- Many people ask me my personal opinion on trial difficulty for games.
If the scale was 1 out 10 in difficulty
MVC3 - 3
SSF4 - 4
3rd Strike - 5
UMVC3 - 5
Blazblue - 9
KOF 13 - 10
Mini blog on Leona trials
Ash and Leona are by far the most difficult trials in KOF XIII.
Both are charge based characters. You need to absolutely master
charge buffering before even attempting to complete either trial.
(Charge)D-U+P xx (Charge)B-F+K is very common in almost every trial.
To buffer this, input (Charge)DB-UB+P xx F+K
This must be second nature in the later trials.
Her super (Air)QCF-HCB+P is usually required to be TK'd for trials.
Input it as QCF-HCB-UB+P
Trial 3
The trick to this one is whiffing the S.LP into (Charge)D-U+PP.
Leona cannot cancel her C.LK this is why they make you do it
this way.
(Charge)Down - Neutral S.LP ~ U+PP
Trial 4
You can easily cheat on this one by simply jumping in and performing it.
If you want to do it legit you simply just need raw speed, no shortcut
needed.
Trial 5
You can easily cheat on this one too. All you have to do it S.HK and charge
during the 2 hits, more than enough time to complete the combo during the
animation of the S.HK
To do this legit. The motion I used was
(Charge)DB - Neutral B+HK ~ UB+P xx F+HK
Trial 7
The start of this combo is tricky. First you need to TK QCB+PP. Then you must
walk slightly forward before doing (Charge)B-F+PP. To do this you must hold
forward and delay pressing PP by half a second. If you do not do it this way
they will be out of range to continue the combo.
You must input (Charge)B-F+P afterwards the second Leona recovers, be very quick.
After QCB+KK wait for the opponent to fall a little bit, keep him slightly low
other wise the next QCB+KK will whiff.
Trial 8
This is where the fun begins.
The trick to mastering this loop is to understand when to HD Cancel and when to
simply link. The combo has just enough gauge to complete. If you HD cancel something
you were not supposed to then you will fail.
HD Cancel everything all the way up to the 3rd (Charge)B-F+HK. Your hands must be fast.
Your hands basically draw a triangle that is rotated 90 degrees clockwise. Charge as
soon as possible.
Then (Charge)D-U+P must be linked everytime from this point forward.
The super is linked at the end. If the super whiffs, then you did it too slowly.
Trial 9
After QCB+KK you must jump as high as possible into super. You cannot tk it because you need
the opponent high to continue.
I used the motion QCF-UF (delay) HCB+PP to time this right.
From this point on after each (Charge)B-F+K you must Link the (Charge)D-U+P. This is done in a
1-2 timing motion, listen to my hands.
Trial 10
For each (Charge)D-U+P use the LP version as you recover faster.
The goal here is to keep the opponent as high as possible. To do this you need to execute each
action the second you recover. Also make sure you cancel (Charge)DB-UB+P xx F+K as fast as you
can.
The (Charge)B-F+LK must be linked into.
The (Charge)D-U-P must be linked after as well.
Delay the TK super at the end just slightly so the opponent is really low to the ground. If you do it too high the NEO MAX will whiff.

After completing her trials, I can officialy say that Ash's trials are, by far, THE hardest trials in the game, with Leona's being second (Although Sans Culotte really takes it to a whole new level).
Smart advice: Learn to do every part of the trial before you try to pull it off all in one go.. (as obvious it might sound, I bet theres many out there who try to complete these in one go and get frustrated)
Love the ace of spades at the end.
Charge db -> charge up-back + p -> fwd + k -> charge db
The trick is going from the charge up-back to forward + kick then back to charging down-back in a smooth motion.

For trial 7 you can also kara cancel her crouch C when inputtin B-F+PP. That way you don't have to worry about walking forward.

I would really like to see some great matches, I just have a craving fro them after watching the SoCal Regionals 2011 all 3 hours worth of video with commentary great stuff. If now can you or anyone else direct me to some tournament videos particularly with commentary? It was great listening to the banter and crowds cheering and such.

Seem more impressive than it really is? Last time I checked, finishing all KoF trials was pretty damn impressive. Of course, if it's not very tasking we'd all love to see your take on all these trials.
Leona can become simple to use if you understand the charge method. it took me a half hour to learn the charge method especially after figuring out how to cancel them together so now she comes natural to me but in the iOS and mobile version its kinda hard unless u turn off simple moves

BTW, you can cheat trial 8 by doing everything in the corner. In fact I did it on the left corner just to get some other-side practice. Simply juggle Takuma by repeatedly HD canceling the Up-slash into the Side-slash attack, then linking the next Up-slash. Since you're doing less HD cancels in this combo, you'll have more than enough gauge to fit in another rep I think! =P
With leftover gauge, I super-cancelled the last slash
I wanted to main Leona when the game came out first, but i quaicly gave up on that, mainly bcause i cannot stand playing charge characters. Shame really. Well done for completing all of them!

The system is kinda the same as every 2d fighting game. you should learn about "links" you have 1 frame per second for execute each skill, each command you give you have less then a second to save the command to execute a fallow up combo. ill give you and example:
At the start of the 5th trial, you have to perfomance a fallow up on the start, the first "special" move that you require to hold down, and then up and LP/HP to do it, you have to make a normal "hit" first in the mid of that command (before you push up you have to hit HK) and then you hit up+LP/HP canceling the animation of the close HK.
There you have it, is basically the same for everything, for perform combos you need to often rely on "cancel animations"
Hope it helps, I'm a noob on this game too, and even tho I understand the mechanics, is still hard to pull it off (thats why I'm here lol)
It's easier to this this because he get the timing more pronounced because you can hear and feel the timing. Which is harder to do with tighter stick control and softer button presses.

Can you explain how you performed Trial 5 without using the HK animation to charge? I looked in the description, but I couldn't seem to perform the input you described. I took your explanation to mean:
Charge DB, release directions into a neutral state, input B and HK, then input UB+P into F+K
I had a few problems doing this. I would get a back dash when I tried to input B+HK since I had just been holding the DB charge and the game held onto my inputs. I tried waiting longer to avoid this, but then I lost my charge.
Is this just a timing issue (ie git gud scrub), or have I misunderstood your explanation? If it is a timing issue, do you have any tips to help me understand how to get it right?
Sounds like you're are doing it too slowly. If you watch my hands I do not pause at all. DB (charge) ~ N.B+HK ~ UB+HP. All in one continuous motion. Obviously you do a B+HK to maintain the charge. Look at your own hands while doing it. Maybe practice it with 2 hits then transition to the legit way. You're trying to do one of the hardest trial sets so it might take some time. Keep me updated.
I swear Leona trials are fucking hard as hell in the ios version. I am stuck with trail 4

try going from db to ub instead of d to u for the moon slasher, then push f for grand saber and repeat, that should do the trick :)
Is there any particular reason why you feel blazblue is a 9?
I myself keep getting jammed on everyone's trial 14 but I figured it was moreso because I'm no execution monster.
Great job completing them i sill think Maxima #10 is hardest XD the timing on the hyper cancels are so weird :(
I've heard that Leona is the only Medium tier character in XIII, would the difficulty of her trials be part of that? ;]
Or maybe that's just how he regularly hits the buttons and moves the joystick. By exaggerating joystick motions are you implying more complex inputs than given or just speed? Regardless, these are very difficult trials.

Check youtube for your trial videos, sees leona's moveset for each trial.

Took me 20minutes to get Andy's Trial 3 down..and not even consistently so i kept at it. Its not like i suck at execution too, i am at least decent.
