I see no relation between this sort of modern impasto paint handling and that of top past masters. I call this sort of thick unrefined manner a rather comical illustrative pastiche in its glopping on of opaque pasty paint, as opposed to the far more sensitive and less self-indulgent application practiced by the masters.
