- Step back in time with the Heber Valley Railroad's CMO and steam railroading genius Mike Manwiller, who switches up the whistles from his collection and does run-bys with the #618 temporarily renumbered to its original Oregon Short Line OSL #1068. Rare and historic, you can hear what sounds like HVRR #75's whistle on the HVRR #1068! It is the low fog horn, so lots of fun, enjoy!
Wonderful video of Union Pacific 618 back in 2008.
Great footage and editing, Gib! 618’s regular “baby whistle” had problems with its steam valve, so it wore two others”foreign” whistles during this photo-freight outing.
Many thanks Craig! People love those whistles! At the end of this video does it sound like the whistles they use at Promontory? Exciting to see so many people enjoying the Heber Valley Railroad.
The “hooter” whistle at the end of the video belongs to Mike Manwiller. I believe it is a Norfolk & Western whistle, typically used on N&W freight engines.
I love that Northern Pacific wood boxcar!
Gets better with age. I found these for you. imgur.com/a/NcwnhC1
A quite note, this is not the whistle from 75. 75 has a Flat Top Hancock 3, while the whistle in this footage is a Steptop Hancock 3. Either way, this and all of the other new footage you've posted is wonderful, and I can't wait for more!
Great info Love the input.
Nice Video, I sure wish they would put #618 back together.
Many thanks! Until then, we have this and I shot 618's last run...
@@gib-berry Will you be uploading it? I'd certainly love to see it!
@@RocketStephen618 Excellent! Ill fly it up soon! Thank you for the input.

@gib-berry Oh my goodness!! Thank you for all of these, it's wonderful to be able to have more footage!!
This is one amazing video! I really do appreciate the look of 618 when it was under the OSL. Very classy. Also, may I add my input for the deep tone whistle. From the looks of it, its Hancock Step-Top Long Bell 3 Chime, it almost sounds to me it could've come off of one of Union Pacific's Big Boy or even a challenger. Either way, it sounds wonderful! Do we have any extra information on Mr. Manwiller's whistle collection??
Great input so appreciated. He may chime in, probably has some very interesting bells and whistles. I am comparing 618 (1068) at 1:00 in this video to #75 on the same curve on this video th-cam.com/video/pjj_S_8pdi8/w-d-xo.html and they do sound different but perhaps same intonation like a D and B flat? How can anyone tell for sure?

One of the worst looks for 618
I prefer the middle light to be in the middle of the smokebox
