I agree with all of your points. It may be a small thing, but nobody talks about (except you) the included case is a big deal. It sucks buying a $400-650 console and then having to buy a case separately. I think they took into account was shipping costs and packaging and included the case as part of the packaging- kinda genius!
Yeah, I agree. Having the case included as part of shipping was awesome (you're paying for packing anyway). Multiple trips at this point and the case is awesome. Really glad they made it a part of the purchase price.
Totally agree! I don't miss that newborn stage and wish I had this during that time, would have made going off of a few hours of sleep a bit easier, lol.
The calculator says I’ll get mine June 6th which I’m pretty sad about since that’s quite a while away I hope I can get mine early too I’m just dying to bring this thing everywhere I go. Also I’ve seen someone else say they’ve got there’s 25 days early I hope that’s the case for me
The SD card cover right now an not using the slot, so I just put a small piece of tape until I fill up my ssd. Then I'll take the tape off to insert a card. Am not so much into action games. Playing lots of AA , indies and emulators on it for now so not using too much space. Overall positive review thanks for sharing!
Honestly as a 22 year old father of one going on two kids my TV time is decreasing alot so I'm really thinking about getting a steam deck one day cause if my son is not watching TV my wife is
Yeah, during those first 6 months with my daughter, my game time was maybe a few hours a week at best (and usually when she was sleeping). I wish I had the Steam Deck during that time.
I’m slated to get mine around Q3 (after October)..first games I’m putting on there is #1…God of War(2018), Dirt series and Arkham city/Origins…btw, I’m 52 and a longtime gamer, I’ve just slowed down a bit with work and a 10 year old Fortnite junkie..lol
So would you say if you have a good gaming desktop and a switch there isn't much of a need for a Steam Deck? I think being a Dad has meant that a desktop rig is obsolete but handhelds aren't: 1) you get a honey-do every 10 minutes or 2) need to help kids with something/watch them or 3) need to clean something.
It really depends. I use my PC more for work than I do gaming right now so the Steam Deck has been useful to get more gaming in during times I normally wouldn't have been able to.
Like you say..Busy Dads..I usually walk around the house with my Switch in my comfy shorts pockets , I gotta get my gaming fix , even if it’s only for 15 minutes, I’ll have to buy bigger shorts? lol
At first I was kinda sad about the battery life but at the same time I really don't want to add anymore weight to the unit and it's super easy to bring a battery bank. Also my unit is not as loud as earlier examples so I think they've changed something recently. It arrived may 7th and is a 512 model
They updated firmware to run more efficiently with the fan. It doesn't ramp up as high under running temps. It leads to a little bit of increase in temp but nothing that would be hot to the touch or damage the components.
What Tyler mentioned. The new update does adjust the fan curves, but when the unit is full tilt, it's still pretty loud. Digital Foundry came out with a video regarding it as well.
Is it just me or does this tech seem expensive for what it is? I didnt mind paying for my series x because I understood the quality and the capabilities. Problems with noise, battery life? I think I'll wait for version 2
The 64GB is the only one that makes sense the higher end models are pointless since you can buy an SSD for way cheaper also $399 is perfectly priced since steam games are cheap also this is a portable pc just look at the other portable PCs they cost 3x the price
@jose rodriguez I actually do but at the end of the day to me it's a portable gaming system. I think a portable gaming system should have more than 2 hours play time for the battery and it should be quiet, I mean you can't lay in bed next to your wife or sit in a dentist office with a loud fan blowing I mean that just doesn't make sense but it is what it is.
@@joeblow8893 there's no doubt that it's good my question was shouldn't it have more battery life than 2 hours if you're taking it to Dentist office, DMV, commuter train from work etc? And shouldn't it be quiet for that much money?
Have you pre ordered or received a steam deck? What are your thoughts on it?
Awesome! Mine didn't change status so it was weird. From a pre order perspective, the communication could have been better.
Have a 256 gb model coming q3. I'm drooling over being back into handheld gaming for the first time since the OG Nintendo DS
Still waiting....

As a busy dad with a newborn, the SD is the holy grail of portable gaming for me right now.
Totally agree! I don't miss that newborn stage and wish I had this during that time, would have made going off of a few hours of sleep a bit easier, lol.
Finally, a Dad with a family review of this. Thank you!
When did you reserve your SD?
My pleasure! I reserved it as soon as pre-orders opened so it was back in July of last year.
Another great video. Finally received my SD and I’m enjoying it so far. Will you be doing a update video on the steam deck?
Awesome, glad you're enjoying it! I will at some point, but def want more games available.
Haha your daughter stole the show personally. Great review I'm excited to get my hands on this device ^^
Lol, thanks! Yeah, she likes to dive in and change things up. My pleasure and let me know your thoughts when you get yours.
Thank you for your review, feeding my obsession. With the steam deck
Happy to help and thanks for watching!
The video would've been better without all the commercial footage, but with you actually using the Steam Deck.
I appreciate the feedback and great point. Came down to time availability so made do.
waiting on mine to ship now... actually got it 25 days earlier than the calculator told me
That's awesome. I've noticed they have shipped earlier than scheduled so I'm glad you're able to get it faster.
When did you reserve and what model?
I reserved them as soon as they went live last year. I went with 256gb model so I had faster storage.

I agree, tape would work to cover the SD slot if not being used. I have one in just to have although I'm not actively using it. Thanks for watching!
Just emulation alone is worth it
Can't wait for mine
I just wanna play RDR1 through Xbox 360 emulation tbh
I haven't gotten to that part yet, but it's on the list.

I recently became a dad and this reason alone is why I’m aiming for the steam-deck as a way to have that “Me time” as well.

Lol, makes sense.
I'm already using an SD card on mine since I can only get 3ish games on the internal drive.
Thank you for the review
My pleasure, thanks for watching.

Update: did some research, I never knew that steam has over 30k games, classics and todays, ordered mine one! 😂👍🏽✌🏽
Yep, Stream has a ton of games and im around 150 at this point. I ran out of storage (even with an sd card) before I ran out of games to play.

The first game im playing on the steam deck is caeser 3

Oh, it's def more portable (and possibly more powerful) than a laptop. It's been nice having while traveling.

I would imagine so.
Yes.
Agreed.
I heard Valve relase update help fan noise
I have the latest stable release and I didn't notice a difference, but I will def welcome an update for that.
yes
Thanks for watching!
Great video, no interest in buying steam deck, im very happy, with my switch oled, Go RAIDERS!
After getting the Steam Deck, I haven't played my Switch that much. I'm sure once Xenoblade comes out that'll change tho. Go Raiders!
