Remember these guys don’t have kids, wife, ex-wife, child support, alimony. Advice they are giving is for young or old people who have met responsibilities or have no responsibilities. My hats off to them for making their personal freedom #1. For most of us though that ship has sailed.
Your absolutely right when you have responsibilities to other people you cannot cast care to the wind or your just selfish bum. I just watched a video pod cast with Sean Ryan with John Burke. John interviewed over 1500 people who had NDE most of them said there is an after life where you will be accountable for the life you lived in this world.
I learned most of this from my single mom raising 2 boys. We often lived in very simple places. Sometimes a small trailer set on a piece of land near a house. At one point i had a tent for a bedroom. What more does a boy want/need? In this way i learned just how possable simplicity actually is, and how much exess i dont really need. Thanks mom.
LOL...there are probably people out there that are trying to figure out a way to put the wife on the back and the two kids and the dog in a side hack...lol...where there's a will there's a way.
Others will always have a different story than you. Find your own version of life that gives you joy, freedom, and a story you can tell with pride. If you look for all the reasons you can’t, you will find every one of them.
I understand what you're saying but if you're talking about just making your life happier, it does not have to be on the back of a motorcycle. A lot of people are going to a minimalistic lifestyle. Tiny house on some land. Scotty and Joe are also talking about just get your life in a position where you are happier as an individual. Not just on the back of a motorcycle. Whatever it takes.
Although I camped free off my motorcycle on and off for many years, road life was too stressful for me. So years ago i bought 30 acres of cheap northern forest land and built an off-grid solar cabin. I live extremely cheap, relaxed and my wants are few. I also pursued a writer's life along with gardening and woodcutting. It's a good way to wind things up. 😅
I’m doing my first big journey. Just quit my job of 16 years building bridges and decided I was going to step out of the rat race for the summer. Left upstate ny a few days ago . In Charlotte now seeing my daughter for a couple days and heading west in the morning. I really hope to come across Scotty at some point. Would love to have a face to face with him and get some more knowledge, I’m on my own path and I am boondock camping , but still look up to the old heads and listen to all their words. I believe our paths will cross
After reading a few comments I am not surprised that this vid sparked a little debate. LOL / I never heard where either of you is telling anyone they should live that life, only recounting your own personal stories about the nomad motorcycle life. With that said, I totally get it that some would suggest that life happens in other's lives to prevent them from making the same choice. I thought it was a good video myself, Joe. Scotty is an interesting cat, as are you you. Having lived my life on the road also (be it 30 years as a truck driver), I really get it on the talking points. Great job, bro! Stimulating stuff. Keep it up!!
less is more, less stress, more peace, less stuffs, more money in your pocket, less house, more freedom, less following trend, more following your life, less working, more time for thinking, less worries, more happiness...and so on.....more motorcycling, more freedom, more. smiles than miles. Life's short, start living before is too late..thanks Scotty, thanks Panhead Billy, thanks Joey for showing us the other paths of living happy
I just talked to Scotty in Asheville the other day at the shop . He was there with his new bike . We talked for over an HR . He is an amazing man with a lot of wisdom I have learned a lot from his videos. He reminds me a lot of my grand father .
I know its not an "easier" life.....but its certainly a meaningful life. Plus the memories of doing these adventures......sure beats a 9-5 cubicle job.
I’m fortunate enough to have enough money, my own medical practice, and I have a wife who understands my wanderlust. I don’t have the full on Vagabond drive but I have to take a month off for solo motorcycle travel, camping, etc a couple of times a year. I feel my spirit wake up & become reinvigorated on each trip. I also appreciate the time I’m home with my wife more when I return. Clearing my head and realizing just how much I get caught up in petty bs when I’m around other people is good for me & good for my family/friends/patients. Solitude is essential for me to be a better man in society.
Everybody has the freedom to choose their lifestyle. Family, no family, living arrangements, all of it. Everyone needs to have a purpose, a creed to live by. Other than that, choose wisely. Good video Joe. Ride safe.
I set the wheels in motion two years ago and still moving forward. Fixing up my current house to rent out, using rent from said house to payoff small loan to build another house to rent. 3 more years and I'm fuckin out! Thanks for the inspiration and motivation guys.
@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond I HAVE TO HAVE, my instruments, my surfboard, tools, and dog. The creative outlets are non-negotiable! Fixing up a former linen step van with a cruiser size bike rack on the back to accomplish this mission. That's got to be my minimums.
Always kool when You and Scotty sit down and talk. To this day I struggle with "pushing for goals" or, selling every damn thing I own and hitting the road.
Love tese guys! First saw Scotty on an Adam Sandoval video and was hooked from there. Then saw Joe on one of Scottie's videos. Been following both since.
Hey DMV contact Motogiant. He is in a Nashville hospital recovering from getting his leg cut off from a motorcycle accident. Do an interview. Trust me, he would love to see you!
I lived on that hamster wheel for years, 2 kids... I lived for them........ Not sorry however wished I would have been smarter and followed my dreams...I still have them but with health they are but a dream now............. Peace out......
It's all well and good until your health starts to go (as it will for all of us at some point). Health is Wealth. Don't outlive your money or you will be in trouble.
Absolutely loved this video !! Had a similar conversation with Scotty last year at Sturgis (I think it was one of the videos that got pulled). Let him know you guys were the inspiration to make some life changes. Still in the hamster wheel, just in a different capacity. Hope to see you guys at Sturgis this year. Trailering out from Ohio. Hey BTW glad the little cooler worked out for ya lol !!
Fantastic video. Could listen to you two talk all day. Both inspirational people. Scotty is obviously a legend but I think you’re going to follow in his footsteps and live just like he does. Keep the videos coming! Mark (In UK).
We stopped a store in albaqerki NM. Gasing up and angie said hey is that scooter? Dale said oh shit I hope not I owe him 20 bucks! Anyway he kept on going. Man what if that was scotty? I'd gave him 20 bucks ,that's cool but he'll talk you out of 50 .😅
You're way of life is over if Biden get reelected you better choose what you want to live cuz you ain't going to be going nowhere else there's no more freedom.
People relate their happiness to material things including money. I used to until I started getting rid of stuff and I soon realized that the less crap I had the happier I truly was.. most people will think that you have lost your mind. Thats not a monkey talking, its the devil and he doesn't want you enjoying your life as God intended.
How do you guys deal with trash weather? Do you get beached in a tent often? I am also wondering if you see a lot of people surfing in Mexico/South America, is the water warm and waves big? Have you toured any of the ancient sites in Mexico, Peru or Bolivia?
What advice do you have for a married man with three children. That is a good question, especially if Wonderlust flows throughhis veins. At this present moment, all you really can do is get out when you can.
You asked Scotty why people "stay in the hamster wheel",..... and he said fear. That may be true for a small percentage of people in my opinion . I can only speak for myself, but the reason for me is I have made a commitment to my family to provide for them and give my kids a better quality of life than I had. You want to talk about fear? That is a pretty scary concept and takes much discipline to make it succeed . No judgement here.......would love to do what you're doing......but not long term. I'd like to see another video of the downside of living the motorcycle vagabond life.
