- In this video I talk about the Dark Souls game that's actually worth being called a "Dark Souls" game. That's the original.I don't think FromSoftware have ever been the best at making sequels, they truly shine with new IPs. Some examples are, Elden Ring, Sekiro and Bloodborne. Dark Souls 1 is amongst the ranks of those games.

Dark Souls 1. I played three first and wasn't too keen. I'm an exception to that theory.
The most fun for me is DS3. It's been hard for me to come back to DS1 after the quality of life improvements in later titles.
DS3. It is almost unfair to the other games how good this game is.
Dark souls 3 because I like the combat more and boss fights being really fun
Dark souls 2 is my personal favorite one because it’s how I got into the game so it holds a special place in my heart.

I mean, Dark Souls 2 has power stancing, hexes and majula. That's gotta amount to somethingz right?

Dark souls 1 is the perfect example of 'a game doesnt have to be perfect to be perfect'
Its seriously flawed, even with the remaster that fixed the port issues of PTDE, but its still an amazing game, much better than DS3 honestly.
The only good thing about that are the boss fights, the rest of the game is just a bland surface level rehash of the original. Even dark souls 2 i can respect more because while its a lot less fun to play, its a lot less generic aswell.
Poor ideas and execution is preferrable to blandness
I will take blandness over trash gameplay any day now. ds1 is way too slow for me.

I disagree a lot on the ds3 part while a lot is referenced in ds3 most of the stuff in ds3 is new and not rehashes , areas are “new” locations usally with mostly good level design there just not connected
Dark Souls doesn't have flaws. I played it from beginning to end and loved every second. You were just ruined by the sequels and Bloodborne.
@@josephbulkin9222 Lost izalith could have been great but it ended up being a lot of missed potential, the bed of chaos especially.
I'd consider at minimim, those to be flaws.

At 15:54 I got tired of dying so I entered the arena and just spammed light attacks and it worked
the lack of music in dark souls is the most underrated thing ever. im playing through sekiro at the moment and i turned the music down. it was annoying to me that every enemy give this stressful music. otherwise sekiro is perfect
One thing about bosses in Dark Souls, we can cut tails ! I must be honest, most player dont like to kill Sif and Priscilla ( cute bosses are the hard ones ).
I wonder why a series about repeating the same cycle of the Age of Fire would have rehashed/referenced locations by the 3rd game? 🤔🤔🤔
Very good video 😁 I played the first game until the halfpoint and couldn't get past the two bosses. I think the runbacks are what turned me off. Still a very good game though

My friend went down that path in ds1 with the skeletons too. And now it all makes sense. He always got one shot so he took all his armor off and very casually dodged every single attack and proceeded to beat the game 💀
I played 1 first and quit when at the first boss, I couldn't believe they expected me to beat that thing. I tried 2 on a whim while in University and fell in love and went on to beat all the games in the soulsbourne series SL1. But to be fair all I played was cod and halo back in my school days so there was no chance for me then.

I call Dark Souls 3 "Delayed Souls 3" because of the numerous delayed enemy attacks, and the input delay. All of that delay throws me off, which is especially frustrating during the tougher/endurance fights.

1 is hands down my favourite because after playing through each game multiple times, I can always remember the entire world, enemies, bosses, and weapons of 1 whereas the other games I forget things or more accurately repress the memories (I'm looking at you ruin sentinels, what a shit boss lmao).

You kinda hit the nail on the head, basic hollow enemies in DS1 move like....well shambling corpses, they're not fast or strong and, can only really get you if you let yourself get cornered or, aren't paying attention to one on the upper levels throwing fire bombs, DS3 basic hollow enemies move like a Kyle, from Florida, juiced on every pre workout known to man, is it harder? Yes but, objectively it takes away from their frail, rotted, visual design, I think Elden Ring did a pretty good job at having basic enemies move like slow shambling zombies but, sprinkling in elite enemies to keep you on your toes
Dark Souls 1 has always been my favorite too. People always look at me like I'm taking crazy pills when I say this. Best atmosphere, best exploration, and hot take! But I actually like the slow combat a lot! I admit DS3 has the best bosses overall, but DS1 is still the best complete package IMO.
Also when people say the 2nd half of Dark Souls is bad, I think that's a massive exaggeration, because I only think the 2 lava areas are bad, which probably make up like less than a third of the game. I actually liked the Duke's Archives, and Anor Londo is GOATed, which counts as the 2nd half of the game I think. It's a pretty late area. The snow painted world was mid tho, but I wouldn't call it bad. So only underwhelming areas IMO are 2 lava area's and snow area(which is super optional hidden area anyway).
Can't think anything good about DS2? I say one thing: Power Stance!
I love all of them. DS1 is still unmatched… just has that vibe and creativity that has yet to be replicated
Bloorborne and Sekiro are both perfect. Not without flaw but they're perfect. Dark souls 3 was the most fun for me out of the series. I haven't been able to finish dark souls 2 yet becacuse it feels so clunky and im not good. I've just recently started Dark Souls 1 and I really love the world design and atmosphere, but i keep going to the wrong places and it's kinda frustrating. Understandably it's the first game but the combat also just doesn't scratch that itch the same way ds3, bloodborne, sekiro and elden ring do
People who defend bad ds1 combat are just used to how it feels. They can't unlearn the game to realise how much of a downgrade it is to literally every other fromsoft game (which makes sense being one of the first ones).
Even 4 directional rolling is a big enough turn off for most new soulsborne players.

I honestly completely agree . For me no other fromsoftware game managed to capture Dark Souls' magic . I think I like Bloodborne more as it has pretty good level design as well(not as good as Dark Souls ,but still) and great combat and bosses. I've completely accepted that there will be no experience like Dark Souls. The only game I've played that I think can clash with Dark Souls in terms of level design is Resident Evil 2 Remake.
They're all good. DS3 in a lot of ways is better than DS1.
Dark souls 1 is great. Was my 1st and with 700 hours in from the past 10 years it still hasn’t gotten old. Loved it so much I NG+7 it. I think the bosses are all good to great except the witch of izaleth. To me it’s perfect, even the second half, despite izalith being very obviously incomplete
for me Sekiro was the first soulslike I played, Steelrising was the first I ever finished, and Dark Souls 1 was the 1st FromSoft game I finished

Excellent clickbait, excellent video. I definitely disagree with you about the bosses. If you look at them as stepping stones toward what bosses would become in later Souls and Souls-like games from Fromsoft, they range from meh to good. But looking at Souls 1 on its own, I feel like most of the bosses cap off their respective levels really well.
Of the “bad” bosses, I especially like Sif and Capra. I also sorta like the Bed of Chaos after many runs, but I won’t seethe and cope, I can acknowledge it’s an abysmal fight especially on a first run.
Dark Souls 1 has memorable characters and bosses even though I've never finished it and played it less compared to DS2 and DS3
Ds3 and ds2 are good too imo but for diffrent reasons more so ds3 it has the best combat and bosses only thing that ds1 has better imo is the overall atmosphere and levels

I would really love and probably be a little obsessed with Dark Souls 1 because there's so much depth and nuance to the story and implications, the serpents might be trying to take over now the dragons and gods are dead, Ornstein and Smough are the hardest bosses because they're the new power in the world as the old gods are just shadows of what they were, the endings can be interpreted in multiple ways in a really complex political way, but then the sequels came out and swept all the nuance away and said this is definitely what happens next. So they literally ruined the really good story of the first one for me and so I've only played it once. Which is why I think people who want a sequel to Bloodborne or any SoulsBorne game are fucking idiots.

Imo FromSoftware have never made a sequel with proper time ds3 Had Miyazaki step in like a quarter into development if they had it planned or decided to do it now they could probably do it good ds3 is good but obviously had to be rushed to a certain extent
I mean, DS3 definitely has better music and boss fights but okay. DS1 is the best though
I think it depends what type of souls exprince u like lol some people like bloodbourne and ds3 style of game and some prefer ds1 and Elden rings more expansive worlds

the souls series are full of opinions.
Sekiro is the first one i played and i loved it. theres no such thing as “i AccIdEntlY oVerLEvelEd”. even if you have more hp and posture because of killing minibosses, everyone will be using the same build and the same damage at a boss. everytime i finnish a boss i feel so satisfies its insane. learning every move and how to counter it. like how when you see isshin walk slowly to your right he WILL do a thrust attack, or after gennichirou do a jump attack its either thrust of sweep (while its all thrust in phase 1), or for loneshadow (burning hirata estate) when he jump back he will call on wolves and can be interupted with projectile, etc etc.
so i went to dark souls HOPING for that experience. i dont really care about exploration or anything like that as long as the bossfight is the highlight that i LEARN. and….meh most bosses i kill without actually learning it’s moveset. then i realise dark souls isnt that type of game. and the community judging every single decission you make is more annoying.

- “oh you use (name of a good weapon), you have no right to judge this bossfight as easy”
- “i cant believe you use summons” (this mostly elden ring)
- “you levelled too much vigor”
- “you use (name status ailment like bleed or frost or anything) this boss is weak to that. thats why you feel its easy”
sometimes I wonder why fromsoft added too much of these stuffs when they know full well they suck at ballancing them.

I'm a dark souls 3 simp simply because it has the most fun fights for me I found dark souls 1 bosses kinda boring and easy I don't really care much for level design but with that said it still my 3rd favorite game of all time with dark souls 3 being my first and blood borne being my 2nd

seems like nostalgia goggles to me. Anything past anor londo is ass, blight town is ass, going trough the catacombs, ass, sewers, ass, needing to reach anor londo for fast travel, ass, capra demon with dogs major ass and i can keep going.

Dark Souls 1 was such a dissapointment honestly. The bosses are so easy it doesnt even feel like a fromsoftware game. All that buildup just to give me some fucking Gwyn with 2k hp that i kill first try using 1 estus?

@@Atlisnail Games dont need to be hard thats true. But dark souls is build around being hard. Main point of the game are bosses. I still think the game was good but it aged extremly poorly when it comes to boss designs
@@aliwojciak3525I think the game is more concerned with its themes and story (not plot, story) than it is with bosses. I also think it’s more concerned with levels/level design than bosses. Just my opinion obviously, but I think “the game is about being hard” seems so reductive.
