientation while driving with signs so that you can find your direction of travel without having to stop and get off at every intersection.

Super Video . Danke ! Dort fährt man paradiesisch.

Thank-you for showing us these. It is ... unsurprising, and strangely comforting, to see that routes and crossings for cyclists are not ideal in countries other than my own. I should film some of the ones around here.

Seems like a very well planned method to discourage as many cyclists as possible!

Is it discouraging to be aware of the risks?
I would call it preparation instead.
Better than being ignorant about certain risks, than having an accident and complain "If I had known I would have done..." this and that.

@@torpedyellow I meant discouraging by the government.
I know if I encounter roads like that, I don´t drive there, or not anymore.
