It took 10 years for my diagnosis. They come twice a year 6-8 week at a time (season changes). I treated my Clusters as migraines, sinus issues, I even had teeth removed before I was properly diagnosed. I don’t with this upon my worst enemy. Just a note. I had these same headaches as a child had a few MRIs then they went away until I was 20. No pharmaceutical drug works for me.

Unless you have this, you have absolutely nothing to complain about.

As someone who has been a frequent migraine sufferer most of my life and also someone who as witnessed another person experiencing a cluster headache ... I have so, so, so much sympathy for people who get cluster headaches. Even though I feel like it's the end of the world when I have migraines, I am so grateful I don't get cluster headaches. It looks like the worst thing in the world like it appears to make childbirth look like a walk in the park. It really stinks that they even exist.

Exactly what I had April-July 2013. Behind one eye around the orbits and around the head felt like someone was stabbing me with an electrified dagger from the inside of my head and felt weakness and a complete lack of control, my reaction was to just run up and down the rooms of the house and dig my thumb nail into the flesh of my index finger (as a sort of distraction from the large more intensive pain of the cluster headache attack). The attacks lasted around 45 minutes, I had 9 of them ... thankfully I haven't had any since. Some doctors around the London area I must say were simply awful in dealing with this, some were trying to make out that the pain was imagined or due to stress... but don't worry I put in official complaints towards them, the NHS is definitely full of many disillusioned and arrogant incompetents.

Cluster headache causes severe, usually unilateral, pain felt in the region of the eye and forehead associated with lacrimation, conjunctival injection and occasionally transient Horner's syndrome.
Attacks are more common at night, often waking sufferers at the onset of REM sleep.
Oxygen and triptans may arrest attacks.
Prophylaxis with propranolol, pizotifen, and especially verapamil may prevent further episodes

I get cluster headaches and they have just come back after about 3 years, I believe they returned because I wasn't getting enough sleep and stressing out too much, the only good thing is the when the pain goes, a fantastic feeling of relief. I'm in the UK and I find Solpadeine Plus soluble tablets are the best way to kill the pain quickly, but you have to take them as soon as you start to feel it, I carry the tablets and water with me everywhere, also watch your diet and drink plenty of water.

You guys, I've not had this or know anyone who does, but I see this as a problem and needs to be dealt with immediately. Right now I'm 20, and I'll contribute my life and 150 IQ to solving this

Many sufferers, including one I know personally, have been getting amazing relief and often complete remission by taking low doses of psilocybin or LSD (threshold doses that do NOT produce hallucinations). Unfortunately, they're both illegal, controlled substances (but in the case of Psilocybin mushrooms, they grow wild in almost every country on earth). If I suffered, I would personally NOT wait for the law to catch up and would seek that relief. I guess that's a personal choice, though.

I'm glad to see the recommendations on the oxygen use as being up in the 8-10 range, as less does nothing & most doctors are afraid to prescribe even 3-4 lpm, for fear of the side effects. Clusters need high dose oxygen in onset, I do this for 2-5 min. then I reduce lpm to around 3-5 for another couple mins., & that usually works if done immediately.

I'm not sure if mine is cluster or not.I get painful headaches that effect my eye, cheekbone and one side of my head, I can't do anything because its annoying, but it doesn't make me suicidal or make me scream and fall over in pain.

I have been suffering from cluster headaches since my final year of university (I am 38 now). Even though i explained the periodic symptoms and the cluster episodes I was told it was migraine and I've been taking migraine medication with little success. Thanks to a podcast episode of "How migraines works" I realized what I had been suffering was not migraines but Cluster Headaches! Now hopefully I can find alternate medication that may actually work!
Thanks everyone for your remedy suggestions

i'm 24 and just got this. i can't drink alcohol anymore either unless i want my eye and side of head to feel like its going to explode for a week straight, but I always have a dull ache in my eye. it sucks. mine feels like someone is pumping my eye with air like a balloon to the point where it can't handle anymore air and it wants to explode. mainly my eye but some of my temple too and sometimes the back of my head.

I wasn't sure about the condition i'm suffering.. But i was sure that the symptoms of cluster headache is what I've experienced 2 yrs ago when i was 13 years of age. a sophomore.. It wasn't that bad.. but i felt like a barbecue stick was at my right eye.. and its like being pulled and pushed again and again.. it lasted about half a day. It started when i woke up. I told you i wasn't that bad..compare to the other person who experience cluster headache. so i can still do my studies...

I suffer from this episodically. It's always the right side. Nothing works. My doctor finally has giving my a drug that renders me unconscious or about 2 hours. I'm very groggy after but I don't care. No one else around me has them or even knows someone who has them so no one I know understands the pain. It sucks. I would give anything to not have another attack.

I'm 14 and a male and i get these really bad headaches that are always on either my left or right eye (not like i have a 3rd eye i just wanted to clarify lol) and its is really bad pain but its more like a needle stabbing at my eye (around the upper lid of it) and it is random. i usually get like 3 a month or non for 2 and then i got them again. I have learned to just stick it out but i wasn't sure if what i have is actually "cluster headaches". Could maybe someone clarify this for me? Thanks

I've run the full course of treatments sans surgery in the last 22 years of my bouts, last January-April 2013 was the worst ever, averaging 4 a day, but mine start 1 a day/night for about 4-5 days, then keep building in # & intensity. until 13-15 per day, that's when I want to die. Current medicine only uses pills & shots, & they don't help much. I have decided to try mushrooms, 5 of the people I know with the problem have used them, & ALL have reduced/eliminated them. O/W, I won't last

@Telefunken47 That's why they're call the suicide headache. I was finally diagnosed 2 months ago and now I'm trying different abortive drugs. Thankfully I'm not chronic. I get about 2-3 a week right now but it has been higher.

@MartenThuren as much sympathy I have for clusterheads, what you just said is extremely selfish.
So, just because there is SOMEONE out there, who has it worse than me, I'm not allowed to complain about things that I experience as bad? In that case, nobody would ever complain. Ever.
