      hmm... Jesus prayed to God to NOT take us out of our normal routines....John 17:15.... in fact, very literally, the commandment of Jesus was to make disciples as you are going about _your normal routines_ Πορευθέντες (Matt 28:19) and Paul encourages us to take *_EVERY THOUGHT_* captive to the obedience of Jesus Christ (2Cor 10:5) as Jesus says if continue in my WORD *_THEN_* you are my disciple indeed (John 8:31)... seems to me that if you have to shift gears just to *_enter_* the building, you are not living as a disciple of Jesus on the _OUTSIDE_ of that building!

    In Greek churches due to many people attending, some times when you light a candle, if the care-taker of the church passes nearby, might take it away immediately in order to open room for the others. A bit harsh, but anyway. hehe!

    I was once told that candles lit in the narthex were also an echo of very early times when Christians would lit candles in front of the catacombs to inform the priest how much bread was needed for communion. Can anyone confirm this?

    Perhaps "an offering made by fire to the Lord" can also be seen in lighting candles -- to represent our prayers being sent to God by the sacrifice of the candle and, by the rising smoke therefrom (Leviticus 23; Acts 21:26; Matthew 9:20-22 KJV).

    Thank you for this informative video! My husband’s parents (Greek Orthodox) are now passed, and I would like to honor them in our home. Is there a best way to do this, and if so, what kind of candle is lit in the home to do this? We have a picture of them on the wall currently. Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏🕯

    • @chriskourliourod1651
      @chriskourliourod1651 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best way I can answer this is to just pray for them. Their pictures aren’t icons, and all focus must be primarily on our Lord.

    • @andflou

      The loafs of bread in the begining of the video are offered from the believers to church with the names of people that we want the priest to pray for their salvation written in a note. You can ask which bakery will make you that special loaf of bread it is called "prosforo". Then give it to the church with their christian name in a note.

    Can you provide the purpose of the candles in other Orthodox jurisdictions.? It seems you do not realize that Orthodoxy exists outside of the Greek communities.

      We speak about other Orthodox communities often but since this is specifically a Greek Orthodox channel, that is where our primary focus is. Father will answer your question in tonight's Orthodoxy Questions Answered.

      Of cource it is but every nation has it's own traditions. As the priest said in 1:40 in Greece we have the bread, the wine and the olive oil and in other traditions, probably Russians, also have a container of wheat.
