Great to see the possibility of the Y/T channel coming back. I started my electronics/audio learning from this channel, and have become relatively self sufficient in operation, troubleshooting and repairs. Look forward to interesting projects here, happy new year Mark!
Good for you! A listening room is a wonderful thing to have. Glad life is treating you well, it sure is nice to spend more time smiling than frowning isn't it? Nice to see the old turntables, back in the '70's at a college radio station we had two RCA monster turntables with Shure tonearms and Stanton 681EEE cartridges. Slip and back queuing with one hand, running the mix board with the other. Juggle two of those and a few Spotmaster cart machines and things could get downright busy. Great fun. Those old Stanton cartridges weren't the best audiophile grade ones, but they had the mechanical strength to handle the tight back and slip queuing done in broadcasting. My nice Ortophon stuff would have been destroyed in a few hours or less!
13:58 Thank you for the shoutout on the patch panel! The dummy load at my bench was inspired by one of your early videos so glad I was able to “pay you back” a bit. Your benches look great! Love the Tek mainframes.
To be honest, I had no idea they made keystone jacks for all these inputs, otherwise I "may" have dreamt this up sooner. Thanks for your video, it did inspire me. I don't work with a lot of XLR so going to solve that otherwise but the patching to devices is genious.
Nice to have an update on what’s going on in the new Blueglow barn. It looks awesome and so neat and tidy. You must be a magician or wizard to keep up with your day job and have a space that is so organized. Maybe it will give me the kick I need to clean up my own basement. Happy new year.
Happy New Year Mark . You helped Me out 8 Years ago or so with My Reel to Reel . Bought in Germany I 1979 and it's still going g Stro g . Enjoy Your New Years with the Family
Great update Mark! Lots of interesting projects that I’m looking forward to seeing. You’ve inspired me to dig out an old 1958 Realistic Mark 7 broadcast turntable and tonearm that I’ve had stored away for years. Happy New Year!
Recorded and mixed many albums on 604Es, many with Mastering Lab custom crossovers (you will like them), some with an additional woofer. One of the best was a single speaker ported set in Studio 1 at Sunset Sound Hollywood sized very similar to yours. Those tracks played everywhere brilliantly and were used to set up many systems. Lovely, detailed sound. Miss making music on em. (We also cut out the divider cells in the tweeters on most of the systems which I don't think anyone would have the guts to do at this point)
Nice video, enjoyed it. I am also a ham and a hobby tech on rf and audio. Many projects here as well. Like them turntables. I have a bauer 707 that I put on 80m and have a 5kw collins 20e that is in the works
Loved at the look at the "behind the scenes" of your hobby as I'm sure many of us share the same interests of the listening side of things. And it's refreshing to see something other than the workbench projects sprinkled in every now-and-then (mind you, occasionally, LOL). Happy New Year to All!
Great hearing from you! You obviously do NOT suffer from Adult ADD syndrome! You’re accomplishing enough stuff for two people. Really like the videos thanks!
So great to hear from you and I can see you've been busy! You seem to have so many projects on the go, it is obvious you are having a ball! Each of the projects you've shown us here look so interesting, I would be extremely grateful for you to take us down the rabbit hole on any one of them. I'm also glad you get to spend time just listening to music or noodling on guitar. The closer I get to the music, the less pull I have to tinker further and that is surely the point of this hobby! Wishing you a happy and prosperous 2025, Mark.
Hey Mark. I remember seeing two Fairchild broadcast turntables way back in 1977 or 78. They were from a San Francisco radio station. - Surplus sale. As I remember. The had a large (25 pounds?) flywheel in the cabinet below and a driveshaft to the platter above. It was somehow clutched to engage - disengage the platter. Because the flywheel was always at speed, when engaged, the platter would go from a from a dead stop to 33 and 1/3 RPM in less than 1/2 of a single revolution . I would imagine that the WOW and Flutter would be very low because of the inertia of the flywheel. I have always wanted one of these because of that design. Now that I have moved from Washington state to Tennessee, I hope to see you picking tubes at the Shelby Hamfest !
Awesome preview of what is to come! Mark, I have to admit your hamfest walk through videos have inspired me to go to the Dayton hamvention this year and I can not wait. I have not been since I was probably 13 or so which was way back in the mid 80's when my dad was active as a ham.
You are one of a handful of my 100+ subscribed channels that I get excited when I see a new video. Your content never disappoints. Your calm, easy demeanor makes for an enjoyable visit. Take care and keep doing what you’re doing! Happy New Year!
Anyway, I wanted to also say, Happy New Year to you and yours. Glad that you are finally getting the listening room that you've always wanted. It's either that, or a vintage Ford Fastback, and I like the choices that you've made. Best to you and your family...
Happy New Year! So many projects, can’t wait to see future videos! Here in my little hideaway (the small Isle of Anglesey, or “Ynys Mon” to us Welsh) there’s a tiny fraction of anything interesting HiFi-wise to buy that you see, but I do have a few completely DIY projects for 2025…a couple of tonearms (three if I can work out the design), speakers, valve based phono/RIAA stage and some KT88 monoblocks - should keep me busy (oh, and if I don’t run out of time, another turntable). But then, I have retired and I can wholeheartedly recommend it!
Great video Mark love the gear I got JE labs 2a3 tube that I love and I love the turntable s got a vintage thorens td 124 that I had restored to play my mono Jazz records from the 50s and I love the vintage speakers keep bringing more to us, And I enjoy your pass video with Dennis Had I have his line and phono preamp he designed years ago which are with me today and playing great music, Happy New Year Ed in Brooklyn New York Happy listening and many blessings 🙏🎶🎵🎊🎉🎄
Dang Mark, your giving JE a run for the most goodies! I also have a pair of Early's new horns that I need to get some of my CDs on and begin testing. Same ole' problem, too many projects, not enough time! Dan
Been watching your videos for years and I had no idea you were also into bourbon. Hope you picked up a Russell 15 or Old Forester Birthday bourbon this year!
Mark. Do you do repairs on vintage equipment? I’m located in Wilson North Carolina. I have a Teac C-1 top of the line cassette deck in mint condition. When I put the unit in record mode the erase function does not work. You can hear the previously recorded sound and the new source is not recorded. I’ve had issues with this deck before that keep it from becoming my best deck. When it’s working properly it’s a fantastic machine. Internally it’s all slotted cards and is a work of electronic art. Please let me know. Bruce.
Was the 807 amp you showed in this video before or after your Kegger/Blueglow KT88 project? I built the KT88 amp but converted it to 1625 tubes (12v heater version of 807). I would be interested in the circuit of your 807 amp and the difference between it and the KB KT88 circuit.
The issue with the Tannoys is that they don't have drivers for the top end. What looks like Altecs, with the wave guide compression drivers, they should have the classic Altec/WE sound. I've never heard any in my nearly sixty years. I wonder if they image?
Love the teal theme. Are there any modern speakers that you listen to? I think that, if you get a chance to listen, you'd really... I was in the middle of writing this to recommend some open baffle speakers, and suddenly the Linkowitz speakers appeared...
Happy New Year !!! I love your videos and it's good to see another Altec Model 14 owner, although mine are highly modified with a dbx Driverack as the crossover and Crown D-75 amps in a three-way bi-amped setup. Are you running yours with the stock crossovers? Mine sounded horrible with the originals in place.
The LAST thing I'll say is that I kinda wanted to challenge you to build a high powered - 50-100w - SE Tube Amp using one of the good transmitter tubes. Like the 811A, 845 or one of those types of tubes. Looks like you don't need it with those mint cabs, but the rest of us won't get a hold of those spks. We need power...
10:09 Yuck! Toss it in the bin! Better: convert to a chicken coop/dog house. 14:30 '80s Naim set for the lab bench? That's hardcore. 15:10 What the ... ? Imagine having to ever replace one of these coils! This must be one loudspeaker where the crossover is more expensive than the rest of it. 6:35 Which videos feature these type 50 and type 211/845 Ken Uesugi amps? What could possibly replace a type 50 amp?
Shouldn't this channel be called audio lust? I mean, if I owned these (8:25), I'd find it very hard to prize myself away from them and ever leave the house!

Worlds best patch panel !!
08:30 Those Fairchild turntables look like what we used to use in the military for AFRTS.
Thank you for sharing that was fun and interesting. Happy New Year!
That was a nice glimpse into your many projects. Glad you are enjoying your day job!
Your passion is infectious, Mark.. So many projects, so little time..
Interesting and very cool. Have fun enjoying your various projects and sound systems! 😊

You've got way to much time on your hands Doug to watch 100+ channels. I'm flat out with 10 lol. Peace ✌️
Great preview Mark.

Happy new year Mark !
That must be a ton of fun. And here I thought I was reaching back into time with all my 80s, 90s gear.
Show!!!!! Congratulations from Brazil.
Great stuff to enjoy throughout the years !!! 👍👍👍
Lots of projects....Awesome!

Well Mark, whenever you’re ready to bring a video, I’ll be watching….
Thanks for the walk-about….
Bourbon, Altec, Tubes? That sound familiar and incredible.
8:15 Is the wow and flutter partly due to old, caked rubber linkages and idler wheels?
Was the 807 amp you showed in this video before or after your Kegger/Blueglow KT88 project? I built the KT88 amp but converted it to 1625 tubes (12v heater version of 807). I would be interested in the circuit of your 807 amp and the difference between it and the KB KT88 circuit.
Outstanding!
I see your Fisher equipment on the shelf. Have you played around with that at all?
I bet I have 30 pieces of Fisher gear, some restored, some that needs loving. That piece you saw is a 400CX2 preamp.
The issue with the Tannoys is that they don't have drivers for the top end. What looks like Altecs, with the wave guide compression drivers, they should have the classic Altec/WE sound. I've never heard any in my nearly sixty years. I wonder if they image?
