Good review. It was nice to hear someone address the ride and handling from an everyday perspective rather than a number I have seen that seem to think how it handles on a racetrack is pertinent to the average buyer.
Caesar Marrone Very nice. Which trim? I'm eyeing the top trim as I quite like the idea of the collision-avoidance system. I just wish it had a heated steering wheel and headlight washers here in Canada.
senecadream I opted for the base treadline+, came from a 2011 Golf wagon so it's a big jump in power and control. I originally was wanting a comfortline but was happy with the base 5 door options. If the top trim is in your budget, why not consider GTI?
Caesar Marrone I am considering it, but I don't really need the performance since an APR tune on the 1.8 is plenty powerful. Insurance and running costs go up, too, and I'd be tempted to get the performance trim (to get the LSD) that's around (CAD) 4K more than the Golf, even without leather. It's certainly hard to choose since even the base 3 door with comfort package is a good value.
Thank you for doing the video, glad to have your thoughts since I am considering purchasing this car. Just a heads up. The hump in the middle on the floor in the back isn't for exhaust, it's for the four wheel drive version of the vehicle (the R) which is just in the way on any other version.
I am an owner of a 1.4 tsi ( europe). After barely 5000km ( no typo ) my engine starts shaking when running idle. While I find it self-evident that an engine runs smoothly, VW disagree and refuses to fix the problem, even when the car is still under warranty. I'm shocked.
My opinion, The best cars that we can afford in the world are from germany and japan(so reliable) And the best supercars is from italy but i can’t afford for one
I was this close in getting me a 2015 vw golf. I got me an online subscription to Consumer Reports. According to CR, the Golf "spotty reliability" is one of its greatest weakness. The models 2015-16 are bad, the 2017 is ok and the 2018 is really bad. I have checked almost all vw golf/gti/jetta TH-cam reviews for models 2015-18 and very few talk about the car's reliability. Yes, they are nice to drive but what's the point of buying a 3-4 year headache. Shouldn't "reliability" of a car be a part of a review?🔬🔬🔬

Just bought a 2016 Golf - S...I'm lovin it!😀
I absolutely loved this review. you could use a better quality camera to provide 1080p, but I appreciated the in depth review.
One of the better reviews, thanks a lot... Looking at the 2016 model and this helped answer some questions I had.
+Caesar Marrone I suspect the 2017 model should be out in the summer, which could mean a better deal on a '16.
senecadream I ended up buying a 2016, loving it. 👍

I was looking towards buying a Golf 1.4TSI but there seems to be warning signs all over about its reliability.
