okay I know I am coming in months late here but the idea of shoe-horning Jean Claude Van Damme into star trek purely because he is Belgium with a similar name made me lol pretty hard. I would watch that show.
In Deana's defence, she can't tell if someone is telling the truth or not if that person believes what they are saying. All she knew is that Clara believed her imaginary friend was real. That being said, you'd think she'd be able to detect that there was an alien presence hanging around Clara and thousands outside of the ship.
@@patrickjones2379What do you mean? They're so useful! Like if you were to yell at her that she's an idiot, she MIGHT be able to figure out that you don't like her very much.
OMG! that my email i sent in! gosh, i thought it got drowned in the other emails y'all get, but i had a feeling you've at least read it based off some things you've said in previous episodes! imagine my shock when an email i forgot i had sent was read out-loud with my name as i was scooping cat shit, lmaooo. but also thanks so much for not reading out my dead-name! i just checked back and sure enough my dead-name was attached to that email, oops. i highly suggest everyone interested in fandom history and star trek fan history to read the zine and to hunt down the other editions! and a zine is a fan-made magazine (basically) that was sent around with fan-works before the internet really got up and running, and was a great way for fans to share fan-art and fan-fiction/poetry/theories etc! thanks so much for reading my email on the pod :)
Of course, thank you for sending it! We always make a point to try to address the writer by whatever name they signed or addressed themselves. :) Hope you have a great holiday season!
This is clearly a bottle episode. The whole solar baby thing is really only a thing because its cheaper to do a special effect than to use practical effects. That's why solar babies were so much more common in the Original Series.
I never had an imaginary friend. But, my family was always trying to convince me that I was a medium, and was always attracting and talking to ghosts... They've always told me they would hear me talking when I was alone. And when they'd ask, I'd describe a little girl who I was talking to that they couldn't see. And when I told them I was an atheist, they brought it up, like their belief in ghosts should prove God is real to me... Weird.
Your early discussion about holodeck food (around the 20:00 mark) is something I've wondered about myself. In the "Elementary Dear Data" episode, Pulaski complimented the tea that Moriarty served her, so presumably she was able to taste and ingest it. So if people are eating/drinking real food there that's providing real nutrients for their body, that means that the holodeck is actually capable of creating real matter that exists beyond the holodeck walls. In that case, why can't Moriarty exist outside of the holodeck? Also, I think the main problem with this episode is that neither of the girls had any direct relation to the main cast. I get that sometimes episodes revolving around side/new characters can work great (Barklay), but usually they have a ton of interaction with the main cast. However, this one felt like they were trying to create a spin-off show starring these two totally-unrelated characters.
We considered it but: 1. It's an absolute megaton of extra work for a podcast most people primarily listen to. We get a much bigger return on our work by doing Shorts than we do finding places to add clips to our podcasts. 2. CBS loves using the DMCA copyright tool, and it takes at least 30 days for a dispute to resolve (technically the plaintiff can concede earlier, but they often have no incentive to do so because the system auto-concedes for them after 30 days). Before our shorts were protected by the new shorts policy, CBS lawyers were manually flagging many of our shorts left and right. It's just not worth it.
@@NewbieStarTrek CBS lawyers are serious dicks. You'd think they'd be happy to have people discussing their product and keeping it alive and relevant, but no. And I'll never forget how they shut down the fan film, Axanar.

The wheels are starting to come off of the conceit that the actual character names are too difficult to remember. You really had to dig to recall that "Broccoli Rabe" was the in-show designation for Reg Barclay.
@TheOnyxSpy Tell me your entire existence is based on jumping into TH-cam comments to, " Well, AK-shoe-uh-lee..." without analogy that was old in 2017. If *YOU" had actually listened, you'd know that at the 22:10 mark, the gang, on mentioning Barclay, has to reach to remember the alternate name. Just. Like. I. Wrote. In. My. Original. Comment. I'm a retired disabled American man in my 50s who grew up watching TOS in first-run syndication. You're not going to out-Trek nerd me.

Yes, they could have not made it
They did something similar in Strange New Worlds which I thought was WAY better than this episode. But we'll get there eventually (hopefully)

Can't wait for you to see Worf and Alexander's holodeck adventure.
Do I watch the ad-free version AND the regular ad version? Darn right I do!
Wow!
I’m so glad Brannon Braga has been brought to Ricardo’s attention so we can have years upon years of Ricardo saying EVERYTHING except “Brannon Braga”

Just watched the trailer for solar babies. I'm gonna need to watch that AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. thank you
Just saw this last night, the invisible friend actress was really talented at the horror style acting, particularly with her voice.

I miss the episodes you put on TH-cam where you put up specific clips from an episode and use them as a form of context.
That ended up being pretty disruptive to the flow of our discussion, so we stopped pulling specific clips unless they were extremely interesting.

I guess the algorithm doesn't like close-ups of creepy girls, lol
I always wonder what happened to the actress that Played the Little girl. I know she Did the Movie Hedi but then disappeared from Hollywood.

The only way I would defend this episode is that it has a kind if... naff season 1 charm to it. But that's about it.

Do Marvin and Sara discuss the episodes privately before the podcast? Based on the questions, I'd say no.
We save it for the pod!
did u guys ever write a flat stanley?
Asian people always have trouble with names like that
Love the show, gang!
MARVIN was your dad one of the Roof Koreans???!
Haha no, my dad went home ASAP.

Don't worry; we don't love every episode 😅.
Finally First 😊
Dang, only caught second place
